It was just a simple frat party, right? You didn't want to get too crazy or drunk because you had plans for the next day. In fact, you don't even know why you agreed to attending this party. Your best friend, Exila somehow convinced you. She's really good at that. She even convinced you to have "just one more drink", to which you knew you lost it. You don't remember much afterwards, except the fuzzy memories of you getting into a car with Exila and another guy, you don't remember his name, despite Exila talking about him a lot. He was quiet from what you remember. Anyway, the rest was a blur; You left the car, you went into a house, and you fell asleep on something cushioned.
You wake up a with a splitting headache. Next to you was Exila, asleep, and you quietly thanked her for staying with you overnight rather than sleeping with the other guy. You look around and notice two people in the kitchen, having what sounds like an intellectual discussion. You stand up, clutching your head in pain as you head toward the kitchen. The two in the kitchen turn to see you in pain and pause their discussion to greet you.
"Good morning, princess," the guy with dyed blue hair and glasses chirped, "I don't think we've officially met. My name is Yuki. And you are?"
You smile and shake his hand that he offered to you, telling him your name. The girl with full black hair leaned forward over the island counter and smirked at you. "My name is Myst. It's nice to meet you." She says, turning and grabbing a glass of some liquid. She turns back around and hands it to you.
"This is coconut water, it'll help with the headache."

Myst winks at you and points at Yuki.
"By the way, you should call him Kiki. He loves it."
Yuki's eyes widen with an undying rage as he turns to Myst stiffly.
"I swear to God, Myst, if you tell one more person to call me that I will throw a book at your face."
"Oh, is it going to be the Bible, cause you're so religious?"
"I am not Christian!"
"Is that right? Which God are you swearing to, Kiki?"
Yuki turns his whole body towards Myst and is about to start yelling when a voice behind you gets the attention of all three of you.
"Hey," It's low and demanding, and it sends a chill down your spine. You turn around. It's the guy that Exila always talks about.
"Macy and Exxy are still asleep. Can you keep it down in here?"
My eyes flicker back and forth between the two fighting strangers as I sip the refreshing coconut juice. It is clear to me that they are not fans of one another. I chuckle at their silly fight. 'Yuki and Myst,' I think, 'remember that.' The yelling begins to escalate when a somewhat familiar voice breaks in.
"Hey, Macy and Exxy are still asleep. Can you keep it down in here?" I squint at the man, realizing he was with Exila and I last night. I take in his features for the first time, his hair is in a bun with loose hairs lining his jaw. A look of irritation intimidates me, so I stay quiet hoping one of the two could reply. I don't know them yet, so I push away my peacemaker instinct. They might not be so nice.
Yuki and Myst immediately comply to the man. Myst sets down her own glass of coconut water after taking a sip from it. She gently turns her head towards you and nods at the man.
"That's Jean, by the way. We always crash at his house after a big party." She then darts her eyes back to Jean with what seemed to be a forced look of respect and said,
"Your highness, you're going to need more coconut water."
Jean is motionless in his reaction. He stares daggers at Myst, who does not seem bothered by his hateful glare as she sips her coconut water.
"Anyway, Macy and Exxy should wake up anyway. It's almost ten."
Yuki turns to you.
"Do you want something better to drink than coconut water? Like, I don't know, tea? Or coffee?"
He says this loud enough for Myst to hear, just to piss her off a bit more.
Myst's sense of humor makes me want to laugh, but I couldn't be rude to Jean. He is Exila's boy after all.
Yuki suddenly asks me, "Do you want something better to drink than coconut water? Like, I don't know, tea? Or coffee?" I could tell my choice is meant to show who I like better, so I avoid the question.
I stare at the ceiling, pretending to be thinking. "Actually, a light snack would be great right now." I pause. "Were you guys all at the party? I didn't notice."
Jean went off to go wake up Exila and Macy.
"Yeah," Myst responded to Rai, "A couple other people were there, but Jean didn't want them at his house. Everyone else we didn't really know that well anyway."
Yuki walks over to the fridge and pulls out a handful of fruits.
"Which one, princess? Jean has oranges, apples and bananas."
Myst rolls her eyes at Yuki and walks over to one of the stools that rested at the island counter.
"If you're going to call her princess at least let her call you Kiki."
Yuki huffs at Myst, ignoring her as he looks back at you for a response, taking a bite out of an apple.
My cheeks flame up. I rake my fingers through my hair nervously. I wonder if princess is what he calls everyone.
