(Oh, right. Sorry.) "No, Allie and I want to adopt this one." Samuel said kindly. "Yes, he's the perfect child for us. And honestly, he would be worth far more if you were less neglectful! Just look at the poor kid, they're nothing but skin and bone at this point!" Allison said. "Show us the paperwork for adoption."
The nurse cast the little boy a look and sighed. "Alright, follow me." She led them to her desk and pulled out a small file with the name: Jacen Amos Williams; 50; 12/23/12 at the top.
"Just sign off on the 50 PP and the papers and you'll be able to take him home." She pushed the papers towards them.
The two signed the papers. "Just one question. How old is Jacen?" Samuel asked.
"He goes by Jace, and he's six years old," The nurse answered with a tone of sourness.
"Only six? How dare you, I swear I'm going to kill y-" Allison was cut off by her husband. "Al, honey, Jace is going to be just fine now, please just relax." he said. A few minutes later everything was in order and they took Jace home in their car, which was, to be more accurate, the world's most generic minvan. Allison sat by Jace the entire ride home, feeling especially protective of her adopted son.
Jace was quiet and ridiculously short and skinny for his age, as previously mentioned. Jace didn't babble much, as most sixer kids would do, he just sat in the seat, fiddling with the strings that hung down from his sweater.
"Hi, I'm Allison." she said to Jace. "This is my husband, Samuel. We're going to take you to our house now, I think you'll like it."
Jace glanced up at her and grinned a little, showing discolored and crooked teeth. "Okay," He answered in a croaky, yet sweet voice.
(Bump I know it's been 13 minutes but I'm concern)
"Oh look, we're here already!" Allison said, pointing out the window to a large mansion with a even bigger garden, probably full of places to explore. "Wanna see your bedroom?" she asked.
Jace blinked at the vastness of the mansion and stood on his knees to see outside of the window. He slowly nodded his answer to her question.
Samuel opened up the car doors to let them out. "Samuel, could you make dinner while I help get Jace settled in?" Allison asked. "Sure thing, does curry sound good?" he asked. "Sounds heavenly." she replied, and the three walked inside. Samuel went to the kitchen while Allison showed Jace his room, which was on the ground floor since it was difficult for her to handle the stairs with her crutches, even though there were elevators in the west wing which was on the other side of the house, unfortunately, and she wanted to be able be close to Jace in case he ever needed anything. You never knew with kids. She opened the door to his bedroom, which was pretty large and had a walk in closet and large bed with a galaxy themed bedspread. There was a 3-D solar system hanging from the ceiling, the planets revolving slowly around the Sun. The room was lined with posters of astronomy and mythological icons, and bookshelves holding both books of all kinds, from information to fantastic stories ranging from Sci-Fi to historical fiction. Inside the closet was outfits that were either unisex or made for a younger boy in a few different sizes. Obviously the couple had wanted a son but didn't know the age range, so they made the bedroom suitable for a child of any age and decided to pick multiple different outfits in several different sizes. There was a nightstand by the bed with an average looking lamp and a vase with tulips sticking out of it. "Do you like it? Your room, I mean. We're just across the hall if you get sick or have a nightmare or just need to see us, I want you to feel as safe as possible here." Allison said.
(That's sick, m8. Love your description/imagery)
Jace looked purely overwhelmed as he poked his head into the awesomely scaped room. He walked in unsurely and studied the bed that was taller, and bigger than him, the bookshelves, which truly spoke to him because he always loved books.
"I… yes but…" Jace looked at her with his wide gray eyes. "Why would I need to get you?" He tilted his head. "I wouldn't want to bother you. He always says that good boys keep to themselves."
"Who said that?" Allison asked.
"Him!" Jace exclaimed gently and pointed at the empty bed.
"I don't see anyone there…. I guess 'he's' invisible to other people. What does 'he' look like?" she asked, making a mental note to take Jace to a therapist to figure out what a mysterious man might mean. It could be an imaginary friend, she reasoned, but imaginary friends don't talk down about you. Maybe PTSD? Allison had no idea.
"He's kinda scary and all black (not racism i promise). He says I'm related to him, but I can't believe that!" His eyes widened more. "I can't be related to him! He's so scary!"
(Calling someone 'Black' isn't racism btw, it's a commonly used term. I'm assuming that you mean the mystery man is 'black' in the sense of the actual color, though, not skin tone.)
"Well, you're related to us now. I'm going to protect you from him." Allison said, unsure of how to handle this.
(I just wanted to clarify he meant in the term, 'all black' like a dog, or painted black, not the skin color. Thanks for understanding Impossible!)
Jace held his own hands again. "Okay," He squeak/croaked gently.
"You can talk about the scary man any time you want to." Allison said. "Allie, Jace, dinnertime!" Samuel called from the kitchen. "C'mon, let's get something to eat now." Allison said. He sure needs it. But I'm still wondering about the man he keeps seeing. I'll talk to Samuel about it later, I suppose. she thought.
Jace quietly walked out of his bedroom and followed Allison down the steps, then into the kitchen, sniffing the air curiously.
Samuel had set out a steaming dish of curry, with flatbread as a side dish and lemonade, along with a colorful fruit salad for dessert. "Sit down, and then let's pray before we eat." Samuel grinned. Allison pulled out a chair for Jace and she and Samuel sat down on either side of him. Samuel said a quick prayer and then served dinner, which smelled and most definitely tasted delicious if not a little bit spicy.
Jace had only a bit of everything before murmuring he was full and pushing the food away, which he thought was scrumptious, but had learned that he shouldn't eat too much. He busied himself by draining the glass of lemonade instead.
After they had finished eating, Allison cleared the dishes and she and Samuel both washed them, with Allison drying them off and putting the dishes away. "Samuel, there's something I need to talk to you about after Jace has gone to bed." Allison whispered, so Jace wouldn't be able to hear. She didn't want to worry him, it was probably scary being in a new home away from everything you're used to, and barely knowing the people who have taken you in as well.
