Lucian nodded, a full smile forming now. “Good, I’ll make sure to do it more often. You should get some rest, now,” he said in a soft tone.
Lucian nodded, a full smile forming now. “Good, I’ll make sure to do it more often. You should get some rest, now,” he said in a soft tone.
“I’m not tired.” All she could think about was Ace’s corpse.
“You may not be tired, but you should at least lay down for a bit,” Lucian suggested slowly.
Cicada was dreaming again. This time she was a board the Everflame and Breeze looked to 10. She looked over the side to see the Anjou sector in the distance. This must have been the day they met James and River.
“Why are we heading to Anjou again?” Breeze looked up and asked Cicada.
“To find more members for our pirate crew!” Cicada responded cheerfully. This was back when Cicada and Breeze had just commandeered a ship. It was just the two of them sailing the seas.
“But then I might fall asleep.”, she whispered.
“Okay!” Breeze looked back out toward Anjou, “Why Anjou though?”
“Because,” Cicada rolled her eyes. She steered the boat closer to shore, “We’re more likely to find people that are willing to leave with us there.”
“Like those two boys on the coast?” Breeze pointed to the shore. Along the coast were two boys, one pale skin and the other dark. The pair were running away from the Inquisitors.
“Exactly like them!” Cicada spun the wheel. She ran down to the deck, “Breeze, man the helm I’ll get them aboard.”
“Is there a reason that you don’t want to sleep, Morrigan?” Lucian asked softly, frowning softly.
Cicada ran down and grabbed a rope once they were close enough to the boys she threw the rope over, “Climb up. We’ll help you!”
The dark skin boy looked sceptical however the pale boy almost immediately grabbed the rope and began climbing. The dark skin boy soon followed suit. They made it to the deck out of breath.
“Get us out of here Breeze!” Cicada yelled pulling the rope up.
“Got it Captain!” Breeze shouted back she spun the wheel away from the shore.
“Is there a reason that you don’t want to sleep, Morrigan?” Lucian asked softly, frowning softly.
“I only sleep every theee or four days. I don’t—— it’s the only way to avoid the nightmares.”
“Seriously? Morrigan, that’s very unhealthy for your mental health. That may be adding to the causes of your hallucinations,” Lucian said, rubbing at his jaw as he considered it.
“Lucian, I’d rather keep the nightmares in one part of the day. It’s either the day or the. night, I’m not doing both.” Her tone was stiff.
When they got away Cicada helped both boys to their feet, “I’m Captain Cicada of the Everflame and you two are?”
The pale skin, 10 year old, responded, “I’m River and this James.”
“Well River,” She turned to turned to the dark skinned 11 year old, “James. Welcome to the crew of the Everflame!”
Lucian exhaled slowly and nodded, seeing as how she seemed stubborn, and he didn’t want to argue. “Alright, I can’t force you.” But a little voice suggested that he dose her with something to knock her out, but he clenched his jaw, telling himself that it wouldn’t be right.
“Are you guys sailors?” James asked her, “Because aren’t you a little young.”
“No silly,” Breeze jumped down from the helm, “We’re pirates!”
“Pirates,” James looked even more sceptical now, “You two little girls are pirates.”
“Yes,” Cicada spoke before Breeze could say anything, “And if you have a problem with that you’ll be swimming with the sharks.”
“Thank you.” , she told him tightly, breaths forced as if she would rather stop breathing altogether.
Lucian ran his hand gently up and down her arm. “Mhm. Just try and calm down, everything is okay..”
“We’ll join your crew,” River spoke up.
“River!” James shouted at him, “I don’t know the first thing about being a pirate!”
“Well then your lucky I’m from Trieste,” River looked back at Cicada, “I can be your gunner.”
“What’s a gunner?” Cicada asked him.
“But Ace is dead. That’s another person I care about dead.”, she choked out, willing herself not to cry.
“I know, and I’m sorry..” Lucian soothed. He had no idea how to help. When he joined the crew, Ace had already left and been presumed dead. He never knew the boy personally, just heard about him. How was he supposed to help?
She wiped any tears that tried to spill over away, almost angrily, as if she couldn’t believe she had the nerve to cry. “He— yeah. He was like a big brother.”
Lucian gently hugged Morrigan, doing his best not to hurt her from the injury in her chest/stomach area. “I know, he seemed to mean a lot to the crew..”
Morrigan could only nod as tear after tear leaked out from her eyes, no longer turbulent and strong.
Lucian held her close to him, exhaling slowly. “It’s okay, you can let it all out..”
Morrigan has never felt safer, tucked away in Lucian’s arms. She gripped his shoulder with her functioning arm, silent tears pouring down her cheek.
Lucian rested his chin on the top of Morrigan’s head, rubbing her back gently.
