Razan grew up in Layla, a small fishing village in the middle of the human territory. What most people don't realize is that these towns along the inner coast are constantly butting up against folk who live in the water; not just the more mundane races such as tritons and sea elves, but also fey races, those from the elemental plane of water, and others.

Layla was quiet and peaceful for a long time, until an expanding colony of tortles nearby became a threat. They sent Razan to investigate, his family having almost no real standing in the community and so his loss being of no significance if things went south.

Razan, however, had no real intention of spying on the tortles or doing whatever the heads of his village wanted. He ran when given the chance, heading north first to Bellmore and later to Tavnoin where The Sovereign Galen found him. Like some others, his first transformation wasn't as bad as it could have been and he saw the Sovereign Galen as his savior.

He was happy to serve the one who probably saved his life until Zaela and her adventuring party rescued all the mystics and cured them of the curse. When Zaela took up the mantle of the Sovereign the first thing Razan did was ask to serve her. He wasn't blind to what the Sovereign Galen had done, but like some of the other mystics he knew no other life and wouldn't know what to do with himself otherwise. Thankfully Zaela was more than happy to keep those who wanted to stay, so Razan continues to serve under her.
