(Oh yeah, I guess I’ll write.)
Xander stared at Enzo with his big, gray eyes, and he was mortified. This man might actually try to kill him. He’d never seen that look on anyone’s face before.
“Enzo…” he muttered.
Xander wanted to plea for mercy, or apologize, or something, but he doubted anything would quell the man’s anger, so he didn’t finish.
"Drop the glass," Enzo commanded, his words clipped and direct. He took another few steps backwards, scanning the room for a weapon. He didn't see anything, but maybe he could take the weapon from Xander? He overpowered him by a hell of a lot, and if he caught him off guard…
(This is what John was worried about earlier lol This is so entertaining to read)
“I don’t exactly expect mercy from you,” Xander replied, “You’re dead-set on making sure I don’t leave this place because I don’t deserve to live.”
Suddenly, Enzo remembered. John. The broken mirror. His eyes darted towards the ground, where John's body had once been. The shard of glass was still there, caked with blood. He quickly looked back at Xander, hoping he hadn't noticed. "No," he agreed, "you don't deserve my mercy." He edged against the wall towards the glass. Slowly, carefully. He was almost there.
Xander’s eye caught what Enzo was doing, but he knew that no matter what he did, he would not be fast enough to keep Enzo from grabbing a shard of glass, too. Xander turned tail and ran from the living room instead of trying to stop Enzo.
The moment Xander turned to run, Enzo dove to the ground and grasped the glass shard. He turned and began to pursue the other man. He was faster, he had to be. His heart pounded as he followed Xander down the hallways. "Of course, you run!" he screamed as he chased him. "Only a coward would kill a little girl!"
The word coward had no effect on Xander. He already knew. He was already aware of how scared he was and that fear was what prompted his decision to not spare poor Lixi.
Xander was pretty sure he could easily outrun Enzo for a time, but he could not escape this house, and by extent, he couldn’t run from Enzo forever.
Enzo continued to run, but slowed his pace some. Xander was faster than he thought. Then again, he should have known. Cowards are usually fast. Shaking his head, he decided to try to cut him off. He was heading down the main hallway. Maybe if he turned into the foyer, and then cut a left into another room, he might be able to cut in front of Xander.
Xander stopped for a moment to see that Enzo was no longer in hot pursuit. He let himself catch his breath and figure out what to do, but he was certain that unless another vote were to happen right away, there was no escape. Not a chance.
Enzo crouched behind a wall. He'd managed to duck into the foyer, which led to a room with an adjacent bathroom that led to another room. He'd successfully managed to shorten his journey by quite a bit, and he was certain he was ahead of Xander. He peeked out. Xander was still a few feet away, in the hall. He waited.
Xander paced forwards slowly, heading closer to Enzo. Despite being on high alert, he didn’t notice Enzo there. He thought the man was still behind him somewhere.
Closer…closer…step by cautious step. Enzo held his breath, biding his time. He suddenly remembered the last time he'd been in a knife fight. Someone had threatened his sister, and he wasn't having it. He'd waited, just like this, his knife in between his fingers. He'd lost an eye in the fight, but he'd been victorious.
This time, he wasn't even going to lose the eye. The moment Xander was in range, he sprang out of his crouch and slammed his elbow into Xander's chest, shoving him against the wall. He aimed the shard of glass towards the other man's neck.
Xander screamed in utter terror the second Enzo slammed into him. Everything seemed to slow, and he could see the shard of glass come at his neck. As a last-ditch effort, Xander swung his arm so he could perhaps cut Enzo, but all it did was make a nice, clean scratch on his cheek. It was too late. Enzo had aimed all too well and cut open the carotid artery. Xander was in horrible pain, but everything was already going fuzzy, so he hadn’t even the time to think on it.
He did not utter any last words or apologies or goodbyes. Everything was passing by much too fast. At the rate he was losing blood, he was going to die in minutes.
Xander’s vision started to go black around the edges, and he began to fall.
Enzo gasped for breath, his eyes wide as he watched Xander slump over. He dropped the glass with a thud. He crouched down and made Xander look him in the eye. "See? This is what happens to cowards," he spat. Somehow he felt no pity towards the kid. Just anger and a deep satisfaction that he'd managed to avenge Lixi.
Xander was on the floor, bleeding out. He had lost consciousness almost right away, but somehow he was still breathing. He wanted it to stop, but he couldn’t do anything to communicate that he just wanted Enzo to finish him off instead of leaving him to suffer as he was. Xander’s mind swam around in an infinite blackness as his body lay on the floor in front of Enzo, with hardly any life left.
(Does he have a letter?)
Xander's breathing was becoming less steady, Enzo noticed. He was bleeding out, slowly, painfully. Enzo wasn't a sadist, but he did nothing to speed up the process. He just watched him struggle for every breath.
(Uhhhh he should. I’ll have to write something up.)
(Okay)
(The note is lying on a table in the living room, and was written just after the second vote- the one where Paige didn't vote and John killed himself, but it was before they heard the results. Should River find it?)
(Yes, River should definitely find it. Enzo would just rip it up)
(Wait are they going to live now?)
(Lol he would want to rip it up even more after reading it.)
(Wait are they going to live now?)
(River and Enzo? Yeah, unless something wild happens that I don't know about yet.)
