"Is-is there anything we can do to help? Or take her to the nurse?" Max asked. He didn't want to live the rest of his life knowing he could've done something to help someone but didn't do anything.

Max sighed and ran a hand through his unruly hair. "Look, all I'm saying is maybe we should just take her to the nurse." he hated it when Tessa got like this.

Max couldn't believe the stupidity of this conversation they were having. Maybe it was something he said? No, it had to be something he said. "Look, I'm sorry Tess, alright? You know I love you…"

In his best attempt to get out of this situation he just told Tessa, "I'm going to get the nurse, okay? Stay here," and walked away to the nurse's office.

A few minutes later, Max came back with the nurse. "What happened?" the nurse, Lily, asked kindly. Though she was over 50 years old already, going on 60, her face covered in wrinkles, and glasses to top it all off, Lily still worked here, doing her job diligently.

"Ah," Lily replied, giving Dove a quick glance over. "Do you know your friend's full name? Perhaps a number I can call? Asthma attack, am I right?"

Lily gave Tessa a quick nod of acknowledgement and said mostly to herself, "I'll look up her file later…" and rubbed her forehead, unsure of what to do. In all her 30 years she had worked here, she had never had this happen before.

Max just stared in the general direction of the ceiling, spaced out.

In a stern voice, Lily told Dove, "Don't move," and ran off. A split second later she came back with some gauze and medical tape and some antibiotic cream, and gently tended to Dove's lip.

Max jumped slightly at Lily's voice, but then relaxed as soon as he realized it was just Lily. His thoughts were churning inside him, but he put on a calm facade.
