Greyish green
Teal, blue, green... it depends. Van is the only one who knows her real hair colour (it's dark blonde)
Kiara keeps her hair long, and naturally it is quite straight, but she has it either loose and wavy or braided most of the time. It’s always dyed, and if her roots are showing she’s usually wearing a hat or beanie
Kiara has a handful of tattoos. Bird on a branch on her upper left arm, 3 daisies on her lower left arm, half moon on her right arm, blue rose and clock with flowers on her right leg, 'smile a little smile for me' on her right arm
Kiara gets all of her clothes at thrift stores, and has a pretty mixed style. It’s always put together with a lot of thought, and her favourite accessory is her black, wide-brimmed hat. She likes floral print, stripes, dots, lace… anything to add a little life.

Scotland
Snow Haven, Alaska
Kiara Devine was born in Scotland in October, 1996. Less than an hour later, her mother died from complications during the birth, and just like that, Scott’s life was turned upside down. Suddenly, he was a single father. When he managed to pull through that, it was for the sake - and love - of his deceased wife, and not for any particular bond he had made with his newborn daughter, though he did vow to be a good father for her. And he was. He worked hard for her, to take care of her, and a bond slowly formed.
Scott owned an online business, which grew steadily over the years and was soon more than a solid income for the small household. It was soon no issue putting aside money for any kind of education his daughter might want in the future.
In 2000, the two of them moved to Snow Haven, Alaska. Scott was trying to get as far from Scotland and memories as possible, and it wasn’t like he was tied to a specific location work-wise. Today, Kiara only has vague memories of the place she spent the first four years of her childhood, and doesn’t consider herself particularly Scottish.
When Kiara was 8, her father brought home a woman who would become wife and mother in the small home less than a year later. With her she brought two children from a previous marriage, a set of twins a few years older than Kiara. All of a sudden, the small home was not so small anymore, and they moved one again, though this time just to a bigger house, still within Snow Haven.
This was also the year Scott bought the rescue cat, Cleo, for his daughter - perhaps as an apology for the stressful time and the sudden changes. Everything was good in the beginning though, once it all started settling down. It was good for almost two years, before everything started falling apart. Again.
Scott, unbeknownst to the rest of the family, had started drinking and gambling, and in 2002 he was arrested for assaulting and nearly killing a man at a local pub, over a lost card game. His business started suffering on top of that, and he has been in and out of jail since then, currently serving time for fraud and embezzlement.
Ophélie, who did not marry the man she thought she had, or the comfort of his money, has grown bitter and resentful, and over the years she has found many new and creative ways to take it out on Kiara, and Kiara has a hard time seeing herself getting out of there. The twins both moved out a few years ago, and she is now stuck at home taking care of her stepmother, who has grown increasingly ill - or at least unstable - over the last decade. Almost every single paycheck is snatched by the woman, with a million different excuses.
And Kiara is continuously convinced (guilt-tripped) by both her stepmother and father to keep playing this game.
There are two things keeping Kiara’s head above water: her job at the Alpine Diner, and her very best and very oldest friend, Van -- though in truth, without Van, even the diner wouldn’t be enough. They have known each other since they were very young, and he’s the most important thing in her world. Because she doesn’t know what she would do if something happened to their friendship, she doesn’t dare tell him that she’s been in love with him for years.
