Viva tried to comfort him. "Miles! You're not useless at all. Seriously, you're amazing at supporting people. You're really nice. That time we talked at the campfire, you lifted my spirits a heap. And you may not be the best at fighting yet, but you've only been here for a few days.
Seriously, you wouldn't have been picked for this quest, and received omens about it, if you weren't meant for it."
Viva blushed a little bit as she continued, "looks aren't the only thing you have going for you Miles, trust me."

"See? That's good supporting, compared to whatever I do," Miles said. He looked away to hide the blush creeping on his face. He looked at his hand and noticed something on it that definitely wasn't there before. On his right hand, on the middle finger, was a golden ring. He started fiddling with it.

Viva snorted. "Me? Good at supporting?" Viva followed Miles' gaze to a golden ring on his middle finger. "What's that?" she asked.

@BookAddict

"I"m asking myself the same question," Miles replied, investigating the ring. "I don't even know how it got there,"

"Ok…" Viva answered, confused. "When did it appear?"

@charkieshark

Miles thought about it. “I think… the night I got claimed. I haven’t been paying much attention to anything since then, so it’s got to be then,” he said. He took the ring off and spun it around in his fingers. There was an engraving on the inside, but he didn’t get to read it before the ring transformed. He dropped the newly formed shield, startled. He looked at Viva. “Uhh… is that normal?”

@BookAddict

Viva looked at him, "That's not normal as such. But it isn't unheard of. It's a magic item, courtesy of…" at this, Viva choked, but she managed to force out the name she detested most, "Aphrodite."

@charkieshark

“You don’t sound too pleased about that,” Miles pointed out, picking up the shield. It was pretty plain, but had a few ornate markings going around the edges.

@charkieshark

“Must be pretty bad if you don’t even want to say her name,” Miles said, attempting to put down the shield. He twisted a little part and it turned back into a ring. He placed it on his finger and looked at Viva.

@BookAddict

Viva looked up again. "It isn't your fault. I don't blame you or anything." She looked back down again, evading his question.
