Skye nodded, "I'll check it out tonight, Septima can you hunt around the castle again?
Skye nodded, "I'll check it out tonight, Septima can you hunt around the castle again?
"Of course. I'll be sure to report back, and I can tell you the optimal way to get in," Septima said.
Skye smiled, "Sounds perfect. Arthur you'll be lookout."
(Haha, this perfectly sets up something I want to do)
Septima nodded. "I'll be on my way, then. Be back soon, I hope."
(intrigue)
Arthur nodded, "Good luck!"
(It's supposed to be sort of funny, but we'll see if I can actually write it when it's time.)
Septima made her way out the door and into the courtyard, towards the dark corner where the main entrance to the prison had been. She didn't go exactly in front of it, trying to avoid being seen by anyone. Septima skirted the edge of the building, looking for gaps in the brick, tunnels or anything else that might mean a way in that wouldn't get her or Skye caught.
She found one side that had a stone block loose. After checking behind her, she pulled the large chunk of stone from the wall, and peered in to find a crudely-dug tunnel, which looked like it had been someone's escape route.
Skye talked a few things over with Arthur, in hopes that Septima would find something he could use.
Septima removed another brick below the first one and started to wander into the tunnel, which would've been really cramped if not for her smaller size.
A voice sounded from behind her.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?"
Septima startled, jumping really hard as she began to turn around. A guard stood next to the bricks she had set on the ground. She walked a little closer to gauge the situation and how many people might be around. It was just him.
"Nothing. You didn't see anythin-"
Septima, as she gestured while talking, felt a jolt of magic leave her fingertips. A bright beam of light flashed across the man's face, blinding him.
"Oh gods, damn it all…" she murmured.
He opened his mouth to shout, but Septima was quick on her feet from there on out. She clasped a hand over his mouth and dragged him into the tunnel, even though he fought the whole way. Septima slammed the guy face-down in the dirt and placed a foot on the back of his head.
"Now, we can go about this a couple of ways," Septima said, dragging the man a little further back into the shadows, "Either you tell me everything you know about this prison and what they're doing in there, as well as the best way in, or you get to die an extremely painful death."
(Okay, so it was going to be funnier, with her accidentally killing him and having to hide a body, but this seems a little more practical.)
(noice…)
Skye paced the room, anxious as he waited for Septima to come back.
Septima drew out a knife from her belt. She sat down on the guard's back to keep him from moving and lifted up his head, placing the flat of the blade against his lips as a warning not to cry out.
"I-I can't see! What did you do?" he whimpered.
Septima sighed. "You know what you're doing is wrong. So why?"
"You think I get paid enough to keep those kinds of secrets?"
Septima laughed. "Fair enough. Then how do we get in there to find that stuff out?"
"I'm not sure. There are a few entrances, but most of them are higher-traffic than what you want, I'm sure. Where does this tunnel lead?"
"I'm assuming the inside of a cell," Septima said, "Not what I wanted, but if it's the only way, then we'll figure it out."
Skye? Arthur? I'm in something of a predicament over here. I'm alright, but I might need some advice, Septima thought, trying to see if the link still worked.
Skye immediately reacted, What happened? Are you alright? he asked worriedly.
I said I'm fine, she replied calmly, I got caught, but there was only one guy, and I have him under control, but I don't know what to do with him. He also may be permanently be blind now, so…
Lovely.. thought Skye, Uhm… Can you get info out of him?
He seems to be lower-level, judging by his clothes and what he doesn't know. I don't think he's playing dumb either. He's being nice and cooperative since I have a knife near his face. I'll see what else I can get out of him. It might not be much. But on the bright side, I found a tunnel that leads into the prison. However, it might just go into a cell," Septima thought back, *I think I can get some infiltration ideas from this guy, but motives will most likely be left a mystery.
She dragged the knife closer to his throat.
"So how much more can you help me?"
"W-what do you want?"
"Well, my people are trapped and being used for their life auras. I want them out, and I want to know why this is being done en masse. You got an answer for me there?"
"No, but I'll help you. I have a family to take care of. I just do this job for money, you know? I don't really even understand what life aura is, if I'm being honest. I mostly run patrols. I don't guard the prison, and I don't know what all happens down there, but I can maybe get you in."
"Good. I'll be counting on you, and if you do this right, I can try to make sure you get to your family safely."
Skye used his powers to spy on the conversation, nodding thoughtfully as he relayed it to Arthur. I think we can work with this, see what he can tell you about that plan to get in.
Right. On it.
"So, show me a way in," Septima demanded.
"Depends… If you can figure out what's down that tunnel, that might actually be your best option."
"What if it leads to a cell?"
"If you'll restore my eyes, I can go in and let you out of the cell."
Septima thought about it. That sounded like a good plan, except maybe for the part about restoring his vision. She didn't know how bad the damage was, especially considering she hadn't meant to do it in the first place.
Can you restore his eyesight? asked Skye, still listening in.
Septima sighed. I don't know what I did. It just kind of came out of nowhere. I might be able to, depending on whether it burned or was a very strong light illusion. He startled me and I just… panicked.
Septima snapped her fingers to get a small glow going in the air around her so she could see. She looked into the guy's eyes. They were strangely cloudy, but there was no sign of any burns.
If you can't fix it then we'll send Arthur down to see what he can do. said Skye.
No, let’s not risk that. I can do it, Septima replied, trying to sound confident, I don’t think they’re burns. His eyes are swimming with wisps of magic. If I did that, I can reverse it. One problem though… I can’t guarantee he won’t sell us out if we let him loose.
Alright, well.. if he does try to sell us out, then I'll deal with it.. he said, his tone leaving no room for questions.
Could you link him to your thoughts? Septima asked, If he has some sort of intent like that, you can at least be aware.
Septima let a buzzing glow form on her other hand as she brushed it over the man’s eyes.
He blinked a few times and sat upright.
“Wait, did that work?” she whispered.
“Everything is still very hazy, but I can see some light at least.”
That's pretty much what I'm doing.. said Skye.
Okay, good. Just keep an eye out.
“Stay here,” Septima said, “I’m going to check this out.”
She crept forwards through the tunnel, on her hands and knees. A tiny glow illuminated the area immediately in front of her.
The tunnel suddenly sloped downwards, But Septima was able to maintain her balance and follow it.
She ended up looking into the face of a stone wall. She touched the side of the bricks, but they were sealed- cemented over by mortar. She sighed and tried to figure out how to see what was on the other side without destroying the wall or causing any suspicion.
Skye spied through her vision, resting his consciousness just behind hers.
