"And don't think you're off the hook, young lady." Mazati caught her glance with a cruel smile. "That's lunch detention for your sass."

Well, that was better than he expected. Lloyd would say she got off easy, but he'd hate to have the same punishment. Not for what it is, the punishment really wouldn't be that bad in and of itself, but he hated being in trouble at school. Or really anywhere. He always tried to be on the good side of his authorities.

Most people would consider anyone who even mentioned themselves 'an angel' to be goodhearted and kind, but most of the angel kids at Sanctuary high were pretty stuck up. The humans practically worshipped up, drew our wings on everything, thought us benevolent servants of humanity. But there were only a few goods. The truth was that nobody is born good, you live up to it. I tried, but I didn't consider most people to be worth my undying kindness as most people dissed me as a hybrid anyway. The teachers didn't count as particularly kind unless they were one of a rare handful that actually respected mixed kids. Jupiter was pretty much the only person I talked to, unless somebody approached me first.
Once class was over, I meet Jupiter in the Main Hall courtyard, by a crying angel staue over a patch of red roses. Our spot.
"Hey, Eugene." He smiled, looking a hell of a lot better than last night.
"What's up, Jupiter Allen?" I return his smile and sit down next to him. His veins her nowhere near greying, which meant he'd recently fed. As in, minutes ago.
"Oh was Doctor Potato's Class?" He asks, looking a little skeptically at my ugg boots and lack of trying with the clothes today. "You look like shit."
"Oh, thanks." I smack his arm. "And I have lunch detention."
"Hey, Eugene!" Myra said, waving.
Lloyd gathered his books when the bell rang and pulled it over his shoulder, walking out into the hallways quietly. He still didn't know exactly what had happened earlier, with the girl falling on top of him from the ceiling. They hadn't really had time to introduce themselves or explain anything, so he was fairly confused.
I wave back. "Hey, you."
I look back over my shoulder and catch the glance of Lloyd, seeing the green cloud of apprehension floating behind him as he looked at Myra, and motioned for him to come over. Myra and Lloyd were some of the rare nice kids.
Orion jogged out of the classroom, meeting a group of other shifters in the courtyard. The only way that you could tell that he was different was his staggering height, being a few inches taller than the other boys. He laughed and joked with them, showing off what he could do. He quickly would shift into an overly large wolf, making them shout and laugh before shifting back. These were the people who made him feel like a normal shifter and not some rare breed of one.
Eugene seemed to be calling him over, so Lloyd walked towards her and whoever was with her. "Hello, Eugene. Do you need something?" He adjusted the strap of his heavy bag so it wasn't hurting his shoulder so much.
"No, that's all right I just wanted you to meet my friend Myra here! Myra, this is Lloyd."
"Oh! Hello, I don't believe we ever properly introduced ourselves. I'm Lloyd. Lloyd Windsor, pleasure to make your acquaintance. I-I mean, nice to meet you? What's the normal thing to say?" Lloyd asked awkwardly. He sort of used… different vocabulary than most. It could confuse people sometimes.
Orion jogged across the law with his group, whooping and hollering. He jokingly shoved one of the tallest male shifters and they eventually fell back into the grass, kicking and punching each other while the others shouted bets. They eventually agreed on it being a tie and continued messing around with the others. Shifters were known for their witty, prankster like personalities. A female friend jumped up onto Orion, laughing as she tried to drag him down in a chokehold.

Joan stumbled outside, skin pale and legs weak from the lack of water. She blinked, beads of sweat forming in her forehead as her gaze became unfocused. Seeing a group of people her age, she jogged shakily over. “Hi.”, she said to one in an emerald knit sweater. “Do—Do you know which way the lake is? I’m new here, and a bit disoriented.”
(does The school have a lake for the mermaids and stuff?)
"Yeah, just go over to the map over there, you'll find it."
Orion saw the girl from yesterday across the courtyard and excused himself from the group and jogged over to her. She was in the area that angels had mainly claimed, but he was confident that none of them would try anything with him. He tapped her on the shoulder, grinning. “Hey, Eugene.”
Lloyd greeted the new arrival politely, but otherwise stayed silent.
Joan nodded. “Thanks.” She coughed, throat dry, and jogged over to the map.
