instead of heaven or hell, when you die you find your self in the room of a six-year-old… then you realize, you are their imaginary friend.
"Um… Hello~." I say.
There's a small gasp, as an adorable little boy runs up to me. "Melly~!" The small child before me shouts happily, giggling.
"Y-yeah, Melly, that's um. That's me!" I try to smile but I'm sure it looks much more like a grimace than a smile. The little boy doesn't seem to care, though, as he hugs me tightly, smiling brighter than the sun. "Melly!"
"So, what are we gonna do today, Melly?! Color?! Ooh~! Or pway Pwaydough?!" He exclaims, jumping up and down happily. "Or, we can pway stuffies! I know you love doing that!" He runs over to his bed and pulls a silver colored bear down from it, bringing it back over to me. "I'll even let you be Mr. Teddy!"
"well um, whatever you want to do" i look quickly around the room, seeing a small backpack with the name Conner on it, "Conner." He beamed at me, showing off a small gap between his two front teeth. "Yaaaaaay!" before turning to his bed and jumping up and down excitably.
"Here, hold Mr. Teddy!" he says excitedly and shoves it into my hands. I hold it timidly and look at it closely. One of its ears is spilling stuffing and a button eye is missing. I walk over to his bed and sit down on it and he pulls out a different stuffed animal from his bed. Its a girl with blonde yarn hair and green eyes that look scribbled on with crayon. It looks familiar and suddenly I realize it looks like me. Conner makes it dance over to mine.
"Hewwo, who are you?" he says in a funky voice and giggles afterwards. I scramble to come up with a name.
"I'm Raine," I say, using the only name I've ever known myself to be.
"Nice to meet you, Raine," he giggles again. Suddenly the door creaks open and a nice looking woman with Conner's sandy blonde hair comes in.
"Time for bed!" she exclaims and picks up Conner and tickles him. He squeals excitedly and the edge of my vision turns dark. Was he already forgetting me? The last thing I see is him getting a piggyback ride into his bathroom before the darkness consumes me.
I wake up in a strange… Hotel waiting room? On a red sofa? I look around confused.
"Miss Raine! There you are! Oh, I'm so sorry, but the kid looked so sad without you, that we had to send you right into the job." This odd looking man says, coming over to me.
He's got purple tinted skin and a big nose, but he's rather short. And, my gosh, his hair looks like Albert Einstein's only really, really poofy. He pushes his big round glasses up his nose.
"What? What are you gawking at?" He asks confused. "Oh! Me~! I'm sorry! Duh, you are new~. I'm an imaginary friend too. We all are here. Most change forms. You were lucky enough to not have to." He explains.
"I'm an imaginary friend. Like a heffalump?" I asked incredulously.
"Well, not so much as a heffalump," He laughed. It was a belly laugh, everything moved on him from his hair down to his shoe laces. If I wasn't so confused it could have been infectiousness.
"You're not a heffalump, they don't exist! No, Miss Raine, you are an imaginary friend that looks, well, normal!" He wiped a tear from his eye from the laughter. "Heffalumps! My word!"
He pulled a blue folder off of his desk and turned it so I could see what was written inside.
There's all sorts of papers in the folder, making me wonder how they all even fit in there. I pull out a white envelope that's only sealed with a small sticker that says welcome. I open the envelope to find a colorful card.
"Miss Raine," I read aloud. "A brand new edition to our ever expanding Hotel of Friends! Welcome!" Under the phrase and all over the card is names: wacky ones, weird ones, crazy ones, insane ones, and a few normal ones.
"This folder has everything you need to know in it, and it's all yours to help you out. That card was signed by everyone on your hotel floor. Oh, I suppose you'll need the key to your room." He hands the folder to me then starts to search his pockets.
He pulls out all sorts of weird things, and I'd be in awe if I wasn't in shock. I look at the card again. That's a lot of people. How big is this place?
"Ah! Here it is!" He says, taking a comically big silver key out of his pocket. "Wait, no… That's Ford the Giant's…" He shoves the key back into his pocket somehow, before he pulls out a much, much smaller gold one. "There." He says, handing it to me. "Room 1085. Just head to floor 91 and look for the door with your name on it. It'll be much easier. And, don't worry! The floors don't have bazillions of rooms each! There's about 12 on each floor! I'm in charge of floors 91-100, so, if you have any questions, you know who to ask~!"
"Uh~…" I try to pull my thoughts back together, as my mind explodes at the mere mention of how big this place could be. "W-wait! Actually, I don't know who!" I manage; this guy had never even given me his name.
"Oh, how silly of me! Absolutely ridiculous! I'm Bobert, room 1081! If you ever can't find me, just leave a note there!" Bobert explains. "Alright~! I must be off! Tata~!" He exclaims, turning to leave.
(Can we continue this? It'll be real fun to describe all the characters and the way things work in Hotel of Friends.)
