At the end, Micah had to leave in order to save himself. It left him depressed for a while, but he's doing pretty okay these days.
His father is passed on while his mother lives in senior housing. He visits her every week or at least every other week unless he's busy.
He doesn't have any siblings or children.

Atheist
He cares about all his students, but a student that's never quite left his mind is one by the name of Lena, a troubled girl who didn't care about school or even her life. He tried to get her to care, even helped her get a bipolar diagnosis but after an incident that left Lena expelled, he hadn't seen much of her since.
However, as a last ditch effort to get some kind of adult support in Lena's life, he tracks down family members, first finding out that Lena had run away from the foster home she was staying at, living on her own all this time. He avoids calling the teen's mother, upon learning from the foster parents that the woman was a neglectful alcoholic, and instead tracks down Lena's grandmother, informing her of everything.
He gets on pretty well with his co-workers, and has friends outside of work from different walks of life. His students may drive him mad but he cares for them all the same.
