Vera!
(Kk)
After a split second of indecision, Vera had declined the invitation, remembering her mother’s last words to her, and found herself alone in the parking lot. When the guy from the arcade asked her if.dhe needed a ride home, shivers raced up and down her spine. you can’t trust him, Vera! Who knows what he wants!, her practical side yelled at her, but she ignored it (stupidly), answering with the affirmative.
"Where do you want me to take you?"
(BRB)
Vera hesitated. All she had to do was give Eryon’s address, or even better, tell him that she could get home in her own, but for some reason, she didn’t. Tonight she had done things that she wouldn’t have even considered two moths ago, when she was the shy girl who sat in the corner doodling, who never broke the rules. But her mother's death had changed her, making her more reckless, finding fun in breaking both the rules and the law. Since then, she’d sampled weed, filched and drank beer a number of times, run away 7 times from her hated adoptive parents until they sent her back to a foster home, tried cigarettes only to find that they were disgusting, and a number of other things. Compared to some people, this was nothing. For Vera, however, this was like changing personalities completely. She opened her mouth to respond the the (admittedly cute) guy, surprising even herself when she said this: “You choose.” What the hell are you doing Vera?!, her brain shouted at her. Youre telling some random guy on the street to take you wherever he wants? Are you that idiotic?! Vera ignored it. She was just going to end up with some horrible adoptive family again anyways. Might as well take the risk and have a little fun.
She just didn’t care anymore.
Akushi pulled up to his apartment and hopped out if the Jeep. He walked around to find Eryon and he hooked his arm around her neck "I warn you, my pup is a jumper."
Tay raised his eyebrows, "Really? Do you want to go eat some cinnamon rolls? I know where the best ones are sold." he smiled, and opened the car door for the girl, "Speaking of which, what's your name?"
“Vera.”, she replied, not being able to resist a smile at this show of politeness. “And cinnamon rolls sounds great.”
"My name is Tae-Min, but people call me Tay. I'm Korean, in case you haven't noticed." Tay pointed to his face and laughed. He opened the shotgun seat and motioned for her to get in.
A rush of pleasure went through her at Tay’s gesture. He’s so polite! Cute too., she thought to herself. “Hi, Tay.”, she laughed, getting in. “And I’m part Japanese, if you can’t tell.”, she grinned, indicating to her eyes.
"Birds of a feather flock together!" Tay reddened, "Y'know, we're both Asian, and..um..it's funny..so..never mind." he got into the drivers seat of his Renault Caravelle and started the ignition, causing the radio to start playing "What a Wonderful World." by Louis Armstrong. Tay smiled, "It's a good song."
The atmosphere of the car, as well as the music, put Vera at ease. “It is.”, Vera agreed.”What other music do you like?”, she asked him.
Tay fiddled with the wheel, tapping his fingers to the song, "I like almost everything, but I have a big thing for K-pop and French music. Also, my recent music craze is the song, "Skinny Love" by Birdy."
“Never heard of it.”, Vera grinned. “Do you usually take strange girls for rides in the middle of the night?“, she asked playfully.
Tay smiled, keeping his eyes on the road, "Not usually, I guess that I was just holding out for you." he pressed the brake as the light went red, "I could send you the song. But, um..I don't have your email or phone number."
Was that last bit flirting? Vera found herself giving him her number as she settled back in the comfy seat, absorbing little details about him as she usually did with people she’d just met. He had soft eyes, with a depth to them. So far, he had acted pretty sweet, collected, friendly. “Promise to stay quiet about what you saw tonight?”
"Former Boy scout's honor." he pressed three fingers to his chest and allowed a small glance at Vera before he turned his eyes back to the road.
Heat rose to Veta’s cheeks, the blush not quite blooming up to the surface as she sighed in relief. “Thanks Tay. It’s my first day staying with Eryon. It would suck to get caught so early.”
"Eryon. I have her in Science." Tay smiled, "I never really liked her. I mean, I'm tame."
Vera chuckled lightly. “She’s a pretty wild. A rebel. Though I guess I’m one too since I came along with her and Akushi on this crazy little sneak-out?“
"Opposites attract, I guess?"
Attract. “I guess. Though I admit this while rebel thing is new to me.” She smiled nostalgically, fiddling with her mother’s gold dangly rose earrings. It probably hasn’t been the best idea to bring them along, but Vera had wanted to have a part of her mother with her. Sorry mom., she though. You probably wouldn’t approve of this. I miss you. She forced down a tear.
"I have to get into a good university, being a rebel won't do that for me." Tay's eyes had a glossy, dreamy haze cast over them, "I'm gonna be an architect and a photographer and a part-time psychology professor."
