(Is it like a zombie when it bites you, you turn into one?)
(Well I was going to explain it in the next post but I'll explain it now)
(But basically kind of yes)
(So theres two kinds of bites. Different kinds of screamers have different kinds of saliva. Its extremely rare, but yes you could turn into one or a hybrid of sorts. Once we find out more of the mystery behind it as we get farther into the roleplay we can discuss and find out more about it. But for now, the characters are clueless about the hybrid thing until they all go through the books and find more things if that makes sense. Sorry if doesn't)
(makes sense to me)
Nina heard more screams, then sudden silence. She watched and listened for quite a while, but there was nothing. Maybe the monsters had finally caught their prey….she shuddered at the thought, but knew she'd be safer venturing into the open if they were busy eating. After a few more minutes, she mustered up her courage and packed her things, creeping out onto the streets in search of a safer hideout and perhaps more supplies.
Caelen heard the screeching and groaned. He was in a shop trying to find some bandages and water to address a bruise that had started forming. He put whatever he found in his bag and jumped out the second floor window. Running as fast as he could go, Caelen ran back to his house and grabbed his crossbow. Thankfully one of the hunting stores in the area still had some weapons and he had gotten to the only crossbow first. Judging by the sound, he came to the conclusion that they were at the mall so he went there.
After a while of sitting there, he decided to take a look at his leg. Rolling up the jeans, he let out a sigh. The blood mixed with the saliva of the best burned like hell. He winced in pain before taking out some alchohol and pouring it on the bite before wrapping it up. Taking a sip of the alcohol before stuffing it back in his bag, he hopped back up and kicked the dog like screamer. It twitched a little bit and he knew he would have to sever its head.
So kneeling down, that's just what he did with the machete in his bag.
After a few hacks at its neck, its head came off and he held it by its ashy fur as the blood dripped down into the puddle on the tiles.
Adrien had been hiding out in their apartment for a while trying to find out something pertaining to screamers, but really there was nothing that they could really do. The government was withholding all information that could help them, and trying to go and figure things out on their own wasn't going to work either. They looked at a few of the samples that they had collected from the screamers, a bit of their blood here, some of the dead skin flakes there -at least that's what they thought it was-. They had put the items in a controlled environment to see if anything would happen. Maybe if they were introduced to human bacteria, would something change, or if it were introduced to a blood sample. As they waited to see if anything would happen, they silently chewed on their thumbnail, he was really hoping that Bennet would make it back. The guy had set out to find some samples that Adrien could work with but was yet to come back. Adrien checked their wristwatch, "He should have been back hours ago." Then they heard loud noises down the hall of the apartment complex, coming straight towards their door, "Shoot." Grabbing the backpack he had made a few days before with some snacks, batteries, their notebooks on the screamers, they started to pack the samples up. The sounds grew louder and louder, and he could hear the heavy footsteps of a screamer. They grabbed their father's gun off the mantle -the one they had taken with them when they left and lept out of the back window. Thankfully they were on the first floor, which meant that they could find somewhere remotely safe.
Nina reached the drug store safely—to her great relief—and started looking around for anything left behind that might be useful. Yet again she thanked the stars that she'd been studying medicine, since now she could recognize and safely use more of the obscure pills on the shelves. Still, there wasn't much remaining in the store. She found a Staff Only door in the back, but it was locked, and when she climbed over the pharmacy counter to look for another way in, that was locked as well. She sighed, glanced at the light outside, and decided she had enough time before dark to look around for a key.
Caelen had also brought a sword with him. It was a gift from his father and only to be used as a decorative piece in his house, who would have thought it would actually come in handy. The mall was empty. Many stores were half empty from when people fled but there was still some useful stuff. "Hello!" Caelen called in a singsong voice, taking his sword out of its sheath and holding it in a defensive position.
Something wasn't right. The Screamers didn't scream often and would only do so if they were attacking or alarmed. Not only that, but it also sounded close. It sounded like there was a struggle going on, so Valerie took her baseball bat and went to venture out of her hiding hole. She only emerged very few times which was why she was so pale. She stood there on the rooftop as her eyes were adjusting to the sunlight, finally feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin.
