“Great. Great! Just great,” Coppershine said nervously. She grabbed some moss with her teeth and pushed it under Crescentshine’s belly, then offered up her paw. “Push it into the ground as hard as you can.”
“Great. Great! Just great,” Coppershine said nervously. She grabbed some moss with her teeth and pushed it under Crescentshine’s belly, then offered up her paw. “Push it into the ground as hard as you can.”
Crescentshine shakily lifted her paw and placed it on Coppershine's. "Er, Coppershine? That might not be the best ide-" Duckwing began, wincing when Crescentshine slammed Coppershine's paw into the ground.
Coppershine let out an earsplitting yowl of pain. “Is it helping?” She mumbled through ground teeth.
Crescentshine didn't respond, her claws pressing into Coppershine's skin. "You okay, Coppershine?" Duckwing asked.
“Yep. Fine,” Coppershine muttered. “This is fine.”
Duckwing looked around for a moment before grabbing some poppy seeds. "These ones are for pain, I think." He gave some to Crescentshine, who caught some on her tongue before yowling again.
“Nice job. Good. Cool. What next?” Coppershine asked.
Duckwing lay by Crescentshine's head, purring and encouraging her, trying to reassure her. "The pain is only temporary… soon, you'll have new, beautiful kits. You can raise them just like Dewpaw and Lilypaw, and someday they'll be warriors, and…" He kept rambling while Crescentshine breathed heavily.
“Yes. Kits are great. As long as they’re not being born,” Coppershine commented.
Crescentshine screeched as she gave birth to the first kit, panting. Duckwing carefully picked it up and brought it over to Crescentshine's belly, forgetting to clean it.
Coppershine began to lick the kit’s fur. “What do you want to name - her?” she asked.
"I think we'll let her name them when the rest come…" Duckwing murmured, gently running one paw along Crescentshine's swollen belly.
“Good idea. Alright. One down, however many more to go,” Coppershine said.
After a little while longer of struggling, Crescentshine gave birth to three more kits. Only one of the bunch was a she cat, and it was the first.
With a sigh of relief, Coppershine released her paw from Crescentshine’s grip. “Four kits! Good job!”
Crescentshine cheered weakly from where she was laying. "You did great, Crescentshine…" Duckwing murmured. "You too, Coppershine."
“Thanks, pal. Whatta ya think, is it naming time?” she asked Crescentshine gently.
Crescentshine nodded and looked at the kits. "The she kit can be… Sparrowkit." She nudged her gently (lmk if you wanted yours to be a tom and I'll change it) "This one can be Stagkit." She nudged a dark brown tom that looked rather like Eaglestar, the largest of the litter. "Then… Hornetkit-" She touched a sandy ginger tom with dark stripes. "-and…" She looked at the last kit, a solid black kit. "Batkit."
"They're perfect, Crescentshine," Eaglestar purred. "They'll be great warriors one day."
Crescentshine nodded and yawned, laying her head down and soon falling asleep. Duckwing slowly retreated to let Crescentshine be alone with Eaglestar.
Coppershine backed out of the medicine den as well. She pressed her pelt against Duckwing’s, twining her tail with his.
(Sparrowkit being a girl is great! Do you want me to do the bio now?)
(Go ahead)
Duckwing sighed in relief, nuzzling against Coppershine. "Thank Starclan that didn't go worse.
“I know, right? They’re gonna have to make the both of us medicine cats,” Coppershine teased. “Ugh. I am exhausted. I seriously don’t know how Crescentshine did it.”
"Well, I tried to warn you about letting her crush your paw." Duckwing licked her cheek affectionately.
