Soon they were at the large protest. It looked typical enough, signs, yelling but…never did they think actually riot police would be there.
"We've been here longer than any of you!" one protester shouted
they all seemed to be centered around one person they both of them could not see yet.
"Who's in the middle?" She asked loud enough for Tempest to hear.
"Cal. No one knows his last name but he's been doing this kind of stuff across America for about a decade." Tempest responded
"Cal?" She asked standing on her toes. She couldn't see over the crowd and she probably never would. She huffed in annoyance crossing her arms. "I forgot this is why I don't go to protests."
"Hey get on up." He squatted down for her to get on his shoulders. "I want you to see this this guy."
She flushed a bright red. "You… you sure?" She asked rubbing her arm awkwardly.
"Yeah come on." He smiled and patted his shoulder
She sighed and was still a flushed color: she got on his back and smiled. "Am I too heavy?
"Nope you're fine." He said to her, in his canine form to give them a couple of good solid inches more. Cal could be seen soon. He had been given a circle of space and wore a wore a vest over a flannel button down and a pair jeans. He had horn jutting out of either of his head put had the complexion of a normal person.
Joanna lay her chin on the top of his head smiling. She liked feeling tall for once. "This is really cool!" She laughed.
The protest wasn't that crazy but was still making quite a scene. "What's he doing now?" Tempest asked as she was his eyes now.
She strained herself and looked. "Not much." She replied.
"Is he saying anything?" Temp asked. He looked up to this person a lot and could be considered a fanboy of the civil rights activist.
"I can't tell." She replied. She was struggling to see or hear things.
There was a demon thrown out of a bar while three other non humans entered, being seen sitting at the barstools waiting to be served. "It's like the one I studied back in school. Y'know when black people didn't have equal rights." Tempest noted
Joanna nodded. "Yeah- it's almost the same. But you guys aren't kept for slaves right?"
"Not in America." Tempest told her
She gasped a little. "Wait- where are you kept as slaves?"
"A lot in the middle east if not killed outright. It's why a lot of us reside in English speaking countries, cause the UK and US banned the killing and trade of us."
"That's awful… what about Canada?" She asked softly.
"Oh Canada has already given us full equal rights. Canadians are awesome." Tempest smiled happily.
Joanna perked up some. "Oh thank god…"
There was louder yelling happening not far to their left, an officer had pushed a angel back as they got a bit too close to the police.
"What's happening?" She asked sitting up higher.
"I don't know you're the one with the height." Tempest reminded her.
The cop had smacked a vampire back with his baton and the protesters started forward to deliver some retribution for the injustice when Cal shouted "STAY IN THE GROUP! DO NOT ATTACK THE HUMANS!"
