Melissa is a timid, reserved, but pleasant and kind young woman. She tends to be the wallflower in social situations. Her friends describe her as someone who lights up the room when she walks in and a good shoulder to cry on.

Melissa is motivated by her empathy. She hates seeing people in pain and wants to take care of their problems. She is also motivated by Holden, whom she tries her best to shelter from all the things she went through.

Melissa tends to be a bit of a pushover in life, which has lead to problems in her relationship with her family and friends. She tends to be closed off to strangers and it may take a while to warm up to them. She finds it hard to open up about her own emotions, though this doesn't seem to be the case when she's around Mark.

Melissa is a talented seamstress. She made her own prom dress.

Melissa was born to Jina and Tom Morrow in Norfolk, Virginia. When she was four, her mother died giving birth to her brother Holden. Her family moved to Georgia shortly after Jina's death. Melissa's relationship with her older brother Jay deteriorated after the move. When she was fourteen, her father started dating a woman that would secretly belittle Melissa behind his back. When she was sixteen, she was kidnapped after running out of the house following an argument with her father's girlfriend.