(Yes please! I feel like this is an extension of Fosters Home of Imaginary Friends!)
"Uh, Bobert, how do I get up to my floor?"
"Oh just follow me and I'll send you that way! Just a thing of warning though, if it looks like the walls have eyes, well, they do. Keep an extra thing of Tic Tacs on you and toss one towards the eyes and Bex will leave you alone."
I started to rise from the chair, "Bex?"
"Bex! He's like a chameleon with a taste for Tic Tacs. You'll meet him soon enough! Come on now! Let's get you upstairs so you can get settled and meet everyone!"
"U-uh, ok." I put the card and it's envelope back in the blue folder, closing it and carrying it by my side. "So, uh, you said that that card was signed by everyone on my floor?"
"Yes~, why?" Bobert asks.
"There were just so many names. If there's only 12 rooms for each floor, then how-" I start to ask, but my guide cuts me off, guessing the rest of the question.
"Why with roommates of course~! You'll have three~! Don't worry, the room is huge~! I know when you think big hotel you probably think skinny and tall, but this one is wide and tall! It has to be for the big guys downstairs! Let's see…" He taps on his chin in thought as we walk. "Your roommates are the Star Twins and Meg. They're fairly normal, or at least human shaped. Oh, and before you ask, the twins are not stuck together."
(I don't want to be the one to decide what the twins look like, but I don't want them stuck as one two headed being either…)
(Can I just continue it again, if no one else is going to? I'm really enjoying this…)
(Yeah, I think that's fine. Go ahead.)
Roommates? I mean, he says they're normal, but how normal is normal here?
He leads me to what looks to be a normal elevator, and we get in. Dear lord… How many floors are there?! The wall that usually has all the buttons to the other floors is ridiculous, completely littered with buttons. Bobert presses one, and the door closes. My stomach lurches harshly as we suddenly go up, the doors opening shortly after closing. Would a little warning have killed him? Wait, did we just go up 91 floors in two seconds?!
"Right this way," he says, leading me down the hallway.
As we go down the hall, I notice that the doors are really far apart, and that most of them have four names on them each. I look down at the end of the hallway, noticing a pair of eyes, seemingly on the far wall, blinking at me. I freeze.
"What?" Bobert asks, then looks around. "Oh, Bex! See, there he is!" He shouts, pulling a box of tic tacs out of his pocket. "Here~!" He tosses it to the chameleon, which catches them in midair with its tongue and eats them, box and all. "I hope you had a wonderful day~!" He turns to the door nearby to check how much further we have to go. "Oh, would you look at that~! We're here!"
I look the the door, seeing the names Megerna, Dylan, Danielle, and my name, Raine on small plaques nailed neatly to the door.
"Uh, you warned me about Bex, and clearly that warning panned out, but do you have anything else you need to warn me about the others?"
He laughed, if I wasn't so nervous it would once again be contagious!
"Well, don't tell one twin over the other who is prettier, they'll bite your head off… literally. As for the other one, well, she's not the most beautiful fellow out there but she'd appreciate it if you didn't mention that. Worst case scenario you'll walk in and the three of them will look exactly alike - or like you - and you'll have a tough time figuring out who is who! I can tell you one smells like lavender most of the time, the other cinnamon… but don't ask me which cause I still mix them up and they've been here six months!"
I took a deep breath, trying to figure out what else to ask him. Before i could, however, He seemed to remember something.
"Oh my! I simply must be leaving." Without so much as an explanation, Bobert sprinted away, back towards his desk. I swallowed, this ought to be interesting
I knock on the door, getting no response. I stare down at the lower half of the door. Maybe, no one is in there currently. I slowly grab the door knob, about to turn it when it gets ripped from my grasp by the door swinging open.
"What is it this- Oh, someone new. What's up?" An emotionless voice asks.
(This is the first ones of these that I've truly enjoyed. Good work @isabel !)
(Oh. Thanks. I really enjoyed working on this with the others; I think they did great too.)
My eyes quickly flicker to the top of the door frame, where a tall figure stood. The figure is clearly feminine, but that's about all I can tell. She has a blank face, even though it seems to be shifting and swirling and changing by the millisecond.
"Who-who are you?" I ask, cautiously.
"I am Megerna," the voice responds, still blank. "And you are-"
"Oh!" I stutter, suddenly at a loss for words. "I'm, uh, Raine. I just got here."
"Oh, fun." Megerna gently puts her hand on my forehead. I was getting mildly uncomfortable, before Meg yanks her hand away. I blink, and suddenly, I'm standing before a mirror image of myself.
"Wha-what did you just do? How are you ~me~?" I gasp.
"I'm a shape-shifter," Meg grinns. Her voice now sounds freakishly like mine. "Like giving people a bit of a shock." She smirks. Then, a new voice echoes from inside of the room.
"Who goes there?!"
