"Why? Tell me what happens if you don't." The humor from Riley's chuckle faded away as he looked down at her ever so slightly from the corner of his eye.

"I… I can't. Don't worry about it, I'll be fine…" Eve didn't sound very sure but she didn't care.
"You don't sound so sure." Riley turned towards her more. "Tell me."
"No, I'll be fine." Eve forced herself to smile at Riley.
"Eve…" Riley crossed his arms. "I wasn't necessarily asking. Tell me whats making you..hesitate."
Eve shook her head, "No. Please just drop it, Riley."
"Please?" Riley tried puppy dog eyes, then looked away after the failed attempt. "Fine.."
"Thank-you… maybe I'll tell you some other time." Eve said with a small sigh.
"Alright I guess." Riley sighed, running a hand through his hair.
After a few more minutes of walking, they reached a small white house at the end of the street, "Well… this is me…"
"So soon." Riley sighed. "Sure wish you didn't have to go home now."
Eve rolled her eyes a little, "I don't want to be here either…"
"So don't. Eve, if you trust me, nothing will happen to you." Riley looked at the sky, then to the house. "I sense you're worth protecting like that." He smiled.
Eve blushed and looked at the ground, “Riley… I-If I don’t go in then… I do trust you… but there’s nothing that can stop this…”
"You want to try me? I've dealt with some pretty bad stuff before. Eve…" Riley trailed off, sighing. He didn't want to continue his statement.
“You’ve dealt with family abuse then?” Eve spoke before she could stop herself and put a hand over her mouth quickly.
Turning his back to her, Riley pulled up his shirt slightly, revealing an odd shaped scar on his lower back. "I have." Turning back around, he looked down at Eve. "More than once. I promise you'll be fine. You're.. Different. You can trust me."
"How am I different? Riley if I don't go back in there then I'm just going to be making everything a lot worse for myself…" Eve shook her head a little.
"Eve. I don't know how you're different, but I can sense it." He lied. "At least let me come over then?" He questioned as a last resort.
"You're a terrible liar, Riley. And no, you can't. If you want to see me again, meet me at the lake at noon tomorrow." She said, unlocking the gate.
"Alright, fine. Be careful Eve." Riley smiled a bit, waiting for her to go inside before he left.
"I'll be as careful as I can be." Eve gave him a strained smile before opening the gate and shutting it behind her and walking up to the door. It took a moment before she actually went in.
Hesitating, Riley slowly walked off. A small ring of fire slowly ran around his hand as he let himself fall into thought.
At noon the next day, Eve carefully made her way back to the lake. Her back ached but she ignored it and sat down on the sand.
Making his way to the lake the next day, Riley had his tongue held between his teeth. Slowly creeping up behind Eve, he poked her shoulder. "Boo."
