From there, Thalia and Rvan met up with the rest of the fire protégés and headed back to there training grounds. At the training grounds, everyone went back to there own rooms to go to sleep. It was getting late after all. Thalia apologized to Rvan for getting so angry before and walked off to her room. Rvan was alone at the training grounds. However, Rvan heed Draco’s hushed voice coming from behind a door in the training grounds.
Rvan was walking to his room, but then a voice came out of the silence. He turned into a mere shadow on the wall (out of fear). Who was out at this time of night?
“Well, how much money do they want then because I’m sure I could pay it in double.” Draco said into his phone.
Rvan basically stopped breathing. Was this what Skylar had warned him about? His heart jerked to a panicked halt, then furiously started again ( that's his shadows lookin out for him **wipes tear from eye**) Was it really true? If Draco was paying someone… A bribe… If Rvan had been in solid form, he would have paled. He was being used.
Draco sighed and said, “Have you told Skylar about any of this?” There was a long pause. “I sup pose you are right. Any knowledge of that power should probably be kept between us…”
Rvan crept into the doorway (as a shadow) hopelessly. Draco was talking on the phone to someone, pinching his nose. Probably frustrated (Rvan's thinking this mockingly) that he'd have to pay money to make the fire win in the arena. It was complete slavery. And Rvan decided he didn't want to hear any more of it. He'd had a long enough day after Thalia and now this. Utter betrayal. Rvan crept into his room, locked the door and didn't even bother to change before hitting his mattress.
(The next morning)
Rvan woke up and took a long cold shower. He changed finally then looked out the window. He opened it and got out the sit on the ledge, dangling five stories high. He sucked in the morning air. Rvan made his decision. He wasn't going to train for them. Rvan wouldn't just comply to be a slave. He would fight back with all he had.
(Meanwhile from Kyle's perspective)
They were waiting out in the training grounds for Rvan. He hadn't come out of his room yet. Thalia seemed kind of concerned (b/c she thinks Rvan is taking his time bc of her incident with Skylar last night). Kyle tried to remember that good pickup line from the last book he read, but word kinda failed him when Skylar was involved.
“Maybe I should check on him?” Thalia asked Kyle between nail bites.
Kyle jumped out of his thoughts, "I don't know… What if he's in the shower?"
Thalia began to pace a little. “He probably doesn’t want anything to do with me after what happened yesterday.” Thalia mumbled sadly.
Kyle started at the chance to be able to comfort her, "What happened yesterday?"
Thalia sighed. “When I found Rvan, Skylar Serideen was standing right next to him. I thought after all of these years I be able to handle myself around her, but as soon as I saw her I was back at the court case again…” Thalia shook her head.
(Does Kyle know about the court case?)
(He doesn’t know all of the deets, but he knows the Serideen family accused Thalia’s mother and father (former maid and butler to the Serideen home) of stealing from them and had them thrown in jail. He also knows that Thalia morphed for the first time after the court case and burned several innocents to ashes (one of the innocents had been one of Skylar’s close friends)
(A simple yes or no would have been fine lol)
Kyle thought of all the things he could have said, 'It's not your fault', 'no, Thalia, I am so sorry', or 'The Serideens should be burnt alive for what they'd done', but all that came out of his mouth was, “I doubt Rvan would be taking so long because of that."
”I just wish I could be normal and friendly and happy. Then, Rvan would feel scared of me. I wish I could get rid of all of that rage, but I feel the more I keep inside of me the more it burns and burns and—“ Thalia stopped her self and took a deep breath. “I’m sorry I am loading all of this on you, Kyle. I really shouldn’t act like this.”
Kyle nearly frothed at the mouth. This was a pristine perfect opportunity to talk to Thalia, "No! (Sharp) I mean uh, no, (softer) Thalia, you can talk to me. You shouldn't put it all on yourself. You know, we could even have lunch today if you wanted-“
Draco came out of his office, "Hey, where's Rvan?"
“In his room,” Thalia mumbled.
“Do you know why that is, Thalia?” Draco asked with a silent accusation.
