He/Him

He was the last of three kids born to Abigail and Jacob Young, and he was kind of a surprise.

6'4".
chestnut brown
shaved at the sides and back, kind of a mop up top though. his hair isn't curly or wavy, just straight. He likes it longer up top, to the point it hangs partially in his face, for reasons only he knows.
scruffy. by the time we hit the white room, he's definitely got a full beard that could be described as scraggly.
according to Yarrow, they are deep pools of blue.
White as hell, as far as he's aware. He presumes through what his parents told him that his ancestry is Irish and Italian but he's never been too sure and he has little desire to use a genetic ancestry service to find out.
Olive? Somewhere between white and tan.
Tall, built sinewy and lithe. Ran cross country in High school and still tries to keep up with running. He does try to keep himself in shape, but he'll be the first to admit he skips the gym a bit more in winter.
He has a faint scar across the top of his nose from an accident involving a sliding glass door when he was younger, it runs diagonally from top left to right. (He ran into the glass pane and it shattered).
He has scars on his left arm from surgery to fix a broken arm in high school.
Usually in skinny jeans, a tee-shirt and flannel, Nate doesn't usually dress to impress, but when he does, he likes bright colors in his tops, and pants black like his soul.
In regards to the events of the story, Nate's in dark skinny jeans, Doc Martens, a dark tee-shirt and a flannel button up, under a heavier jacket.
Runs his hand through his hair when irritated or nervous, a little fidgety when he can't find something to do with his hands - he has a fidget cube he never uses because he forgets it exists. He cracks his knuckles, taps his fingers on tables and if given a clicky pen, would drive people mad with the constant clicking. He bounces his leg when sitting and nervous or bored.
For purposes of the story, he really just wants to live, but also, he's trying to find Yarrow, who he's been separated from. Outside of the story, he's trying to survive an unkind world, that, despite being in some ways better than our own, still exploits the working poor.
Nate has a hard time with image recall (aphasia), so he has a rough time describing objects and people from memory, but he can remember a conversation like it happened five minutes ago.
Nathan is also extremely stubborn when he wants to be, to the point that Yarrow's stated that he 'hates being wrong'. It's not that he hates being wrong, he just gets stuck in his own worldview.
He's also too nice for his own good, a flaw that Yarrow points out almost immediately.
He can be very easily annoyed depending on his mood, and while he tries not to snap off at the mouth, he can't always control it.
Nathan is fairly no-nonsense. He hates conspiracies. He tries to keep himself as grounded by logic as he can, and he acts as almost the perfect foil to Yarrow's anxiety fueled paranoia.
While he has difficulty with visual recall, he's very good with mechanical recall. Something he's done once he can replicate fairly easily, which makes computer/tech repair a snap for him.
He's been known to fiddle with guitars on rare occasions, but that's a talent he kind of keeps in his back pocket.
He tries to go on a run at least once a day, either first thing in the morning or late into the evening.
He'll go hiking if Yarrow drags him along with them, even though it's something he also enjoys doing on his own. He just likes having a friend with him.
Building and rebuilding computers started as a hobby and then became a job. He's not mad about it.
ENTP
Aphasia.
He's charismatic when he needs to be, stubborn when the situation calls for it, and literally no one would accuse him of being a coward.
Nate is aromantic and bisexual.
Nate's usually soft-spoken and genial, but through the course of the story, his specific voice and speech patterns change with trauma. He becomes a little rough around the edges, prone to emotional outbursts, but he tries to remain as level-headed as he can.
Nate enjoys the jazz cabbage on occasion, but his biggest vice is alcohol. He's mostly given it up by the time the story begins, although by the end of it, he's weighing the pros and cons of taking up drinking again.
"I hate that you know me this well. This is bullying."
"This is a whole lot of circumstantial nothing, Yarrow. You have bitten into a nothing burger expecting to find… something."

Agnostic. Whatever's out there is out there and he wants no part of whatever "Divine Plan" there might be for him.
He was raised Roman Catholic by his parents and removed himself from the religion by the time he graduated high school because he couldn't stand the people, the rules or the catechism. He hated the aura of guilt that came with going to church and it's still something he struggles with getting himself away from.
Left. He hates political arguments however, as from his perspective, most of the right argue from emotion and that kind of debate isn't worth it.
Grad student in engineering and an IT specialist that works on cleaning/maintaining computers, laptops, tablets, gaming consoles and cell phones.
He'll tell you it's yellow.
In reality, it's red - (red is the color of Yarrow's hair, and it's that specific shade that made him really start to love the color).
He'll eat anything (having referred to himself as a human trash compactor in prior conversations with Yarrow) but if given the choice between, for example, curry and a burger, he's gonna choose the burger almost every time just because it's familiar.
If given a choice for a last meal, it'd be his mom's shepherd's pie.
His dad's class ring. It's the last thing he has of his dad's and he wears it on a chain around his neck if it's not on his finger, and if it's not on that chain, it's in his pocket.
He's at least a little partial to things that can make a skull crack like a melon, but that's because he's realized guns draw too much attention.
Works as an independent IT specialist in repairing, cleaning and reprogramming and general upkeep of computers and other miscellaneous tech.
Nathan has had feelings for Yarrow practically since the moment they met. He just never knew how to parse them. He knows Yarrow is his person. He'd shift the moon and stars for them if it meant they would be happy. Yarrow is the one person he feels safe enough to be weird with.
The pair speak each other's language almost fluently, even if they can't resist poking fun at the other. Underneath the joking, they both genuinely care for the other's well-being and would put aside their own in order to make sure the other was okay.
Romance and intimacy with Yarrow has never been on Nate's radar. It's never crossed his mind to admit to them just how much he cares for them or to try for an intimate relationship, particularly knowing how Yarrow feels about love.
