People from different Cities and regions may have different powers. People with water(includes ice and snow) powers/magic can be from the mountains and ocean areas, People with fire(and lava bending) abilities may be from the desert and volcano lands, Excetera. Some don't have these abilities at all.
Nobody really stays at home all the time, travel is a thing. Some jobs require travel.
Where you were born may affect your power/abilities, who your parents can affect them too.

Home land: A small city that is slowly getting bigger. A mountain range border the city
Backs story: Nova learned to take care of herself and her younger sister, Aelia. She had to learn. They only had each other. Nova is responsible, calculating , protecting and such. She had to be grown up when she was still young and sometimes, it was hard on her. But she did what she had to for her family. Anyone who hurts anyone she cared about would be screwed.
Personality: She's a protector. She enjoys helping people and will do whatever she can to do so. Nova is very kind hearted once you get to know her. She doesn't trust people super easily and is super loyal to the people she has, including her sister Aelia. She is always one to protect others and help them before helping herself.
Other: She loves stargazing and painting and sometimes finds herself thinking too much and helping others before herself very often.

Backstory: When she was seven years old, her family attempted to kill her by putting her in a building and committing arson. Her little sister, Lily was always better at everything. Ava however, was flawed. Her family strived to be in the "in-group" like they were in high school all over again, and they couldn't have someone such as Ava in their family, flaws and all. She escaped, barely, but her family knows that she survived, and have been looking for her. She's been on the run ever since, twelve years she's been running, to be exact, seeking refuge with various strangers for the night and leaving at the break of dawn.
Personality: jumpy, nervous, and has anxiety. She can be very sweet if she gets to know someone well, though it hasn't happened yet. She does feel somewhat responsible for the little kids that sometimes come under her care for a while, now that she's 19.

Outfit: Layla typically wears some combination of jeans with a t-shirt and black combat boots. Loves weird/cool socks.

Home land: Cairo, Egypt (though her family moved to Canada about five years ago)
Backstory: Layla was born and raised in Egypt until her parents decided to move to Canada to be closer to her mother’s side of the family after her maternal grandmother died. Layla’s aunt and uncle live in Canada, and her mother had always been close to them, so she, Layla’s father, Layla, and Layla’s two younger brothers moved. She currently goes to college in Canada.
Personality: Fiery (hahah) and stubborn. Layla has a bit of a temper, but is usually good at concealing it. She has a sharp tongue and even sharper wit, and can come off as rude or abrasive. She uses sarcasm frequently. Despite her rough exterior, she is the type of girl to hold open doors for the people after her or pick up something someone dropped and return it. Layla loves her family and is very protective of them.

For Ava the ability is the same as the element. So if you want her to be able to fly have that as something she can do using wind and stuff.
