Atiel was born in Alari long after the defeat of Ugul’nst-vaer, but she grew up around its towering form suspended over the city. But she grew tired of the life of the drow; enslaving others, constantly vying for power, every move she made scrutinized to see if she would be fit to eventually rule in some way or watched for weaknesses so rivals could eliminate her. All she wanted was to study in peace, so eventually she made her way to the surface and found Paul Clemond.

Seeing in her the potential to become something great, the wizard agreed to take her on as one of his apprentices. Since then Atiel took a particular interested in the school of necromancy and learning all of its secrets, both for her own benefit and to hopefully help in the event the drow of Alari are successful in their revival of the monstrosity that once terrorized them.
