As Ender disembarked with the rest of the passengers, he glanced at the crowd bustling in the terminal. Baggage will certainly be a chore to get…
He peered at the faces, trying to find the group he was meeting up with. His mom would be there, he hadn't seen her in person for 13 years. He spotted her and waved. She smiled and waved back, pointing to the group next to her.
That must be who I'm meeting up with!
He rushed down and threw his arms around her. "Hey mom!"
She squeezed him. "Alex! It's sososo good to see you!" She let go and looked him up and down. "Wow….you're taller than me now."
Ender rolled his eyes, a small smile playing on his lips. "That does happen with time. Also, my nickname is Ender."
She shook her head. "Right…right. You better go check in with your group. I'll get your baggage!"
He watched her go, wondering why her and dad had split.

(Alright that was kinda long but my idea is that Dakota is with the group to meet the incoming students)

Dakota waited with the group, chatting bubbly with some of her friends. She laughed at something and looked over her shoulder to see if anyone had shown up, yet. Spotting Ender, she grinned and walked over to him.

"Hi! You must be one of the students we're meeting today! I'm Dakota, you know, like North or South?" she introduced herself with a giggle, sticking her hand out to him.

Ender grinned and shook her hand enthusiastically. "A pleasure to meet you, Dakota! I'm Alexander, like Alexander the great. Most people just call me Ender. I'm from Minnesota so I am very familiar with that area."

"Oh, I'm not from the Dakotas," Dakota laughed, taking her hand back and using it to hold onto her opposite arm. "I'm was actually born in Minnesota, though! But then we moved down here."

(It's cannon in his universe so yes I did)

"Cool! Lots of lakes over there."

(Dude, that's hilarious.)

"Oh, yeah! Totally! Did you know there are over fifteen thousand lakes in Minnesota? The whole 'Land of 10,000 Lakes' things underestimates it," Dakota declared.

"I know! I guess fifteen thousand isn't as catchy." He cleared his throat. "So…why did you end up moving here?"

Dakota shrugged. "My parents. I think it was because of my dad's job. He works for a bank, so we move around a lot," she explained with a smile. "It was when I was really little, so I don't remember much. Just snow… Lots and lots of snow…"

"Yep. That's pretty much all you need to remember about it." He laughed. "I honestly prefer Oregon weather. A lot more rain."

"The rain is nice, yeah. Unless you want to go to the beach… Then it's a little too wet," Dakota declared.
