I'm here!! I might not be here after about an hour-ish because I might go work on my fashion design course
I’m here! I might have to go in an hour or so tho
I'm here
Sitting behind the counter inside a tall, round building, Florence and Sariel each watched the clock on the wall until it was time to open the doors. Once the store had been opened, the usual flow of people came through, buying books and tall bottles filled with colorful liquid. Swinging back and forth in the wind above the door was a large sign featuring a black cat but no words. Most people just called their store the Black Cat Book Store.
After around an hour, and after their morning rush had passed, the two could hear rumbling and growling from the Northern Dome, which happened to be less than 200 yards away. Since it had been breached for so long, the earth covering the Northern Dome had begun to fall away from it, revealing the square glass plates that made the structure as well as what was inside. The very bottom of the Dome was covered in water, though no one was sure how deep and aquatic dragons could often be seen swimming around. Coming out of the water, though, were tall trees, some of which had busted through the top of the Dome.
Finally breaking the silence, came Lau and Bamboo, Florence and Sariel's familiars. One was a Pine Martin (Lau) and the other was a large and foul-mouthed Maine Coon cat (Bamboo). The two were arguing again, with Bamboo being chased by Lau for throwing insults at him. The arguing only ceased when Bamboo jumped onto Sariel's shoulder as he replaced a few books on a shelf behind the counter.
"We really should just throw that weasel into the Dome," Bamboo said, sighing dramatically. "There are lots of hungry dragons he could be of assistance to."
Alright, there is the starter! If/when one or both of you have to leave for a bit, I'll make sure nothing big happens while you're gone.
I’m here
(aight, cool)
Marcus was mumbling softly to himself as he made his way into the store, reciting a list of items he needed to himself over and over so he wouldn't forget. He had originally written the list down, but had somehow lost it during the process of walking from a nearby cafe to the store. He went to slip inside the building, the bell barely jingling
Chelsea heard the rumbling from the Northern Dome from the comfort of her home, Flip hovering by her side. She threw down the book she’d been reading and hopped out of the worn lawn chair she was sitting in. Grabbing a bulging bag filled with various scientific instruments and rolls of film, she looped her aging camera around her neck.
“C’mon Flip! I wanna see if I can get better magic readings on the Dome, ‘cause last time it rumbled so loud, the readings were off the charts!”
Flip sighed, although he didn’t have a mouth anywhere on his bubble body. “Our intrepid explorer, off to look at the same Dome we’ve been to a bajillion times.”
Chelsea laughed, tugging her hair into a sloppy ponytail. “You’re the kindest soul I’ve ever met, Flip. Now, let’s go! And quickly, before the rumbling stops!”
She raced through the town, hurdling confused familiars and running straight into a poor guy mumbling his shopping list in her rush to the Dome.
“Sorry!” She yelled, and skidded to a stop in front of the Dome. She quickly set up her magicology meter, plunging the rod into the ground just a few feet in front of the eerie, rippling glass. The ground shook beneath her feet as she set up her other instruments, and then plopped down on the grass to wait.
Marcus squeaked and recoiled when he was bumped into, shocked out of his mumbling and train of thought from the surprise. He looked around a bit frantically for a moment, eventually finding the girl who had said sorry to him. Curious, he began to wander over to her, seemingly transfixed by the instruments in the grass. "What are those?" he asked, the meter steadily going wilder the closer he got
Bamboo continued to ramble on about how Florence should toss out Lau as a few more people came through the front door of the shop. Florence waved to them all individually and said hello, seeing as they walked in a few seconds apart each. With Lau on the counter, and Sariel doing his best to tune out Bamboo, who was still perched on his shoulder, Florence walked over to a corner of the store where they sold envelopes and wax seals, bringing along with her a clipboard to check how much of certain things they had left.
"Ah, and the rodent is alone once again." Bamboo said, this time speaking much louder than he had been before. Ignoring this, Lau ket sitting on the counter, waiting to let Florence or Sariel know if anyone needed help.
As the cat began listing off ways he could dispose of Lau, Sariel waved a hand in his face. "If people hear you talking like that, they'll leave. You already harass them as it is, I doubt they want to hear your crazy rambling about throwing Lau in a swamp."
"Isn't that odd?" Florence asked, finally having arrived behind the counter again. "The floor is shaking over there," she said, pointing to her right where a metal stand covered in colorful liquid wax was shaking slightly, one of the stamps on the floor.
"It isn't anything new," Sariel replied, pushing Bamboo's tail out of his face.
Quince ran down the streets heading to the Black Cat Book Store, Wait for us you dolt! Downpour spoke in his mind
"Ah, sorry guys!" He apologized as he skidded to a halt outside the store, "I think the new orders are in and I must get the new Magic Guide by Francis Gluzhimer!"
Understandable, dear The friendlier light pink koi, Tsunami said
Quince smiled at the two fish, who were a foot long and half a foot wide, 10x smaller than their actual forms. He walked inside the shop and the owner gave a small wave to him that he returned. He went up to the shelves and started searching for the book he wanted.
Chelsea jumped in surprise when she heard a voice behind her. She turned to see the guy she had run into looking curiously at her instruments.
“Oh! This is my magicology meter! It measures the active, residual, and latent magic in a certain area. I’ve been studying the Dome for a few years now, and generally, the rumblings mean high readings in all three categories! So, I rushed over here and nearly knocked you over in the process.” Chelsea looked down at her hands, blushing. “Sorry about that by the way..”
