Avery sat, silently listening to Kaz and Vaughn's conversation. She didn't know what to do. What could she do? She was pretty badly injured, so it wasn't like she could do much.
(Bumping.)
"Yeah. Why?"
"I won't break it, just hand it to me." she said.
Dylan shifted his stance slightly, not quite sure whether he was about to make a mistake. Not only that, but Artemis scared him. Not in the way that a little kid is afraid of monsters.
The idea alone that she was a sentient robot freaked him out. Of all the things he's been through.
Eventually he relented and held out his phone for her to take.
Artemis downloaded the coordinates of her home. "There. I will be with you shortly." she said, walking off.
Dylan shivered and returned to the group.
"Mount up," he said, kneeling down to help Avery, "We're going with her. She's got medical supplies, and she doesn't seem particular about us. So we'll take what help we can."
Kaz rolled his eyes. “I’ve got Vaughn. I’ll follow you on my bike,” he said, a hint of protectiveness in his voice as he got up and went to help Vaughn up
Vaughn’s eyes flicked up to Dylan, seeing hesitant before nodding. He held onto Kaz’s arm to help pull himself up, grunting as he did so. He partly leaned against Kaz while he stood, one arm around Kaz’s shoulders while the other pressed against his wound.
“You alright? The bike’s just up that little hill over there,” Kaz said, giving Vaughn a worried look. “I’ve got painkillers too,” he added, just now remembering the bottle he usually kept with his bike
“I’ll be fine, and yes, painkillers sound amazing right now,” Vaughn murmured, a constant grimace on his face. He glanced around, watching his surrounding. He made a mental note of how his vision was blurred around the edges.
“Okay, come on,” Kaz said, walking slowly as he supported Vaughn while they walked. He probably would have just carried him, but the other man was a little heavier than him and he wasn’t that strong
Avery sighed and sat up, wincing as she did so.
"Okay, that's fine. As long as we don't die, I don't see how things could get much worse," she said.
"Alright, up you go, Darlin'," Dylan grunted as he hefted Avery up. He wasn't strong, but Avery was younger and lighter. It would've been romantic, if it weren't for the blood seeping through Dylan's makeshift dressing.
He laughed at that thought, perhaps a little too loudly.
(oops)
("Oops", what?)
"What? What're you laughing at?" Avery asked, wondering what in the world could be funny in this situation.
(Oops, I didn't check to see if you had responded when I did.)
Dylan chuckled as he made his way towards the car, "This is the… what? Third time? The third time I've dragged you out of a pinch? But I feel like I'm still in your debt somehow. Like I haven't done enough for you." Despite his words he had the largest grin on his face, " Of course, I could just be going crazy. Maybe I'm not as tough of heart as I thought. But…" He slipped Avery into the passenger side of the truck cab, "Still. I feel like maybe I need to do something more. Maybe a birthday present, or a date or something silly like that."
(Dylan's not going TOTALLY crazy. Just beginning to realize how hell-bent everything is. Also sorry answers are sparse, I work a job during summer that I don't get out of till 5. Don't wait up for me unless you absolutely have to. I don't want to be the reason this whole thing stops.)
(Lol. It's okay. I've got a job from 8 am to 3 pm some days, and other days I'm just super busy.)
"Sorry. I guess I'm a little accident-prone sometimes," Avery said as she leaned back against the seat, once again clutching at her side. "And you don't owe me anything. My birthday isn't until February, anyway. And while a date sounds nice, really nice, um, we're kinda in Africa and on a mission, so I'm not sure how that would work. Although, it might when we get back…"
(You know what seems like a really good idea right now?)
(Bumping this up to prevent losing a good moment forever. Also it appears I have forgotten how to spell.)
(You know what seems like a really good idea right now?)
(What???)
(I really want to know, now… What is it?!?)
(I wanna PM it to you, but can't. You added an ellipsis at the end of you sentence, so I want Dylan to cut her off, and revive a ship at the same time.)
(wink)
(I'm sure whatever it is will be great. Lol. Go ahead.
I think I know, but I'll let you "surprise" me.)
(I'm always too late… sighs)
