Infinitus awoke with the sun in his face, and a distant memory of an explosion, but he couldn’t quite remember why it had happened.
Sitting up, a groan escaped his lips, a hand cradling his head. He had a terrible headache, and not a clue why. Eyes flickering around him, he saw others dressed in the same clothes as he was, still unconscious. But the scene interested him more; it was in ruins, almost if something important happened here.
Sunlight was invading their eyelids, and Imperium wasn't sure how to feel about that. Eventually, they dared to crack open an eyelid, revealing an orb of amber that peered curiously at their surroundings. What could this be the aftermath of? They glanced down, examining themselves with naive interest. At least Imperium still had their crescent-moon blade strapped neatly on their back. The ringing in their ears echoed, a whisper of what Imperium had experienced.
(Ack sorry it took me forever)
Mortem sat up silently and looked around in confusion. After a minute or two of rubbing her eyes, she walked over to a rock that had broken off of something and sat on it, looking around and marvelling at how amazing it all was.
Via stared at the sky for a few seconds when he awoke before hesitantly standing. He didn't recognize his surroundings and was a bit disconcerted, but he had less interest in talking to the others than in figuring out where they were.
Using a destroyed wall to help him stand up, he traced the symbols engraved in the stone. It looked like no one had been here for a hundred years—well, except for them of course. Eyes glancing between everyone, he finally spoke, voice scratchy as ever. “Who are you guys?”
Mortem looked up cheerfully and replied in a voice bright as a bell, "no clue whatsoever. Who are you? Nevermind, I don't really care. The sky's awfully blue today, isn't it?"
They hauled themself up. “Imperium,” they said softly, eyes briefly flickering to the sky, then Mortem. “The weather is nice.”
Mortem leaned against the pillar, tipping her feet back and forth like a child. "That's a cool name. Mine's…" she trailed off for a moment, thinking. "Er, Mortem. Yes, I like that. Call me Tem."
Vita watched the interaction in silence before turning to look at their surroundings again. He couldn't quite figure out where they are, but the name 'Vita' seemed to cling onto his mind as the name that belonged to him.
“Mine’s…” Infinitus squeezed his eyes shut for a moment, racking his brain. His face lit up when the name ‘Infinitus’ came up. “Inifnitus, I think.” Turning around in a circle, he pointed at the other male in the group. “And you might be?”
Vita glanced down at Infinitus's finger, seeming a bit tense. "Uh… I believe my name is Vita."
Infinitus nodded in satisfaction, dropping his hand. His eyes flickered over the ruins one last time, his gaze catching on something on the ground. Bending down, he lifted the paper, squinting at the scribbles in the shape of a map, almost. “What the…?”
Mortem gazed at the sky. "What is it?" She asked airily.
“A map of some sort…?” Infinitus turned it around in every direction before settling on the first one. “It’s got a city named Arebol on it.” For some reason, when he said the city’s name, he felt as if he should remember why it was so important, but it all was just blank.
Mortem tapped her leg. "Hm, sounds magnificent. What is it? Have I been there? Maybe the king died there."
//I am a horrible person for consistently forgetting this website exists and I am so sorry :(
Vanitate glanced around and crossed her legs neatly. "Arebol, hmm? Maps are meant to be followed. Should we go?" She briefly wondered if she'd forgotten to introduce herself, then decided it didn't matter. If they didn't know, they'd ask eventually.
Thoughtful eyes trailed from Mortem's excited energy to Vanitate. "We have nothing better to do," Imperium remarked, still wondering about the nature of their surroundings. Arebol. The word further prompted a small dam in the back of their mind to break, but the memories were locked up. They felt an immense urge to open their mouth and say what danced over the tip of their tongue, but the words never landed.
Morten stood up and went to climb one of the ruined pillars. She sat on top and looked around. "Hm, I'm tall now," she commented brightly.
"That you are." Vanitate nodded decisively, fingers twitching in her lap for a moment before she stood up. "Should we go?" She repeated.
Mortem nodded. "Probably. It'll be an adventure."
"Yes," Imperium said, hesitantly testing the word. When an immediate feeling of dread didn't settle in their gut, they decided it was the correct decision. As correct as anything could be in this world, where no one remembered anything.