"Toss me an apple. And, you know, I'm not feeling 'Kiki.'" I say slowly. "How about Snow? Since that's the English translation. Sometimes people called me Lightning instead of Rai or Inazuma." I smile through my embarrassment, wondering where the hell those words came from. My cold hand attempts to cool down my cheeks. I realize I don't remember much of last night. I hope Exila wakes soon, perhaps she has an explanation for anything that happened.
Yuki raises an eyebrow. "She speaks!" He chimes, tossing an apple to you. He puts the rest of the fruits back into the fridge as Exila sleepily walks into the kitchen.
"What time is it?" She asks gruffly, eyes squinted at the lights.
"Monday, 4pm." Myst responds, serving an elbow in the side from Yuki.
"It's a quarter til 10 in the morning, Exxy. On a Sunday." He put a bit more emphasis on the 'Sunday' part. Exila looks around as she plops down in a seat next to Myst, grabbing the cup of coconut water Myst handed her.
"Where's Jean?"
Myst sighs and shrugs, "Probably waking up Macy."
Exila looks down and mumbles to herself.
"He's been back there a long time."
Myst nods, remembering Exila's interest in Jean.
"Well, you know Jean, the man-whore." Myst retorts.
"He is not a man-whore!" Exila snaps back.
"Speak of the devil." Yuki says in a warning voice.
Something was wrong, though. Jean looked troubled. Exila noticed it immediately.
"Hey, Jean? What's wrong? Where's Macy?"
Jean looks at Exila and sighs heavily and slowly.
"We have a problem." There's a long pause between his words. Almost as if he's giving everyone time to prepare.
"Macy is dead."
I roll my eyes at Yuki, catching the apple. I take a small bite out of the sweet gem. Exila awakes and questions Jeans whereabouts, when he steps into the room looking panicked. "Macy is dead."
I cock my head to a side. "Dead? How? Let me see her!" My inner detective lets loose before I can pack it down. "How long has she been dead? Jean?" I glance around at the others, wondering if they have a clue.
Everyone else gasps, and Exila holds back tears.
"She's cold, she's been dead for several hours now." Jean looks over at Myst and Yuki.
"Can you two come with me?"
Myst and Yuki stand up and make their way out of the kitchen. They follow Jean into the hallway and make a turn, going out of sight. Exila looks at you, tears running down her face as she holds her arms out for a hug.
"I can't believe this is happening, Rai. This has to be a nightmare. Or some cruel joke. I don't want her to be dead, Rai." She says through sobs.
Although I wanted to see the body, I know I have to comfort Exila. I embrace her and let her cry onto my shoulders.
"It's alright, Exila. Just breathe, we'll find out who did this to her. So her soul can rest. It's okay," I hope my words somehow reach her. What the hell is going on?
After a few moments of silence, Jean walks into the room. Without a word, he approaches the front door and locks it with a code. As he does this, Yuki and Myst walk into the room with concerned looks on their faces. They sit next to you and Exila and watch Jean in silence. Jean returns to where everyone is sitting and looks at you and Exila. He inhales deeply, blinking slowly.
"We think Macy was poisoned."
He gives everyone a bit of time to allow the news to settle in.
"It wasn't at the party. It must have been here. I kept an eye on everyone's drinks while they had their back turned, but I did not manage the snack we had when we got home."
Myst inhales sharply and adds her comment.
"There wasn't any wounds or signs of struggle on Macy's body, but there was a bit of foam or drool mixed with blood coming out of her mouth."
Jean looks at the other four with a hollow seriousness in his eyes.
"Whichever of you thought this would be a funny prank, you were wrong, and someone is dead now. It is time you admit to your crime and allow us to turn you in to the police."
A heavy air settles on top of the cold silence.
I bite my lip, pondering over Jean and Myst's words. I don't know anyone here, except Exila and what I've heard about Jean. I don't even know Macy. The thought of someone in the house with a murderous motive makes me sick.
I try putting together evidence, but being asleep half the time did not make things easy. Poison? Yuki offered fruit. It's hard to poison fruit. Is it? Maybe. Jean was with Macy for a good time. But he said she's been dead for awhile. How long have we been here? Countless questions are racing through my head. I inhale, deciding to be the first to say something. I have to choose my words carefully.
"Um," I start, rubbing my sweaty palms on my legs, "Well, if it was poisoned food, what - what did she eat?"
Jean turns to look at you.
"You all had a snack last night before we crashed. Does anyone remember what it was?"
There was a moment of silence before Myst chimed in.