"Oh, uh…It's fine. I was a little distracted, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," Marcus tried to assure her with a soft smile. He sat down on his knees next to the meter, and when he poked it, the readings went almost as high as they could before returning to their still highly affected numbers. Suddenly, he realized why the device must have done that. "O-Oh, sorry, I must be giving off enough magic to interfere with your readings, so I'll just–Uh, I'll just go," he said as he got up
Finally finishing restocking the tall bottles that were usually shelved on the wall behind the counter, Sariel turned around with Bamboo blatantly ignoring what he had said about speaking so loudly. The cat was still perched on his shoulder but hopped onto the counter after a few moments to sit beside Lau.
"Harrassed by the rodent and ignored by my owner, oh the shame!" Bamboo said, rolling over onto his back.
"Please be quiet!" Sariel said, keeping his own voice down on account of how quiet it was in the building. During all of this, Florence was at the other end of the counter with a grin on her face as she watched the two bicker. Lau ran down towards Florence, jumping down into her lap.
“No-no, please don’t! No one has ever caused the readings to act like that before!” Chelsea looked up at Marcus with hopeful eyes. “Would you mind staying here for a few minutes so I can run some tests?”
"Aha!" Quince gasped triumphantly, then blushed as people stared at him funny. He looked at the top shelf and spotted the text on the spine of the book, "There it is, you guys…" He said softly, his eyes sparkling, "Now I can research this and learn how to use my magic better!"
Very nice The koi's chimed. Tsunami flew up and grabbed the heavy book in her mouth, adjusting her size so it would be easy.
Quince reached out and grabbed it as she reverted back to her normal size, "Thank you Tsu."
Downpour peered over his shoulder, How much does it cost? Do you have enough amounts of money?
(What is the currency)
(There are bronze coins which would be two US dollars/1.50 pounds; silver coins which would be five US dollars/3.80 pounds; and gold slips which would be ten US dollars/7.60 pounds. I hope that helps.))
Sariel and Bamboo continued to go back and forth until the cat swiped one of his paws over the counter, causing a few glowing words to appear on the counter. The text read, You're stuck with me anyway. Sweeping them away with his tail, Bamboo scooted out from in front of Sariel so that if anyone were to check out, the green haired man would be able to see them.
Taking a look back over at Sariel, Bamboo did the best he could to smile and said, "I know what would wake you up. A nice long walk to throw out Lau." He said.
Peeking over the counter, Lau almost said something to Florence about the boy with the fish needing help. But before he could, one of them grabbed it for the stranger.
(It does thanks)
"Three gold slips," Quince exclaimed, "Wooh expensive, good thing I have enough money!" He walked up to the counter where a witch, a wizard, a weasel, and a cat sat/stood.
I was a-watching that man and that cat bicker about, they must be close I say Downpour chirped passionately, The two must be at each other's throats, but alas when apart they must be lonesome souls
Quince quietly laughed, whilst Tsunami sighed
With Bamboo closely inspecting the fish and finally staying silent, Sariel rang up the boy with the book while Florence and Lau sat at the other register. "Three slips," Sariel said, stifling a yawn and giving Bamboo a warning look. Do not start harassing them, he thought using a stamp to make a receipt for the book. For some reason, he hadn't noticed the new book on the shelves before. But because of the title, he could guess what it was about. It was another issue of a magic guide, though quite a bit larger than the ones they had sold before.
Kaius walked into the bookstore and sighed when he realized that Makatza wasnt following him. "Kat, come on!" He whined, yelling for his fox to come. Appearing in a puff of smoke, Makatza the silver fox grinned as a fox would "sorry Kai, but you know how it is." Kaius sighed and ruffled his hair "no, no I don't. Now come on, I need to find the book of harnessing the lunar shadows." He mumbled and walked around, looking for a copy.
"Okay," Quince responded and pulled the slips out of his back pocket, "Here you are!"
The two fish swirled about, inspecting the humans and their familiars, Very interesting, I feel a strong magic presence, Downpour declared.
Ah, yes they must be quite powerful! Their familiars are fierce looking as well Tsunami agreed, studying the cat with her black eyes
Oh yes, yes. Hope the cat isn't a foul beast, he looks as if he'd tear someone's throat out. Downpour got close to the cat, "Don't eat us, sir cat for we are very poisonous and you'd die in a matter of seconds! Then your lovely male wizard owner would be deeply upset and cry all through the night,*
Seeing someone walk through the doors and begin to wander around, Florence approached them with Lau at her heels. "Is there anything I can help you find?" She asked as Lau hopped up to eye level by a bookshelf.
At the counter, Sariel took the money and put it in the register, smiling widely as Bamboo seemed to not have any idea as to what to say back to the fish.
"Are they always like that?" Sariel asked, as Bamboo leaned closer to the fish, narrowing his eyes.
"Can you poison by any other means? The weasel is quite a nuisance," Bamboo said, sounding as dramatic as he always did and ending his sentence with a wave of his tail. "Oh, the cruel words,"
"Haha, yeah, they have passion and see the deepness in people's and creature's bonds with each other…" Quince chuckled watching the fish speak to the cat, "He's a very handsome cat. What's his name?"
Our saliva is poisonous and if we spike our fins then that's dead;y too. Tsunami informed him.
Yes, yes but you would miss this dear weasel! Your bond is a rivalry but the rivalry would be missed! And you would feel guilty for killing him, would you not? Downpour circled the cat, passion filling his deep purple eyes.
Bamboo threw his head up in the air, not looking at either of the koi.
"His name is Bamboo and he's…Mouthy." Sariel said, trying to find a word to even remotely describe some of the things his familiar ran around saying.
"The weasel is a pesky creature," Bamboo said, his head up.
