Lukas eyed Damien as the latter brushed himself, his flushed skin tone returning to normal. He didn't ask, though, and the incident was silently forgotten as they split up to head to their respective classrooms.
Lukas eyed Damien as the latter brushed himself, his flushed skin tone returning to normal. He didn't ask, though, and the incident was silently forgotten as they split up to head to their respective classrooms.
Jared went and met up with his friend for a bit, then headed to class. He arrived five minutes before it would begin, and sat down with a soft sigh. Here we go. He took out his notebook and pencils, arranging them on the desk.
Damien got to his classroom to find it deserted. He sat down in the centre of the class, waiting for his posse to arrive and place themselves around him.
They arrived in one big wave, circling him like vultures.
"Hey Dam!"
"Hey there Dammy!"
"Heyo dude."
"Hello, can I sit next to you?"
He nodded, and a random girl took her seat next to him. The teacher arrived shortly after and as if by magic everyone student collapsed into a seat. Not even five minutes after the teacher started talking, a bath of paper landed on Damien's desk.
Lukas, however, walked into a half full classroom and made straight for a seat next to the kid from earlier. He sat down without a word.
Jared looked up as Lukas sat down, raising an eyebrow in surprise, but didn't say anything about it. The class soon started.
A good twenty minutes in, Lukas leaned in slightly. "D'you know Damien?
With a frown Damien picked up the little ball and unfolded it. Wanna do something tonight? it read. He turned around to see a girl, Rose, staring at him with a half smile playing across her lips. He turned back to face the front, face flushed.
Jared blinked. "Huh? Oh, uhm…not really." He replied slowly.
Lukas pursed his lips. "Okay. You should eat with us today. Table right in the middle of the top row." Then he fell silent, diligently starting on his worksheet.
The rest of the hour passed excruciatingly slowly. Damien worked for about 5 minutes with the girl next to him, but she quickly got bored of him and started working alone and he had no choice but follow suit.
Jared frowned slightly. "Wait, why?" He asked, looking at Lukas for a moment before working on his worksheet. His hair fell into his face slightly.
Lukas shrugged. "I'm curious about what's up with Damien. I mean… you don't have to. I can always ask him directly. Whatever."
The bell rang. Lukas was up in a single second flat, out in the hallway. He spotted Damien a few steps ahead and ran to catch up.
"Christ, you scared me," Damien sighed. "Rose asked me out."
Lukas's eyes widened. "Seriously? Dude, that's so dope!"
Damien shrugged a shoulder, looking down at the ground. "Yeah, I guess it is. Should I say yes?"
"Of course you should!" Lukas said, elbowing. "You'd be legend."
Jared watched him go, frowning slightly. He's got to be pulling my leg. No way would that invitation be serious, no matter what his friend has been acting like…
(Skip to lunch?)
(sure)
Laughing, Damien, Lukas and a few other boys sauntered into the cafeteria, walking no over to the counters in a herd. There usual table was littered with other kids who all shuffled themselves to the end of it at the sight of the group of boys entering the room. Lukas let his gaze flit over the faces of those kids, looking for Jared.
Jared was sitting at the end of the table, a bloody napkin pressed to his nose and a book laying on the table. His shoulders were a little hunched and tense.
(bump?)
(Sorry!! Whirling for me right now I'm still trying to get my schedule back to normal)
Lukas spotted him far away, blowing his nose and sitting alone reading. That's a shame. With a shrug he turned away, back to Damien, already forgetting about Jared.
(it's fine!)
Jared pulled the napkin away, and threw it away with a sigh. His bloody nose was over. For now. Looking around, his eyed landed on Lukas and Damien. Oh. Right. Lukas wanted me to…sit with them? He thought, not sure what he should do.
Lukas, Damien and a small group of students walked away from the counters as one, grouping at a table. Damien was engrossed in a conversation about a movie with the girl who’d sat next to him, so he payed no attention to the fact Lukas was sat in front and not next to him.
Jared hesitated, then put his book away, and put on his backpack. He had a packed lunch. He didn't like standing in line, so he packed himself a lunch. He hesitated again, then tapped on Lukas's shoulder, looking severely uncomfortable.
Lukas jumped and turned around. "Hey, Jacob! Glad you could come!" He nodded to the seat next to Damien.
"Uhm… it's Jared." Jared replied slowly. "Not Jacob." He hunched his shoulders slightly, clearly uncomfortable, but sat down slowly, setting his backpack down beside him.
Damien stiffened, and pointedly turned his head to talk to the girl on his other side. Lukas watched carefully, and his eyes widened when Jared spoke. "Oh shoot, I'm so sorry! Names, you know, they fly right over my head. Sorry Jared. How were your classes?"
Jared shrugged. "It's fine." He replied. "They were okay, I guess?" He sort of just wanted to read his book agaun. He had no idea what he was doing here.
