If anywhere the child of a celestial should be born, it would be The Mirrored Slopes. So many with magic find themselves congregating there, and as such the air is always heavy with that power.
Karima is a rarity by birth, made all the rarer by his powers as a mystic. Though those were powers he didn't know he had until he began adventuring; the party he traveled with learned quickly to listen to the guidance of his dreams, taking jobs he recommenced and finding good fortune while avoiding jobs he warned them of and hearing later of the disaster befalling others who had no such warning.
By some circumstance, possibly his celestial blood, Karima was spared the transformations that befell others. This lack of becoming a beast is why he escaped the eye of The Sovereign Galen for so long, but it couldn't last forever. Sometimes the party had to take a chance on jobs where Karima had not seen good or ill surrounding anything in particular, and on one such mission the creature they faced was simply too powerful for them. Karima was the only survivor, and when he returned he found agents of the Sovereign Galen waiting for him as the mystics already in his control had seen the slaughter and come to try to warn them - not for altruistic reasons, though, as they had also seen Karima as one of their own and hoped to save him from death so he could join their ranks.
Blaming himself for not being able to see the danger that had led to the death of his friends Karima had nowhere else to go and little option anyway, since disobeying the Sovereign Galen was never a smart move. He joined them, always missing the life of an adventurer and wishing he could return.
When Zaela and her party rescued the other mystics from their curse even though he saw his chance Karima felt it would be a betrayal to the rest of the group if he left. He missed adventuring but had found brothers among the other mystics, so he stayed. When Zaela took over the mantle of Sovereign, however, Atem knew better than anyone that Karima would be happier on the roads.
The mystics made it clear that they'd miss him, but if he wanted to go they would be happy for him as long as he was happy. So Karima took off, finding another group and determined not to make the same mistakes again while knowing what he always had a home to go back to.
