(Alright.)
She felt people grabbing her to carry her, and she was too weak to resist. Several times, she passed out randomly and came to within seconds. One of those times, she passed out and reawoke in the boss's office. "Oh no," she muttered sluggishly.
"hello there Miss Kate. Congratulations on the victorious win." The boss said with a warm smile.
Kate took a deep breath and tried not to scream because of it. "Where's Jay?"
"being fixed up maybe. I have been told that they have to fix a broken rib. Now, as we agreed we will leave your mother alone and she is off limits. So what do you want for your winning prize?"
Kate sighed happily, sending burning waves up her throat. The safety of her mother was all she genuinely cared about, so she didn't really know what else she wanted. In the back of her mind, the goal of taking down this organization lingered. "For right now, I'd just like to see Jay in privacy. We will discuss more after the meeting finishes."
"alright I understand. Most people like to see the person they beat after the fight " he pressed a button and someone walked in. "He could help you to see Jay."
Despite her lightheadedness, Kate shook her head. "I don't need help."
"I meant they would show you to the room." The person nodded for her to follow and walked down the hall and opened the door the person who was trying to help Jay left.
"Oh…" She walked as normally as she could as she followed and stepped into the room with Jay. "Hey…"
The guy shut the door and walked away.
Jay looked over at her while still laying on the couch. "Hello." He said as he picked up his shirt and put it on.
"Sorry," she said quietly, seeing the marks on his chest.
"it's alright. You're pretty good at fighting though." He replied and stared at her.
"You too." She didn't quite want to look him in the eye. "Those punches were good. Really convincing. Even I started to believe that you hated me."
"all for entertainment purposes." Jay said as he slowly sat up.
"Yeah. Explain that to my mom," she said, sounding truly heartbroken. "Jay… that fight… How I came into it… You have no idea. The only reason I'm able to stand right now is because I'm telling myself, 'Kate, if you can't stand up and walk around, you're not going to get out of here. Which means, you won't get to see Mom.'" She turned away. "And if Mom finds out you did this to me… She's going to hate you. She doesn't hate you right now – believe it or not – she just doesn't trust you. And she might not ever let me see you again, and I don't know what I would do… I love you, Jay. I really do. But the problem is, I can't tell if you love me, if you hate me, or if you ever used to love me before that fight." She leaned against the wall, feeling winded and closed her eyes. "Do whatever you want to me. Hit me, smack me, kick me – I don't care. Whatever you do, I won't see it coming, so please make it quick. Believe it or not, I'm in a lot of pain right now just by speaking and breathing."
Jay got um limped over to her and sat on the floor next to her and gave her a kiss then pulled back. "I think I could explain to your mom what happened also that you broke a few of my ribs and she may forgive me enough to either let me see you or not kill me."
Kate's eyes fluttered open. He kissed me. Maybe he does feel the same way… "Are you alright? Will your ribs heal?"
"yeah. They will heal. I'll be fine." He replied then under his breath said "not the first time I've broken ribs."
"What are we going to do? About this agency. We still have to take it down, remember? Your boss will pretty much give me anything for beating you, so…"
"well there is an easy way to take down this place. It all is based on loyalty and respect. If you spread a rumour here like, the boss is a weak bastard and only pulled me out because he has loyalties to others and only keeps his own interests in mind. People will start to go against him."
"So how can I use my 'after-fight power' to do that?" she asked. "Would I have to gain his trust first?"
"honestly no you don't need to gain his trust. Just tell one person something and it will spread. People here like gossip." Jay told her.
She sighed. "Good. And… thanks for the kiss."
"your welcome. I'm going to lay back down on that couch." He said then got up slowly then layed back down on the couch.
"Anything you need that I can ask him for?" Kate asked, standing weakly.
