Rigel still didn’t -couldn’t- believe her. Trap trap trap trap trap. He hesistantly released his hold on his knife, then asked quietly, “Are you immune?”
Enlyn shrugged, "how should I know? Its not like I watched everyone I cared about die from it, then not be able to catch it myself and feel the pain they felt in their last agonising moments." Dark, but the bitter truth. She didn't really care if this person was a stranger she felt a need to let people know. After all she didn't want to suffer alone in her own mind, "and just an FYI that mask won't save you. The dieses can get in threw cuts, water intake…food intake."
Rigel paled, but didn’t remove the mask, “It’s better than nothing,” He grumbled. But at least she was immune. Rigel chewed on his lip some more, “What’s your name?” An alliance out here, maybe they could survive longer…
"Enlyn west," the last name was pointless but it was a memory to good to let fade away. "And yours?" She asked raising her eye brow again. Perhaps there was someone out here she'd be able to trust. After all, trust was hard to come by.
“Rigel Le’Dan.” He nodded with a small smile. She didn’t seem bad, and she was another human.
"Now if you'd be as so kind that kinfe at your waist is making me uneasy, if you'd be so to kinda remove your hand from it." It didn't really make her uneasy, seeing as she'd be able to pull her own knife in time…Probly. As long as she saw it coming. "And about that shelter. Do you want it or not? Its getting dark" she mentioned to the sky that was now a pale pink.
So it came to time. Rigel let his hand drop to his side and forced himself to relax and admit, “I need that shelter. Lead the way, please.” He watched Enlyn carefully, in the case she made a move to attack.
first time for everything I guess. No one ever wanted her to lead the way. Most of the time they'd just follow her directions or kindly decline. "Right. This way." She led him to one of the more intact buildings. "Your room sir" she joked thinking back to before, how hotels used to seem so magical.
“Why thank you, miss,” Rigel replied with a roll of his eyes. He had completely forgotten the possibility of a trap, “But in all seriousness, how dangerous is this place?” Rigel peeked around the building, looking for a good spot of hiding.
"Oh just about as dangerous as some where can get. Humans that will eat you. Animal's that'll eat you. Pretty much anything around here will eat you." Enlyn shrugged. She'd grown used to it, but if this guy was just passing threw he deffently wasn't used to it.
“I haven’t seen another human since the disease started. Other than you, of course,” Rigel added, slowly walking into the shelter. His hand had instinctually gone to his knife. He knew very well about the animals, though. Too well. He was on the run because and animal had caught his scent. And was tracking him, probably. He couldn’t take many chances, so he’d only stayed at places for one night.
"Well much like me, if they don't want to be seen you won't spot them. Unless of course you're really looking for someone." She watched him carefully, "so where were you holding up for the past few years? You don't seem like you've been out here the hole time. You're very jumpy."
Rigel scoffed, “Well, I’ve been everywhere. Across the country, actually. I don’t stay in the same place.” Rigel lifted up an abandoned piece of sheet metal and looked it over, careful not to cut himself. It be a good cover. He leaned it back against the wall and looked at Enlyn.
"Ah, so I assume you come from a softer part of the country then" Enlyn mocked not letting her eyes leave him. For all she knew Rigel was just acting to get her to let her guard down. She watched him looking over the sheet then heard a noise come from outside. Her head jerked in the direction of the noise and instantly she had an arrow knocked and ready to fire.
Rigel had his knife out and ready. Trap, she’s trapping me- or it could be the animals… He grabbed a tight hold on the sheet metal, ready to throw it and cause a distraction if needed.
"Enyln calm down" a figure emerged from the shadows. She'd made many enemies over the years but this man, he was he worst. "What do you want jack?" She spit the words out aiming her arrow at his chest her eyes narrowed.
Jack glared back his gaze shifting from Enlyn to Rigel. "Whos the new guy?" He asked ready for a fight.
This time, Rigel wasn’t caught off guard by the man’s appearance, unlike when he met Enlyn. Rigel gave chesire smile and dropped the sheet metal to the ground with a clatter, “Nice to finally meet you, Jack,” Rigel drawled, taking lazy steps forward and letting his stance become casual, “I’m surprised you haven’t heard of me. But, you know, it’s not like many people new I was coming.” Rigel made a lazy laugh.
Enlyn watched not letting her guard down. Jack was one of the most darngours people in the area she knew of. "Rigel," she hissed between clenched teeth. How stupid could this guy be?
Jack eyed Rigel, "so thats your name." His eyes narrowed shifting back to Enlyn. "I came to collect what you stole. And if you already ate it. I'll be taking you back with me."
Enlyn cocked her head confused, "and what exactly did I take?" Her voice a challenge all its own.
Jack pushed Rigel aside not really paying attention to him, and aimed his own bow at Enlyn. "You know exactly what you took."
Rigel was clearly offended by the man moving around him, “Ahh, so you really don’t know of me, then,” Faster than a flash of light, Rigel was behind the man, the knife at his neck and a the other holding the man in place. He whispered into Jack’s ear, “Well let me tell you about me. I haven’t had more than a night of rest in one place at a time. I evaded beasts and monster this world brought up. And,” Rigel turned so quiet he doubted Enlyn could hear, “I’m not afraid to kill. So tell me what you want and I’ll consider letting you leave here alive.”
Jack clenched his teeth, "my busins isn't with you." His eyes darted around the room, "so I'm guessing Enlyn hired a guard dog? Not bad"
Enlyn still had her bow at the ready but a smug grin crossed her face, "for the record he's not my guard dog. And in my opinion. You should be scared of him" thought she knew nothing of Rigel she was starting to daught he was weak.
Rigel chuckled quietly, “I’m no one’s dog. The lady is right though, you should be afraid considering I could slit your neck with a mere thought,” Rigel pressed the knife to the man’s neck for emphasis, leaving a small red cut. “So I think you do have business with me. Now do start talking, I would rather keep these clothes clean of the smell of blood.”
Jack let out a sigh, "I've been tracking Enlyn for a few days now and finally caught up. You'd be spurised at how many times I lost her trail she knows how to disappear." His eyes shifted back to Enlyn, "but I'm here cuz she stole something of mine and I want it back." His tone became poisones, "so Enlyn dear, where's my prisoner?"
"Free and outta the country by now. And I'm not like you. I don't eat people." Enlyn glared at Jack, "Rigel, let em' go." A bit of an accent snaking its way into her sentience.
“Ahh. Another cannibal, ay?” Rigel smiled, but didn’t let the man go. He asked in a deathly quiet voice, “How many have you eaten and killed so far?”
Enlyn glared thinking back to her old group, "well he's not the only one so if we don't let him go his friends will come looking for him" she lowered her bow and put her hands on her hips.
"Ah yes, my friends" jack said, "but if you must know. I've lost count." A smug grin on his face. Jack was what Enlyn would call a 'zombie' killing and eatting other people, but sadly he had a brain and she wasn't willing to snoop down to his level and kill someone.
Rigel made a maniac laugh, “Wrong answer,” The knife went through too easily, but Rigel didn’t care as he let Jack fall, choking on his blood. Rigel stepped away, blood on his hands. It was enough to attract animals. He frowned at his hands and walked towards the exit, “Nice meeting ya, Enlyn, but looks like I’ll need to be out tonight. Sorry for bringing trouble to you door.”
