She nodded with a small smile heading into the store.
She nodded with a small smile heading into the store.
Zeke followed behind, a similar expression on his face. He paused to retrieve a small list in his pocket, then glanced at the carts. Then at the list. Back to the carts. "Ehh, we probably don't need one," he said, waving a hand in an unconcerned manner. He grabbed a cart. "Let's see, Ian wants almonds, bananas and…" He squinted at the awful handwriting, courtesy of Donnie. "I think that says applesauce, so let's just go with that… Why does Sam want four cases of Red Bull? Oh, they're on sale. In that case… Rae, you don't happen to have a pen I could borrow?" he asked distractedly, glancing up from deciphering the list only to make eye contact with a stranger ten feet away. He watched like a deer in headlights as the flash momentarily blinded him, and the person turned on their heel and ran further into the store. "Sh*t," he cussed under his breath, immediately looking to Rae to see if she'd noticed.
Rae smled nervously at Zeke "ptobally wasn't a fan.
"That's what I'm worried about," he told her, forehead creasing in worry. "Should we try and find them?" Most fans he'd run into in the past were considerate and mindful of his and the rest of Wish We Were's privacy, but he knew Minor Murders had a larger fanbase, and more issues with the paparazzi as a whole. If word got out that they were together, and it'd be an easy conclusion to make, based on the fact that they had still been holding hands when the picture was taken, he feared the reactions of their respective bands. "Maybe we can convince them not to post the photo?"
"you know or we could break up" she said.
Zeke looked a little taken aback. "Like…break up, break up or 'break up'?" he asked, making air quotes the third time he said it.
"break up break up" she said.
His heart fell, but he could see where she was coming from. Even though it wasn't a personal thing (he hoped), he still couldn't help but take it the wrong way. He shoved the self-deprecating thoughts aside and gripped the handle of the shopping cart a little harder. "If you think that's the best solution…then alright. But what if we're jumping to conclusions? I mean…maybe they just…really wanted a picture of, you know…the cart?" he suggested weakly, before a buzzing from his phone pulled his attention. His blood turned cold as he examined the notifications, face going white when he saw the subject. He cursed again quietly and tilted the screen so she could see. "What are we going to tell the bands?" he questioned, voice nearly breaking on the last word.
"The truth" she said with a sigh.
"The truth as in…'Hey guys, remember how we supposedly hate each other? Well, we've actually been dating for the past three weeks in secret, and we wouldn't be telling you know except we sorta got busted by a fan. And then we may or may not have broken up, but Zeke's a dumb*ss and can't figure it out.' That truth?" He groaned mostly to himself, but finally sighed and nodded. "You're right, though. As per usual… What do you think the chances are of breaking it to them softly over a meal of Panda Express?" he asked hopefully, but another notification popped up on his phone. A message from Ian.
Ian: you've got a lot to explain, believe me, but i figured i'd warn you first: sam's p*ssed off like you wouldn't believe
Attached was a screenshot of someone's Twitter, including the photo of them from five minutes ago. "Nevermind," Zeke mumbled dejectedly. He quickly silenced his phone as another text message appeared, knowing it was Sam, but not giving either Rae or himself a chance to read it.
"D-do you wanna break up" she asked.
"No!" he rushed out. "Do…do you?" he asked tentatively.
She shooke her head "No".
Zeke ran a hand through his hair, the relief on his face evident. "Thank God," he breathed. "Wait, so why did you suggest it then?" he asked in confusion.
"i'm the soultioner of the band" she said shyly.
"I can see that," Zeke laughed shakily. "Okay, so… Shopping another time? I doubt Red Bull and other healthy stuff are more important than this…" he trailed off.
"Im dead " she said looking at her phone and reading text messages from her band.
"Do you want to tell them together?" he asked gently, grocery list forgotten as he crumbled it up and stuffed it in his pocket.
"Might as well Minor Murders are waiting at the studio".
Zeke took a steadying breath and held a hand out, unsure if she'd take it after what had just happened. What was the worst that could happen?
rae grabbed his hand lacing her fingers.
He sighed and gave her a reluctant smile, eyes grateful. "Alright, let's get this over with," he mumbled, shoving the cart with his free hand until it rolled into place with the others. He held the door for her on the way out, glancing back just in time to see the same fan staring at them from halfway behind a shelf. Rolling his eyes, he just kept walking, occasionally squeezing Rae's hand for comfort.
Rae smiled as she approached the studio. she walked inside to the practice room where both teams were arguing with eaachother.
Zeke cleared his throat hesitantly, announcing their presence. He deliberated on whether they should keep their hands intertwined, but left the decision to Rae. It wasn't as if they didn't already know. "Zeke!" Donnie shouted, crossing his arms. "Great," the blue haired singer mumbled to himself. "Zeke I swear to all things holy—are you holding her hand??" Sam demanded, stepping closer angrily.
Rory briar and dawn glared at Rae and she began to let go of his hand.
