Jax perked up. "I'm hungry!" She exclaimed. Actually, that was a lie. She was starving. It had been a while since the Flock had gotten enough to eat. Being bird kids and all, they needed 3,000 calories a day or more.
Jax perked up. "I'm hungry!" She exclaimed. Actually, that was a lie. She was starving. It had been a while since the Flock had gotten enough to eat. Being bird kids and all, they needed 3,000 calories a day or more.
Fox blinked, opening his eyes and looking around. “Can you guys shut up? Some of us are trying to sleep,” he complained, brushing a stray lock of hair out of his face. “Ah well. What’s for breakfast? I’m starving!”
"Anything's fine by me. I could eat a whole cow!" Jax murmured, leaning back and putting her hands behind her head.
“Me too!” Fox agreed, his stomach grumbling. He looked around at the others who were awake with a bit of a grin. He was probably one of the more positive kids in the Flock.
"Anything really sounds good right now," Callie chimed in. Of course, she would love pancakes or something like that, something like what she saw on TV, but she knew that was probably never going to happen. What was the point of being picky if you were on the run from angry Erasers and had no job? Callie wasn't really going to complain about that, though; the Flock was her family and they could all make do. They'd been doing it for quite a while.
"Well, I'm not," said Winston, which wasn't a new thing. His slow metabolism meant he barely needed any food to survive for months without eating. "But I do got 'bout $20 bucks in my pocket. Don' ask me where I got it, but we can go to, like, McDonald's or somethin'."
“You’re never hungry,” Fox added with an eye roll. “But listen to my stomach! It says ‘feed me!’” His stomach grumbled and he laughed. “I am so in for McDonalds or something!”
Jax practically jumped up and unfurled her long dark wings, soaring up a few feet in the air and doing a little twirl. "Let's go, then!" She exclaimed, her eyes lighting up.
"Let's wait for the others to fully wake up, alright?" he said, smiling at Jax's reaction.
"Aww, alright.." she sighed, flapping her wings and coming down. She had to admit, she did overreact a bit, but after being trapped in a facility where you barely get anything to eat, a full meal sounded wonderful. Plus, she had never tried McDonald's before and it looked delicious.
"They prob'ly jus' have the breakfast menu up right now," he told them, scratching the side of his face, "so I hope you weren't expectin' no burger."
(sighs wistfully Wish i could join)
"Honestly, I'd be happy with anything," Ellie replied. (sorry for the short reply, i have to go to school right now!)
"Well, then," he said, getting to his feet and stretching his arms as far as they'd go, "Let's go."
"Alright," she replied. "Just… try not to be too suspicious guys, remember, we're totally normal," Ellie warned, shrugging on a jacket that wrapped around her wings so they wouldn't be too obvious.
Winston did the same, his a large black hoodie with the word "Clemson" printed across his chest in bright orange. Out of the whole flock, his wings folded down the least, leaving the back of his hoodie with a faint bulge that he was very self-conscious about. A scowl fell onto his face, because he knew it was there.
Callie readjusted her wings so that they were hidden and checked herself to make sure that she didn't look too dirty. Her outfit, a pastel blue hoodie with snowflakes on it underneath a grey plaid flannel shirt, black jeans, and black boots, seemed relatively clean, so she wasn't that worried. "Totally," she said with a nod.
"Alright then, let's go," Ellie said with a nod as she walked out of the building.
Fox hurriedly shrugged on a dirty, brown bomber jacket and followed her. His clothes were dirtier than Callie’s, but not awful. He looked like a bit of a mess, but he didn’t think he’d stand out too much.
Reese folded his wings into his sweatshirt and sighed. He hated hiding them but unless he wanted to die, it was necessary. "Let's go grab food." He sighed
He filed in behind the others, his eyes on the lookout for anyone looking at them weird. Winston had gotten his mean look down to a T, able to make anyone feel awkward and look away from him after barely a second of eye contact.
As she looked around, Ellie saw the McDonald's out of the corner of her eye. Her clothes weren't too dirty, but she still tried to smooth them out to hide the fact that she'd been wearing them for about several months, perhaps longer; Elite hadn't been counting.
"Ellie," Winston called from the back, jogging to the front to meet her. "You take the money, I'll stand guard outside."
He slipped his hand into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out a crumpled $20 bill, offering it to her.
"Yeah, okay, just don't be too suspicious," Ellie called back and doubled back to retrieve the money. "What does everyone want?" she asked.
“An egg and cheese sandwich!” Fox called out excitedly. Part of his empathy thing made him despise eating meat “because it was like eating a friend” so he was vegetarian, even though it wasn’t easy seeing as they were on the run and all.
