He smiled softly back.

Charles slowly opened the bedroom door. “Room service?”

" No thank you" Betty said

Charles raised a brow and looked at the couple. ”You sure? Because I know you haven't been drinking enough, Elizabeth. You’ll heal faster if you do.”

Lysander rolled his eyes. ”Charles, we fine for now. If you're the one who left that bell in here, we’ll let you know when we need anything.”

" I'm fine dad" she said

”Alright. If you say so.” Charles relented. ”Just don't take all day. I don't think Lysander’s human body can handle that.” he half teased as he left the room.

Lysander gave a small glare at the door once they were alone.

" I won't kill you" she promised

Lysander blinked in surprise at that statement. ”I never thought you would.” he told her.

" my dad obviously thinks I will" she pouted

His eyes widened for a moment before shaking his head. ”No… No, that's not…” he stopped to clear his throat. ”He was making fun of me. Chances are he knows about the vervain in me anyway. But no, he was saying that as a human, I'm much weaker and need to eat regularly. It was nothing against you.”

" I've spent a lot of time with my father he still thinks I'm incapable of being a vampire" she said

”Love, I think you're thinking of your stepfather.” he said gently. ”I agree Charles could have worded that better but I have spent much longer with him so trust me when I say his opinion of you is much higher than his opinion of human men. He absolutely detests them.”

She sighed rolling away

”No, really.” he assured her. ”He thinks of them as weak, egotistical, and pathetic. He respects human women though.”

" human men are nice" she said

”They’re not bad… some are definitely better than others.” he agreed.

" they don't steal my blood" she said

He sighed a little. ”That’s true.” he said softly.

She nodded

Lysander couldn't think of anything to say, so he just laid there in silence for a minute.

Betty looked over at him

”Do you want me to stay human?” he asked just above a whisper. ”Once I’m healed?”

" I think that's what you've always wanted and I want you to be happy" she said

He shrugged. ”I’ve missed being human… for a long time. I won't deny that, but what I really want, right now, is to be with you.” he said honestly as he looked into her eyes.

"but I know being human will make you happy" she said

”Being with you makes me happier.” he countered.