"Noodles. I saw the trash this morning, there was tons of packets at the top."
Yuki tilts his head and absentmindedly puts his thumb to his lips, in deep thought.
"Are you sure she had some, though? MacKenzie doesn't eat much."
Exila sighs heavily, adjusting her position in her seat.
"Was anyone not drunk last night?" She asks, with a tinge of frustration in her voice. Myst immediately pipes in.
"Yuki and Jean were the designated drivers. Do y'all remember?"
Yuki answers quietly but surely, "I don't remember, I'm sorry I wasn't paying much attention."
Myst responds with a new emotion in her voice. "Yeah, you were too busy trying to disprove everything everyone said." Yuki reciprocates.
"Yeah, right, like you don't do the exact same?"
Jean intervenes immediately.
"Yuki. Myst. Please take this seriously. Macy is dead."
'Noodles?' I think. I rack my brain, trying to remember if anything happened. I suddenly wonder how Myst remembers what Yuki was doing. Do I dare ask? Will I be the next one dead? I suppose it was worth a try. But, she probably just assumed.
"Who made the noodles?" A dumb question. How will they even remember? This is ridiculous. Yuki or Jean have to know something. "Jean? Yuki? You must remember the most. Tell us what you did last night and we'll say our alibis after. There has to be a hole somewhere." Feeling confident, I inhale, hoping to find out who killed our dear friend.
Yuki absentmindedly twiddled his thumbs, keeping his eyes locked on the table to avoid eye contact with anyone.
"I had a drink after we got home. I was one of the designated drivers so I couldn't drink until we arrived home." Myst rolls her eyes.
"You said you weren't going to drink unless in a controlled environment with someone to watch how much you had."
Yuki snapped back.
"Which is why I waited until we got home and asked Jean to monitor my alcohol intake. He only let me have one and a half bottles."
Myst turns her head back to Jean expectantly. "So? Jean, you were the only one sober, you want to find the murderer too, you might as well tell everyone what you were doing last night."
Jean sighs, slowly making eye contact with everyone around the table. He goes over his story in his head and plans out each word before speaking them.
"When we got home, Exila and I went to my room for just a few minutes. When we came out, everyone was around the table and I could smell the noodles. Everyone had already put away their dishes so I don't know who ate or who cooked. I decided to help set up some places to sleep in the living room, so I went to the hallway to grab some blankets and pillows. When I came back, Exila and Rai were chilling on the couch. I didn't see anyone else. I prepared the beds for everyone and started to develop a headache so I went to sleep. It was a little after 1am when I went to bed. That's my alibi." Jean leans back in his chair smoothly as he inhales at the last word. He turns his head to Myst and eyes her expression.
"I gave my story, now it's your turn. We'll all go around telling everyone what we remembered and put the pieces together."
I listen carefully to everyone's words and actions, trying to differentiate between someone being nervously guilty or simply grieving. It's hard to tell. I ponder on calling the police, but seeing as nobody has, I don't. Nothing in Jean's story seemed flawed, so I stay quiet, waiting to hear out Myst.
Myst rolls her tongue around in her cheek with an annoyed expression on her face before inhaling sharply.
"We got home, I scrolled through my Instagram, got hungry, and grabbed an orange. That wasn't enough so I asked if anyone was hungry for anything else and decided on noodles. It was simple and easy and wasn't too much to eat. After that I went out to go smoke a cigarette, but I stayed on your property, Jean. I didn't go too far from the house, seeing that I was still a little drunk. After that I came back in to see that there were places to sleep set up so I washed my face in the kitchen and went to sleep. Jean was asleep by then. I don't know about anyone else, I wasn't paying attention." Myst rubbed her eyes after racking her brain trying to remember the story. After a moment she ended with, "That's all I have."
She turned to face you, seeing as you were sitting next to her, and motioned for your recap.
I listen intently to Myst. She decided on snacking, which would allow her to poison the food. If there was no snack, no poison could have been planted. Unless it was inside a drink.
I sigh, trying to remember through hazy flashbacks. "I can't recall much, but I remember going home with Exila and Jean. Um, I don't really remember eating noodles at all. Maybe I did? God, Exila got me super drunk. Next thing I know, I'm awake on a couch with Yuki and Myst in the kitchen." I put my head in my hands angrily, "I'm sorry, I wish I could remember more. Oh, I remember Macy leaving at one point? I think? I don't know anymore." The way I tell my story, makes me seem suspicious. I truly don't remember anything, and hope Exila could back me up, since I think she was with me most of the night.
