Lea hung around, watching the woman on the phone, talking to the other end with the same anger as before. She didn't dare step any closer, but hovered where she was.
Jessie hung up the phone, sighing with an annoyed tone. She chugged the rest of her coffee, which was now cold enough to do so, and chucked it into a bin with force.
Lea's eyes widened in mild fear, but she still didn't move. She backed up slightly, just around the corner, to make it look as though she'd just arrived. Nothing worse than a creepy stalker.
So once more, the rounded the corner, stepping harder than usual so she'd be heard if not seen.
(ok so i just realised that 'sighing' somehow got autocorrected to 'digging'….?)
Jessie closed her eyes while sighing, leaning against the wall. She was annoyed, but it was something she had to do. Roman Pierre was a bad guy, and she was the only one who could dispose of him.
(I swear to god autocorrect will be the death of me)
This time around, Jesse's eyes were closed. Silently frustrated, Lea cleared her throat and walked closer to her, setting a warm smile on her face.
Jessie started to run over their plan in her head. It was detailed, and she had to time everything perfectly.
Closer.
They were only a few feet away now, but Jesse was so lost in thought that she still hadn't looked up and noticed Lea. So the latter walked, opting for a casual 'Oh it's you!' for the moment they collided.
Jessie got another phone call, but this time she wasn't angry at the caller. She answered the call, her hair falling in front of her face as she looked at her feet. She listened quietly and calmly to whoever was talking to her, rarely saying anything save for a few sentences in what sounded like Greek or French. Then the call ended.
The language sounded familiar to Lea, so she guessed it was French.
She watched Jesse talking, calmly this time, looking peaceful and quiet. It was a very different look on her, one that touched slightly at Lea's wide open heart.
She waited the call out, silent and still.
Jessie started to walk off, not seeing Lea due to her hair blocking the way. She had calmed down after that call, but walking also helped. It cleared her head, and it took her mind off her job for that night.
Still nothing. Lea stood awkwardly, debating what to do.
"Hey," she called softly, deciding on a quiet approach.
Jessie heard a soft whisper, but she figured it was for someone else. No one ever talked to her on the streets: her appearance made her seem too intimidating.
Elle est sourde, en fait. (So she's deaf, then.)
"Hey!" Lea called slightly louder, frustration growing slightly.
This made Jessie look up. She glanced around, but not seeing anyone, she kept walking. She didn't think to look behind her.
"Jesse!" She sped up slightly, resolving to tap her on the shoudler if it was necessary.
Jessie turned around, surprised to hear her name. "Oh, sorry. I thought you might have been talking to someone else."
(btw it's jessie not jesse)
(Oh I'm sorry!)
"No, just you. Fancy bumping into you again," Lea smiled, walking up to her, feeling flushed now that they were talking.
"Yeah, fancy," Jessie replied awkwardly. She had to admit: this was weird. If she'd seen this woman again, she probably wouldn't have done anything. Yet, this stranger was engaging in conversation.
She could tell Jessie wasn't quite at ease, but she'd tried so hard to get her attention that she wasn't about to let it go now.
"You're walking that way, right?" Lea asked, indicating the way they were both headed.
"Uh, yeah. But where I'm going is quite close by, so…" She trailed off.
"Good, so you can shake me off quickly enough," Lea joked, walking past Jessie and on to where they were going.
An awkward smile played on Jessie's lips, but she walked alongside Lea anyway.
They walked for a second in silence, but Lea didn't let it hang around.
"I was thinking about you as I left. Your job sounds real mysterious."
"Yeah, well. I can't tell you about it. Simple as that. But it's not what you're probably thinking."
"Wasn't expecting you to. Besides, unless you're an FBI agent, you're right that it isn't what I was thinking," Lea told Jessie with a laugh.
