(Idk what to do…)
(Me neither.)
(I feel like the other relationships are way more touchy-feely than Kex/Janzie (Idek, whatever the ship name should be).)
(true true.)
Suddenly, a window opened a crack. Kenzie stared at it in shock, then glanced at Jax.
"Did that just…" she trailed off, looking back at the window.
Jax smiled and ran to it. He turned back to Kenzie, "you want to open it?"
A smile played on Kenzie's lips, and her eyes lit up. She walked over to the chair leg Jax had thrown earlier and picked it up, then made her way to Jax. Reaching up, she jammed the metal bar between the window and its frame, creating a lever. She pushed down, trying to open the window more, but with very little luck.
Swan thought for a moment. “What have your parents done to hurt you?”, she signed gently.
Briar’s eyes snapped and cracked with pain.. ”My Dad..he has PTSD from his service at war. He tends to lose control of his anger..and..he shot me once.”
(Woah.)
(Mm-hmm)
Holy——)
Swan froze, eyes wide in shock and horror. She turned her head to look at Briar. "What?!", she signed, fingers fumbling. "Where? Is he in jail?!"
“No..I haven’t told anyone until now..” Briar’s eyes filled with silent tears.
Swan pushed herself into sitting position, wrapping her arms around Briar and wishing she could comfort her verbally. Pulling away briefly, she signed. "Where did he shoot you?" Her hands trembled in rage, and Briar could see the fierce anger in her eyes.
😶
Briar pointed to her lower abdomen, her hand shaking. She screwed her eyes shut, remembering that terrible day like it had happened only moments ago.
“He drove me to the hospital—I had to get three surgeries in a row to get out all of the bullet fragments and repair the damaged tissues.”
Jax grabbed the chair leg and pulled down also. "Why won't this budge?!"
Kenzie sunk to the floor in defeat. "I don't know," she breathed. "Maybe they don't want us to leave. Maybe they're lonely or something…"
Swan lay her hands on top of Briar's trembling ones, eyes filling with sympathy towards Briar and anger towards her father. She opened her mouth to say something, but then remembered she couldn't. "I'm sorry."
“It’s okay..c-can I ask you a question..are you selectively mute..or were you mute at birth? You don’t have to answer it..” Briar looked down at their hands laid on top of one another and blushed deeply.
Swan slipped her hands out from under Briar's to sign: "I was born like this."
“Oh..” Briar still blushed with embarrassment, feeling that she had offended Swan.
Swan shook her head quickly. "I'm not offended." Her fingers trailed hesitantly in the air, as if she was going to say something else. "It's even worse, being born with it. Bullying. Gangs."
“Gangs..what the hell?!” Briar screamed, backing away her eyes wide.
Kenzie looked up at Jax. "Maybe we're not close enough, yet," she suggested. "What if we're supposed to get closer? Learn more about each other?"
