“I don’t want to end up like my dad,” he confessed, surprised at his own candor. “He’s been working as a carpenter forever, and he’s miserable. He hates his job, and I hate being a carpenter too. I really want to make a difference, you know? Shit, now I’m monologuing.” He chuckled at himself, trying to brush off the seriousness of what he said.
She offered a small smile. "That's quite the cause. I myself am finding a way to bring upon a better world, hence this job, so that no mother feels what I felt when my little girl was taken away from me." She fiddled with the hilt of a dagger, then spun the point on the table as she fingered the stone conch shell necklace around her neck.
Thomas felt a sharp pang of loss thinking about what she said, trying to imagine what it would even be like to have a child and then have her cruelly ripped from his hands. It sounded awful. “That’s a noble cause indeed,” Thomas said softly. “I hope to help you in your mission.” He was not the best at comforting people but he hoped that he was doing adequately.
Kendra smiled sadly at him. "And I look forward to fighting by your side and helping you achieve your own goal. I see great promise within you." While she may not know what it's like to not want to become like your parents, she did sympathize with Thomas. Being stuck with something you didn't enjoy or like doing? She would have definitely gone insane.
“Thank you,” he said with a matching smile. He found like he had found an ally and hopefully a friend in Kendra. He meant it when he said he would endeavor to help her, and he was not known for going back on his word.
Rose smirked. "Fine, I'll make it better
Liya chuckled "what's your name?"
"Rose." She stuck out her hand.
Kendra nodded and leaned against the table, crossing her arms over her chest while she waited for the order to move out. She didn't like being told what to do–but what choice did she have on this matter? This was not her mission to lead; not her people to look after.
"Call me Liya." She replied shaking her hand "so, what made you join this entourage?" She asked picking g up another sword to test for weight
Rose shrugged. "I need something to do, and I hate mages."
But I am one.
"Oh." She said. Is everyone here a normal human?
Kendra raised a curious brow at Rose. "If you hate mages so much, then I do believe you may have a problem with me."
"Why is that?" Liya asked. It may not have been her business but…
Rose shrugged. "They murdered my family."
Chrysa was going to answer the girls question, before hearing their conversation about mages. She didn't comment on anything figuring omission was the best option, as everyone else was so willingly spilling their secrets.
"I see." Liya frowned at Rose's response
Thomas, having listened in, glanced at Kendra with a mixture of curiosity and alarm. He was, to be honest, a bit afraid of mages.
Rose shrugged. "So, I'm not too happy with them. Why are you here?"
Kendra glanced over to Thomas, noting his look of alarm. "I can only harden air into shields and blunt objects." She patted the twin swords strapped to her waist. "Hence the weapons."
“Okay,” he said, trusting Kendra, but still a bit apprehensive. He knew that she wouldn’t try to hurt him, but from years of growing up with a father and mother who were wary of mages ever since his uncle and cousin had died (Thomas still wasn’t entirely sure it was even due to mages), he was a little bit afraid of them.
"I dint know. I guess it was an easy way to escape the king's clutches." She muttered
Liya nodded and casually rotated her sword
Rose narrowed her eyes slightly.
Sarose rolles his eyes at the sight of everyone showing off their magic, he stopped the sword in its rotating pattern, no one would know he did it.
