"That's not a person."
Now Mike looked annoyed. "Who are you to talk, huh? She may not be human, but she is a person, experimental or no. She's been through hell, give her some respect."
"And you're saying this because you know her so well?" Asura challenged, stepping toward Mike. "We might have found her in a weakened state, but that doesn't mean that she is a good, trustworthy person."
He didn't flinch. "I'm not saying I know one way or the other. But I'm not going to treat her like a monster until she proves she is one."
"That is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard. She could hurt or kill us. We shouldn't trust her until she proves that she can be trusted."
"She's a small, sick girl that happens to drink blood. I'm a full-grown, fully trained, morally dubious mercenary that kills giant man-eaters for money. You trusted me with your treacherous plans easily enough."
"I at least had talks with you first, and I still don't trust you completely."
Mike threw up his hands. "Whatever. I forgot you're a higher being, so you don't have to worry about making friends and caring for others. But if you haven't got anything civil to say to Red, then maybe you should just leave her alone."
(Sorry Jen, no hard feelings)
(It's fine lol, this is pretty interesting)
Asura clenched his fists, glaring at Mike. "I care about a lot of people." He then gestured to Red. "But I have no reason to blindly give her my trust or my respect. We are not bringing her along."
Mike's face stayed impassive. "I guess I can't fight you on this, since you're the one paying me." He turned away and went to look out the window. "But I want to warn you that these days, your attitude ain't gonna fly with most people. It's better to form alliances than rivalries."
"Yeah, wanting to fight everyone, especially in this town, will probably tick off more than a few people."
"Speaking of," Mike said, "You said you know where Zoe's at now?"
"Yup." Pluto opened the folder and set it on the table. It held a bunch of papers detailing Zoe, and on the top of the pile was a map with a red dot on it, with "bingo" written with an arrow to the dot. "Huh. Warehouse junction across town. Should be in the process of being made into a new machine shop. So abandoned, probably."
"Makes sense. Know anything about the area?"
"Eh, not much to know. I've had to deal with a few ghosts in that area because there was a prison there about 100 years ago. Now it's just been sitting while the shop company re-purposes the warehouses. Might be a bit dangerous because it's a construction zone, otherwise we should be good."
"All right. We should still probably do some scouting to see if she's added any extra defenses or traps."
"Probably. For as long as I've been tracking her she's been acting relatively human unless she's been eating people, but lately she's been acting more like an animal. Might make her a bit more dangerous."
"I'll keep that in mind. By the way, do regular weapons like bullets and blades work on her? I know you're going to do the killing, but I'll need to know how to defend myself."
"Yeah, as far as I'm aware regular stuff should work. But, just in case." Pluto materialized a small selection of black and silver weapons, some with strange glpyhs on them. "These are a just in case type weapon, since they might drain your energy a bit. But, they're guaranteed to work on any creature to ever show its face on this planet. So, pick your poison."
Mike picked out a simple clip-point hunting knife and hefted it. "Thanks."
The other weapons fizzled. "No problem."
(the others kinda vanished and we're probably gonna need them for this next part. should we pause to wait for them?)
(Sure thing)
(i'm back but Jensen has art this period so idk)
