“Why didn’t he kill me? Why did’t he kill me instead of them?” Vaughn sobbed, face buried in the crook of Kaz’s neck. He remebered waking up, still laying at the bottom of the stairs. He remembered bleeding from a cut on the back of his head. Hell, underneath his hair, he probably still had a scar. He remembered stumbling to his feet, calling out for his mom and little sister. There had been blood all over the stairs, staining the carpet. He remembered stumbling into the kitchen, where he found his mom and sister. Well, pieces of them. The sick bastard had dismembered them. He remembered practically collapsing, loosing anything that he had eaten earlier for dinner. It was so vivid. He almost wanted to get sick again.
"Shh, don't say things like that," Kaz murmured, a hand moving to the back of Vaughn's head to hold him gently as he cried. He held the other man close, rocking him back and forth a little. "You deserved to live. Your mom and sister may not have made it, but you did. And there's gotta be a good reason for it," he said. He wasn't the best at consoling people, but he was really trying for Vaughn's sake
Vaughn trembled as he cried. He gripped tightly to Kaz as he did so. It did feel good to get that out. He barely told people about that. Why tell them when they could simply search it up online? He decided to continue explaining, to get it all out. “I went to at least four different foster homes after that. I have mental trauma from it all, and no one wanted to deal with it.”
Kaz nodded, running a hand through Vaughn's hair as he leaned down to press a kiss to his forehead. "I would be surprised if you didn't have trauma from that," he said quietly. He knew it had hurt to watch his own father shove his mother around when he visited. He had hated the man, and it had been a relief when he was finally dead. "No one should have to go through something like that on their own. And now that I'm here I don't plan on letting you suffer any more. I care about you too much to let anything happen to you."
Vaughn trembled at Kaz’s words and nodded a bit. “I am so sorry,” he said again, tears dripping onto the collar of Kaz’s shirt. “I love you too,” he finally forced out once the whispers had seemed to grow quiet, gripping Kaz tighter as he spoke.
Kaz smiled, the warm feeling in his chest coming back with a vengeance. He reached one hand down to wipe some of the tears from Vaughn’s eye before kissing the corners of his eyes. “You didn’t have to say it. You say it in everything you do,” he murmured, holding him close to his chest

Vaughn sniffled softly, arms lacing around Kaz’s waist. “I mean it,” he stammered, doing his best to blink away the hot tears that still lingered in his eyes. Finally, the whispers came back. Oh, you’ll pay for that, Finley. You better not fall asleep, they threatened. He knew if he did, what the night terrors would be about. Kaz being brutally slaughtered in front of him. One more person to loose in his dreams.

“I know you do love,” he said softly, smiling down at Vaughn. He ran a hand through his hair gently, pressing kisses to his cheek in a soothing manner
Vaughn leaned into Kaz’s touch in need. He released a shuddering breath, slowly feeling his nerves calm. He felt light a weight was lifted off of his chest after telling Kaz. And the best part was that Kaz wasn’t judging him or anything like that.
Kaz held him against his chest, mumbling soothing nonsense as he rocked Vaughn in the chair. He felt bad for causing Vaughn so much trouble, but it seemed to have helped somehow. “You wanna go lay on the couch?” he offered, pressing another kiss to his nose
Vaughn nodded a bit, slowly getting to his feet. His thigh didn’t sting as much as it had before. Now it just ached a bit.
Kaz took his hand, leading them over to the couch. He laid down on it, moving so Vaughn could lay on the couch with him
Vaughn layed down on the couch, half on top of Kaz. He wrapped his arms around him, one of his legs draping over him as well. He couldn’t get close enough to him.
Kaz smiled up at Vaughn, pressing another kiss to his nose. He reached up, wrapping his arms around him and humming happily. “You’re adorable, you know that?” he said, running a hand through Vaughn’s hair
Vaughn smiled faintly at the feeling of Kaz’s fingers in his hair. “No..” he mumbled softly, kissing softly at Kaz’s jaw line.
“Well you know it now,” Kaz said, tilting his head a little so it was easier for Vaughn to get to his jaw. He kept running his fingers through Vaughn’s hair, enjoying the reaction he seemed to be getting. He loved making Vaughn happy, and wanted to make him feel better after crying
Vaughn smiled a bit more at that, lips moving up to peck the corner of Kaz’s mouth. His eyes stung a bit from crying before, and he was sure the skin under them looked reddened. He didn’t cry too often, but when he did, he cried hard. He tended to hold his sadness in and try to let it out when hurting people. It wasn’t a good coping skill.
Kaz started humming softly again, leaning up to press his lips to Vaughn's softly. His free hand began to rub slow, soothing circles on Vaughn's back while the other brushed his hair out of his face
Vaughn smiled into the kiss, moving his lips along with Kaz’s slowly. His hands squeezed and rubbed softly at Kaz’s hips as they kissed.
Kaz chuckled, breaking away for a moment. "Can't get enough of me?" he joked, moving to kiss along Vaughn's neck while he hummed softly
Vaughn bit his tongue to a moment to stay quiet, shifting a bit on the couch. “I don’t think I could ever get enough,” he responded, letting out a breath that he hadn’t realized he was holding.
Kaz's heart felt like it skipped a few beats at Vaughn's words. A different sort of happiness washed over him, one more from relief than anything. "You don't know how happy that makes me," he said quietly, deciding he should at least try to tell Vaughn how the other man made him feel. He kept humming quietly, moving to press more kisses to Vaughn's jaw
“Oh really? Why does that make you so happy?” Vaughn murmured softly, tilting his head the slightest bit to allow Kaz more access. It was just a simple little touch, but it still sent jolts through his nerves every time Kaz’s lips brushed his skin.
"Not quite sure yet. But I know it has something to do with the warm feeling in my chest when I'm near you," he said, pressing a kiss to Vaughn's neck, "and the way you make me feel wanted," he said, moving back to Vaughn's jaw, "and how I know you won't hurt me," he said, moving to a spot right below Vaughn's ear
Vaughn shuddered when Kaz kissed below his ear, giving a noise of impatience from the back of his throat. He smiled a bit, but his thoughts were different. He has snapped before, during his panic attacks or night terrors, and hurt people he didn’t mean to. What if he accidentally hit Kaz? Or worse? “That sounds perfect.”
