“I’m melody and this is Lily,” she said. Lily rased her hand and waved at Nate.
“Nice to meet you,” He smiled. “I’d say me casa su casa but… me casa isn’t even me casa…”

“Nice to meet you as well,” she said smiling lightly. “And thank you so much for letting us be here.”
She felt a wave of deja vu wash over her. She remembered being in his shoes far too well. She could remember the words Matt had told her when she first arrived. "I can't force you to trust me or stay here but I'm not going to force you away either. It's your choice." Matt had been the leader of their rag tag little group before he had died fighting off a SCARECROW unit. It had only been him, her, and Nate at the time. None of the others remembered him.
The dinner was silent as she reflected. Sisi disliked the silence, so he gripped his bookbag and the granola bar he was starving for tighter.
“Nice to meet you as well,” she said smiling lightly. “And thank you so much for letting us be here.”
“It’s not a problem… do you want to come out with the rest of us?”
(I just ate a granola bar and I’m proud too)
Melody nodded and stood up. She picked up lily and the empty baby food container.
(I basically just kicked my ideas into the ring like 'Here! Have a backstory!')
As ironic as it would be, she felt the need for history to repeat itself. She took a deep breath and repeated the words Matt had told her to him.
Nate smiled and led them out by Caroline and Sisi. “Look. Visitors and stuff!”
“Hi,” Melody said giving a small wave.
She covered her still bleeding lip with one hand and waved with the other. "Hi, hello."
Nate sat down at the table without his foolish smile. The smile across his lips was nervous and unsure, maybe even a little awkward, it lacked his basic and typical confidence.
"I'm melody and this is Lily," she said looking a the girl from yesterday and the new boy.
"I think I chewed through a blood vessel or something, there isn't usually this much blood." She looked up and her heart practically stopped. She almost never saw the sweet, kind, sensitive side to him that she knew he had. This, even if it was just a smile, was a peek into it, a crack in the mask.
"Do you want me to look at it or something?" He looked up but not directly at her, "It just needs pressure,"
"No, I've got it. Thanks though." She could recall almost every single time she'd ever said that to a person, most notably her boyfriend James. His image flashed in her eyes. His warm brown eyes and always messy black hair. His smile, which he always hated, was burned into her memory. And for a minute, only a minute, her guard dropped. The walls she'd built up for her own protection and the brave face that they all knew so well, dropped.
He watched her crumble in front of him, they were broken together but he worried more about her than he should. Nothing in his life mattered when she was broken.
Her pain was visible, white hot and fresh, flowing through her just beneath her skin. She always locked away the scared little girl that begged for her to show how she really felt in fear of being abandoned again.
"Actually, we should probably get that taken care of," he took her hand as he walked past and dragged her with him to the back room.
Pull yourself together! You've gone through so much and this is what causes you to break down? She shook her thoughts away but she couldn't shake the memories.
He pulled a black and red duffel bag from under his bed and ruffled through it's contents, removing a First Aid box and a picture frame. He handed her the picture frame and used the box to find gauze. "That's my little brother, they took him,"
Don't cry, don't cry, I know you want but don't cry. She needed to get out of her own head. The group had never actually seen her cry before. She smiled a little at the small picture. "He looks just like you."
“Yeah,” he laughed a little but it was hollow and humorless. He held gauze in one hand and pulled her sill bleeding lip down with the other.
Her eyes shifted around the room anxiously, looking everything but actually at him. If he looks at me, he'll be able to see everything. And I can't have my weakness affect anyone else.
"Look, I know you've lost people too. You don't have to hide it from me you know?" he placed the gauze in her lip gently.