SCREEECH.
Immediately, Valerie was on guard, gripping her baseball bat tightly and readying into a stance of battle.
"Come at me bitch." She mumbled to herself, trying to steady her nerves. She hadn't talked in so long that she didn't even recognize her own voice. To her, it sounded like someone else.
Jezariah stood with the head in his hands and ash falling to the ground as he walked, leaving a trail of ashy blood behind him.
He stepped out onto the streets and looked around, trying to see if anyone was around.
To no surprise, he didnt sense a soul.
But he had to quickly bury the head before it came back. Yes, they come back. As one last attempt they…of course let out a scream. Last resort to bring the others together. It made sense to Jez.
And then she saw it. A human.
Stumbling on the streets and covered in blood, before following with a loud Scream behind him. For a moment, Valerie was both relieved and shocked that she wasn't the only one left, but she quickly snapped out of it.
"Hey, over here!" Valerie yelled out, waving her arms wildly trying to catch his attention. there was a ladder near the window, perhaps she could lure the screamer over before beating the shit out of it and saving the other person. Thoughts zoomed through her brain as she was frantically trying to think of a way to come out of the situation safely.
Adrien was hurrying down the street at a brisk pace. They hadn't thought of taking out their bike, but now it was too late to go and get it, although it would have been so much better than walking. Their feet were already feeling a bit tired and they were yet to find a place that felt remotely safe or didn't have any screamers. They could hear some of their screeches off in the distance. Adrien shuddered at the thought of them being near and hurried his pace, 'These things are dangerous.' They thought to himself, 'If only there was a flipping cure.' If only more information would be known. Their lab partner Bennet and them had been studying the Screamers for a bit before all of this had happened. They never came in contact with live ones or any like this, but with their tissue. They had figured that perhaps it was a new mutation, nothing deadly, but when they saw how it had reacted to other life forms, the whole study had been closed down by the government. If some of the other scientists who was working on the project would have been allowed to continue working, they might have been to fix the issue. But, since they weren't allowed to do a thing, they were stuck in this terrible mess. They began to walk down an unlit street and they grew a bit nervous, especially when they saw a shadowy figure peering out towards them, "H-hello?" They said quietly, praying that it wasn't a screamer.
Nina searched and searched, but couldn't find the staff room key anywhere. Eventually she was startled by more screaming in the distance and looked out the window to see–oh no, it was much later in the day than she'd thought. Forget the key, she had to find a safe place to spend the night.
She returned to the street, moving as quickly and quietly as possible, keeping her eyes peeled for an intact building with thick walls and few points of entrance. The stores here were all glass-fronted, so they wouldn't do. She decided to risk heading for the police station, even though the screamers were in that direction. Surely that building would be safe and easy to defend.
(One, sorry I was gone for so long. I got busy)
(Also, both of your characters see someone. @Calanthe and @I_know_who_I_Am)
(Was that Jezariah or eaxhothers characters?)
(Valerie sees Jezariah on the street while shes on the rooftop.)
(Okay noice)
Jezariah, hearing a faint voice in the distance dropped the head with a thud and a small /splat/ of blood, he looked around.
The common sense part of him said it was his own voice and hes hearing things to replace the pretense of another being so he didnt go mad.
The other part of him held onto hope for dear life, hoping it was another person.
He broke into a big white smile when he saw the girl atop a roof.
"H-Hey!!" He exclaimed happily. His voice was low and hoarse, more manly than he appeared to be for sure. "Come down here!!"' He says as he made his way to the structure she was atop
"Hell I ain't going down there, come up here." She replied before motioning towards the ladder. At the same time, Valerie was on the lookout for any screamers roaming around, it was getting dark which meant that they would be more active (I would presume?) "I have a hideout up here we can stay in, which means we should probably treat that." Once he got up, she motioned towards his leg. She noticed the bite mark on his ankle and immediately began wracking her brain around for how the infection worked. The only problem with that is that she had absolutely no information to go off of since the government refused to share any information with the people.
