When Zeke reached the roof, he was quick to lean back over and offer Rae a hand. He straightened and stood up after, brushing his hoodie clean of any dirt, and finally asked, "What about you? Wouldn't you rather be with your friends, instead of the singer of a rival band that's just talked you up onto a roof?" He gave her a lopsided smile, waiting expectantly.
She kissed him quickly ¨I´d rather be with you¨,
Maybe not that expectantly. Still, he couldn't deny that he enjoyed it. Before he could really lean into the kiss, though, she was gone, speaking the words he'd wanted to hear. Zeke cleared his throat, a large smile plastered on his face, and said, "Well, now that we have that established…" He reached for one of his pockets, pulling out a safety pin and giving a mischievous look towards the roof maintenance door. It took him a few tries, but before long he had the door opened for the two of them. "I figured it'd be nicer to sit in here, without, you know, bid poo everywhere. Kinda kills the mood."
Rae laughed as she walked inside the door.
He stepped behind her for another backwards hug, leaning against the wall and slowly sliding down it so that she was sitting in front of him. "Is this cool?" he asked, making sure she wasn't uncomfortable.
¨she nodded leaning back into him.
"Awesome, 'cause watch, I have it all figured out!" he told her enthusiastically, again reaching into his pocket for a few more things, including a slightly deformed tealight, a lighter and a deck of cards that honestly shouldn't have fit as well as it did. He laid it all out the the side and wrapped his arms around her for a minute, just enjoying being in her presence. "I know it isn't exactly super romantic, but I thought it could be fun," he confessed.
she reached up kissing his cheek. ¨it´s perfect¨.
Zeke grinned and turned to repeat the action, then removed an arm to try and light the candle. He got it eventually, and even though it didn't really provide much light, it was still pretty. He figured they could probably see enough with just the streetlight, but it was the thought that counted. Or so he told himself, though he still worried things weren't enough. That's when he remembered that he had some leftover candy, and so he offered a few Starburst to Rae.
she popped a few candies in her mouth then layed down putting her head in zeke´s lap.
He laughed softly and combed through her hair with his fingers, his head resting against the wall as he stared out the open door. It was quiet for a moment, and then his voice interrupted the comfortable silence. "What do you think would happen? If they found out about us?"
¨They´d probally hate us they hate each other were supposed to hate each other¨ she said.
He hummed. "I think you're probably right…" he trailed off, back to studying Rae's face. He couldn't imagine ever hating her as he pretended to in front of the bands. "Who will be my Montague now, to this broken Capulet? How, how, how if not for you?" he sung quietly to her, the lyric randomly entering his thoughts. "Weird," he said after a moment. "I don't actually remember what song that's from." Zeke gave a sheepish smile, shrugging when she looked at him.
¨she closed her eyes. ¨Toy soilders¨ she said simply/
He stared blankly, then it seemed to click. "Right," he responded quietly. "I dunno, I kinda relate to it a bit. But see? This is why you complete me. I doubt I'd even remember the names of my own songs if I didn't sing them every day." His tone wasn't serious, but there was an element of honesty in his voice that was easy to detect. Instead of giving her the chance to remark on it, he stretched a little and asked, "So, do you know how to play war?"
she nodded sitting up getting on her knees she kissed Zeke.
This time there was nothing stopping him from leaning into it, gently pressing her closer with a hand on the small of her back. When he broke away, his breathing was a little heavier, but he smiled and peered at her through his bangs. "Not quite what I meant, but it works," he said breathlessly.
she smiled up at him moving her platnium blonde hair from her face.
He kissed her again, this time a brief peck on her forehead, and patted the ground besides him, already reaching for the deck of cards. "You don't happen to know how to shuffle?" he wondered aloud. "'Cause I kinda suck at it."
she looked at her phone ¨crap crap crap¨ she said.
He paused mid reach, putting a steadying hand on Rae's shoulder instead. "What is it?" he asked, making no effort to hide the concern in his voice.
"We have that party tonight"" she said.
"Crap, you're right! Damn it," he sighed, running his fingers through his blue fringe in annoyance. "Any chance we could cancel?" he asked without hope.
she shooke her head "no".
He made a long, drawn out hnnn, then nodded. "Alright," he conceded. "Guess it's time to go back to 'hating' each other?" he asked, making air quotes and trying for a smile.
