"Well…" Bee muses. "Once the food was gone the zombies knew. They seemed to know they couldn't get to us, so they left. That shows some form of intelligence. But not climbing level. They also seemed to have a lot of strength, and be very quick. So, in short, fast zombies that can smell flesh from an unknown distance, but knows to choose their battles. Like the Walking Dead zombies. Cover yourself in some blood and guts, and they'll just think you're a mindless corpse. Zombies don't eat other zombies."
Bee suddenly pauses, suddenly noticing all the eyes staring at her.
"Not that I research this stuff or anything." She lets out a nervous giggle.
"That's not true, Edward." Maria says. "You're great from where I stand. And seeing as most of my teachers are now dead, you're excellent!"
Edward shrugged. "Good enough. I think we need to organize things so that we all have clear roles. Obviously some people know enough zombie lore to maybe get us through. We need to slowly work our way back in eventually. Maybe cover ourselves in… blood and guts…"
His brow furrowed at the idea, but if Bee was right, that might just be their saving grace.
Rowan was gaping. "You must really love zombie movies." Was the only thing he could manage. He took his phone back from the teacher and started reading. "We need rope and gloves and tape. Weapons are good and–"
"Where the hell do we find weapons here?" A girl screeched.
"If you let me finish…" he glared, "as I was saying, we can find weapons in the janitors room and storage rooms under the building."
"Chances are they aren't like the Z Nation zombies, so yeah, safe bet!" Bee says cheerfully. "I actually have been studying these things for years. I know all the best survival techniques, the best places to set up camp, and the best weapons to use!"
Mr. Poe sat in the closet, he now had nothing to do but count the passing seconds. "1, 2, 3, 4. . ." He soon got tired of counting. He groaned impatiently until something struck in his head. You would be stuck waiting here if you didn't depend on Edward do much. He tried his best to clear the thoughts from his head, but nothing could remove them. The words haunted him. You should depend on yourself more. He probably thinks your a burden.
"Bee, uh… Why don't you be my second-in-command?" Edward suggested, "You seem to know what you're talking about, yeah?"
He pushed through the crowd of students gently.
"Excuse me, pardon me."
Edward made it to the ladder leading to the chemistry lab and started down, just to peek inside.
"Ohh, I have rope in my survival backpack at home!" Bee realizes. "And tape, two changes of clothes, first aid kits…I also own two axes." (All facts. Boy I love living in the north.)
"Deal." Bee shrugs and follows him over to the ledge.
Rowan opened his mouth to say something but closed it and peeked over the side, watching his teacher go in with another student
"Lynde?" Bee calls, stepping over a few dead bodies and opening the door to the supply closet. "Lynde, are you up there?"
Edward peered into the lab below. It was a disaster. Broken glass everywhere, a few bodies, but no sign of the zombies. He climbed back in the window and made his way over to the storeroom, where he knocked on the door.
Lynde shimmied her way out from the ceiling and climbed down the furniture she had stacked precariously. She opened the door to see her father.
"Dad…" she whispered, squeezing him tightly.
A little eyeliner was running down the side of her face and she was shaky, but unscathed.
Edward turned around.
"Bee, I think we're ready to come back in," he said, "I think we should leave this place in vehicles. I have my van out back, there are student drivers. We should be able to do that, right?"
"Yeah, I can drive." Bee nods. Then she pauses and thinks. "On foot would be quieter, but with such a big group what the hell. Just as long as you don't stop."
"Yeah, the group's too big to go on foot," Edward agreed, "Let's find anyone else we can and get going."
He stopped for a second.
"Bee, you weren't serious about us covering ourselves in blood and guts, or were you?"
Dee stares at him. "Do you want to live?"
Rowan was trying to calm down a group of agitated kids who were convinced Edward and Bee had been killed and eaten. Although that probably wasn't true, it was extremely difficult to try and calm down panicking teens when you yourself were a panicking teen.
"Welp… Guess that's what we're doing now," Edward replied.
"Oof… Rip…" Lynde muttered, "Gross, but okay. Dad seems to trust you enough."
"They just went to get Lynde guys." Maria reminds them. "They'll be fine."
"Cool. You can start right now." Bee bends over one of the corpse's bodies and shoves her hand into the tear in their stomach.
Coming back with a big handful of darkly coloured blood, she holds it out to Edward with a grin. (Do not trust these Gen Zs, Edward……)
"We're all gonna die!" A blond boy said dramatically. He may have been a theater kid with the amount of extra he 'fainted' with.
"Oh shut up Jackson!" A girl said from beside him.
"Of course we had to be stuck with the unofficial duty of babysitting teens." Rowan muttered to himself
(Night, guys! Got a 9 am tomorrow lol)
(Ohh my god, do you actually know Jackson? Because that's fucking Jackson!)
(Hey, i'm gonna go too, because I have had nothing to do here for the last half of an hour and I'm not really that important.)
( I have no idea what you're talking about lol)(Imma sign off too I have exam prep in the morning)