(Yeah it deoends on the screamer. The bigger ones are more active during the night but they're really really slow and kinda stupid)
(I appreciate you doing that though ♡)
Jez rolled his eyes. "Okay rude. I just killed one of those things and I'm injured and yiure expecting me to come up there?" He huffed.
"Well you're right but still" he says climbing the ladder. He was tough with a high pain tolerance so obviously he was gonna put pressure on his leg whether it was good for him or not.
"Its decently easy to.hide from these things. The dumber ones that is. Anyway, let's get inside it's only going to get darker and coler" he says readjusting his bag on his shoulder. The blood and ash still on his hands and some on his face along with his clothes. He had a change in his bag though so he wasnt worried. Nor did he really care about being clean in a time like this.
Nina was just turning the corner when she heard voices up ahead. She froze, looking around, and soon spotted a young man and a young woman standing on a nearby rooftop. They both looked tense and well-armed, making her hesitate to come out of hiding. But it felt like forever since she'd last encountered any living humans, and she didn't want to let this chance slip by. Before they could go out of sight, she quickly stepped forward and called out to them. "E-excuse me! Down here!"
Valerie proceeded to open the window and motioned for him to get inside. "Yeah sorry about that, I'm just… I'm just taking extra precautions that's all. Also, you need help?" She apologized before she heard another voice. Am I just imagining things or is there actually another person here? Immediately she whipped her head around to see a young girl also standing on the streets. "Hello?" She asked with uncertainty while still keeping an eye on her new friend to make sure he didn't need any help. It was now getting darker meaning that the Bigger Screamers were more likely to come out now. Which meant if the girl stayed down there, she was going to be fresh meat.
"Hi," Nina repeated, trotting closer with obvious relief. "Listen, I'm sorry to bother you–my name's Nina, it's nice to meet you–but, um, I'm looking for a place to spend the night and I was wondering if you guys have any extra room? It's totally fine if you don't, I just thought I'd ask. Um, I promise I won't be a threat or a burden or anything!" She wasn't so sure that she would be okay if they turned her away, but she wanted to seem friendly above all else at the moment.
Caelen walked outside after examining the mall. He did find the bodies of some Screamers but didnt find the person who did that. Walking outside, the cool evening breeze nipped at his exposed shoulders and he shivered, he needed to find a clothing store with things his size soon.
Voices broke through the quiet of the night and Caelen whipped around, looking for them, trying to decide if they were friend or foe. They sounded a bit scared so that meant they may be friends. He followed the voices to see a girl on the ground talking to two figures on a roof.
Valerie had to think about the situation for a moment. In one day, she had managed to find two people in the middle of an apocalypse. The attic she was currently staying in wasn't really that big, but it would be manageable to fit two more people. However, the problem would be finding enough food for all of them combined.
"Come on up," She sighed before her eyes wondered over Nina's shoulder to see………another person?
"Holy Shit, there's another one!"
Nina jumped in surprise and whipped around. The instant she spotted the young man approaching, she turned and zipped up the ladder, not waiting to see if he was friendly.
"Thanks!" she quickly said to the girl. "What do we do now? Do you not know that guy?"
Jez waved a little in attempts to greet the girl when he noticed a second figure not too far away. He got his dagger out, but showed that he was no threat as he held it low.
He turned back to the girl, cautious of the man afar still. "I cant beleive theres more of you guys. Whered you come from? Well actually we can ask questions later" he turned back around to the girl beside him, not yet knowing anyone's names.
"I ran past a pretty locked up barn not too far away from here when I ran into town. It's better to travel tomorrow morning. We could stay here and we can go check out the barn?"
"Hello! Might I ask if you are human? If so I am glad to see there are some alive other than myself. If you have a place to stay great, if not I have a house not too far from here that is stocked with food and medicine if you need it." Caelen called, his sword still out of its sheath but in a relaxed position.
