I smile at Kade's compliment as his eyes wander around the walls, gradually getting comfortable in the space.
"What are the flowers even for?" I tilt my head to the side in a bit of a disappointed reminder as I sigh lightly.
"They're from my aunt's boyfriend. She has two adult kids, a teenage kid, and a young child, yet she still doesn't have a husband."
I look over at the vase and hold my hand up to it, feeling the ceramic as I look over at Kade.
"I'm sorry it's going to such a lost cause. It should become something more grand, especially coming from you."
I say with a bit of a smile crawling up the corners of my mouth as I straighten up my poster, feeling a bit better after trying to rid the thought of my aunt and her hundredth boyfriend from my mind.
@icecubes
I scoffed. "Crappy cause, but I get a cool new home out of it. It seems quiet here, too. I like that!" I jump around, investigating every nook and cranny. Elizabeth started to straighten her poster. "So, have you gotten the flowers yet? Maybe we can buy them together!" I suggested.
I wondered how weird it was for her to talk to someone like me. I hoped she wouldn't ask too many questions. I didn't know how I existed, but I did, and that's that.

I shrug my shoulders at his suggestion. Actually, now that I think about it, Aunt Peggy would probably ask me to get the flowers too.
"Sure, but I want to grab an apple first. The first trip to the antique shop wore me out, I don't usually walk that far on my own."
Kade hops on my shoulder and I headed to the kitchen, pointing out and explaining rooms that we passed by and various decorations that my aunt has forced us to place in our house. As we reached the kitchen, I paused so Kade could hop onto the counter as I opened the refrigerator and reached in to grab an apple and placed it in my bag. As I straighten up and turn to Kade, I furrow my brow in confusion.
"So, like, is there…small food for you guys? Or do you just eat…crumbs?"
@icecubes
I step on Elizabeth's shoulder, which is lightly unstable. I listen as she hosts a impromptu house tour, all the way to the kitchen. She lowers herself to let me climb onto the counter.
"So, like, is there…small food for you guys? Or do you just eat…crumbs?" she asks, scratching her head as she looks through the fridge.
I chuckle, "Both. Just like animals and humans, there are small versions of plants, too. Except, M. Robinson didn't have any, so when we went out to lunch he'd break off pieces of his food for me. He'd always order, like, one giant crispy tofu for me and it was so delicious, you don't even know. My favorite food, that tofu. What's your favorite?"
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
I think about his question for a long moment. Probably mangoes. The consistency is a bit off-putting for some people, but that's what I like most about it." I respond confidently as we make our way to the front door, grabbing a basket on the way.
"Okay, do you know of the best place to find flowers?" I ask him, walking down the path that leads to our house.
@icecubes
After climbing back onto her shoulder, she finds a basket and goes back outside. "Okay, do you know of the best place to find flowers?" Elizabeth asks.
"A garden, lmao? Duh"
"There's a giant field near my house with normal sized flowers, but it's closed off to the big people, since the mayor of this city was too scared of them stepping on mini animals or people." I look around us, "Oh, but there is a spot next to this gambling building. Ironic, I know, flowers next to crazy people!"
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
I nod as I listen to him, quite tempted to take the former option anyway.
"Well, it's fitting, it's flowers for a crazy person." I add, rolling my eyes at the thought of my aunt again. Maybe I should rid my mind of her for the time being. We twist and turn through the streets until we reach the building. It definitely made me nervous to be around, but I mentally shook it off as we walked around to the side to see the collection of flowers causing a gentle gasp in awe from me.
@icecubes
I gaze at her proudly as she admires the flowers. "Pretty, right! God, flowers are so big, like you." The flowers are a soft yellow with five petals per bud. Elizabeth bends down slowly to pick the best ones, when someone stumbles outside the casino. "Hide!" I whisper in fear of her safety. The man doesn't notice us, but something falls out of his pocket. A card? I couldn't see it from here. After taking a smoke, the man goes back inside.
I turn my head to Elizabeth. "He dropped something."
(ok just so u know, it's an ace of spades on one side but also a business card for a fortune teller don't ask how I came up with that)
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
I watch the man run off as Kade whispers from my shoulder, "He dropped something." I turn back to gaze at the ground, noticing what looks like a card of some sort. I stroll over to the card and bend down to pick it up, careful not to let Kade fall.
"It's an ace of spades…" I murmur, studying the card carefully. I turn it over only to find that my previous conclusion may have been wrong. Information for a fortune teller lay written on the other side. I furrow my brow, attempting to read the words using the light from the building.
@icecubes
I slide down her arm and inspect the card. "Fortune teller? That's sick, dude! I've always wondered if they were, like, the real deal! They have the address on there too! Wait, we should get the flowers back for your aunt before we do anything with it," I say excitedly.
Elizabeth goes back to pick the best flowers, just enough to fill the vase.
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
As we finish picking the flowers, I return home shortly. I fill the vase and place it in an obvious location in the main room, hearing my dad talking in his study, probably discussing with my aunt. I didn't want to talk to her right now, though. I look over at Kade, pulling the card out of my pocket and examining it.
"What do you think he'll say?"
@icecubes
"What do you think he'll say?" Elizabeth commented as she inspected the card. I shrugged. Hopefully something good.
"Who's home right now? Wait, am I allowed to even live here?" I questioned upon hearing voices somewhere in the house. I gazed at her curiously. "After all, you just met me and I'm a boy and I'm a tiny person."
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
Kade starts hitting me with questions that remind me of the fact that I haven't even told my father, much less my aunt. I inhale and lower my posture as I shake my head.
"Don't worry, dad wouldn't mind, as long as you don't steal anything, I suppose." I utter, hastily making my way back to the foyer, the vase finally taken care of.
@icecubes
i close my closet full of stealing
no stealing here
@icecubes
I dangle my legs over her shoulder. "I should meet him then, don't you think?" I reply, running my hands through my hair. To be honest, I don't really have friends where I go to their houses. We often play silly sporty games and rough house, but sometimes I find myself not even knowing their names, much less their families. I don't know if that's just small people nature, or if my friends and I are just strange. Elizabeth seems very nice, though.
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
i'm not nice
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
I kick the pebbles as we make our way through the town, looking for the building.
"Yeah, maybe." I utter as his suggestion. I actually wasn't sure how my dad would react to me having a tiny person in his house, and worse, it was a boy. He's usually calm about most things, but I tend to avoid pushing his buttons.
@icecubes
"Do you think psychics are real?" I ask her, changing the topic. Personally, I don't. I'm definitely open to the idea, but I doubt there is any truth to the bull crap they pull. I mean, the world created by God is sure magical, but not that kind of magic.
@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage
"Not exactly. I think what's gonna happen is the dude's gonna read little things about me that I told him without realizing, and try to pass it off as being psychic. He couldn't guess the number I'm thinking of, though."
I utter, idly walking through the town looking for the sign.
@icecubes
"I bet I could guess what number you're thinking of!" I tease, dangling my legs over her shoulder. I'm slightly kicking her, and I hope she doesn't mind. I help her look for the sign, but a lot of them are way too big for me to read.
