Braces, round eyes, pointy chin, a thin frame and a face that always looks naturally upset or thoughtful.
Fact(s):
He doesn't ever smile or laugh in public, even if he wants to, in fear of attracting too much attention to himself.
Samuel's relationship with his parents is a troubled one. They don't usually give him the emotional support or love he needs.
In all of his years of solitude, he's taken quite an interest of reading, going to the local library almost every day.
Mannerisms:
No particular emotions: His posture is often hunched and he fiddles with his hands frequently, he won't look anyone straight in the eyes and often looks as though he's upset or concentrating. For this reason people don't usually approach him, assuming that he's a stuck up brat or just plain disagreeable.
Happy: Unless Samuel's by himself or with someone he knows and is close to, he won't express any feelings of joy or cheerfulness. He does this to avoid having any attention being brought to him, even though doing this attracts more attention than just relaxing would. Though sometimes he can't help himself, when he does smile or laugh, you'll find that he has an endearing little giggle, but he'll often turn away, hiding his face, almost as if he's ashamed of showing others his happiness.
Angry: Samuel's not one to stand up for himself, even if he could speak out on his behalf, he usually wouldn't. His anxiety would get the better of him. Instead of lashing out, he'll commonly clench his teeth, tighten his fists, squeeze his arm, etc...
Sad: He'll often hold back his tears and have a stern expression on his face. Though even if he's willing to open up, his tears will fall without a single sound.
Frightened: If something frightens him he'll usually act like a deer in headlights, all of the possible outcomes of the situation at hand whirr through his mind, often leaving him in a daze.
To get over his difficulty is something Samuel's wanted for a long time, he often grows angry, blaming himself for not being able to speak like every other "normal" kid.
Distanced, overly serious and finds it hard to trust others.
Samuel has the ability to see right through people. Upon first meeting a person he'll be able to figure out their whole persona just by the way they walk, speak and act. It's almost become a past time of his.
He's able to do this from years of practice of observing them quietly.
Reading, people watching and building model cars, planes, etc...
Samuel's always been the quiet kid, the boy in the back of the class, a loner. But it's when he's away from others' prying eyes and ears that he truly blossoms as a human being.
He's a sweet person, the kind of goes out, after a rain storm to help the earth worms back into the soft soil. The kind of person who spends their afternoons helping the librarian reorganize the scattered books, and the kind of person who sets out a platter of kibbles for the stray cats in the summer.
Selective Mutism and Social Anxiety.
March 2
Samuel has gone to public school his whole life.
Back when he was a small child, he found adults and other children frightening, when an older person his mother or father knew came up to them, they would gush on and on about how "cute" he was. All the while Samuel would be hiding himself behind his parents in fear.
Samuel's parents have always been at least somewhat loving towards him, though... ever since he started going to school, his teachers have told his parents that there's something wrong with him time and time again (Him not talking in class, for example.). His grades had never been good, but his parents reacted negatively towards this news, thinking that their son was being lazy or just slacking off. This, of course caused his self esteem a lot of harm, if someone's own parents don't approve of them, how does one approve of themselves? Especially if that person fears the disappointment of others.
