Our story begins in a land infected with plague. Some seem to be naturally immune to it. In the early days of the plague, these people were burned at the stake under the suspicion of being witches. Years after that, the new king, who was also immune, decreed that these people be researched on and a cure found. A grand prize was also to be awarded to the first one who developed the cure. Years after his decree, and the cure still hasn't been found. The kings was losing hope as his queen was about to have their third child and she was growing sicker by the day. He sent out messengers to see the best of the best and he came back with four names, or at least four descriptions. A young lady who comes from the woods and manages to charm the market vendors I to giving her food and supplies at no cost, an apprentice who has been apprenticing in something new each month, a young artist who is seen a young god for surviving a fall off a cliff, and a skilled thief, who manages to charm his way out of trouble. The king send out knights to retrieve this four but they come back empty handed. So he tries something else. Tying notes to the feet of Ravens, he sends them to find the four. The ravens have just found you.

'Under the royal summons of the king, you are nearby summoned to the Palace for a chance for fame and fortune. You along with three others are to go on a quest and find the ancient cave of Akharawti and find the wise man living there to ask for the cure. Do you accept?'

(This is an individual choice. When that happens, all four of you will be able to make a choice. Each of your choices make a difference. In group choices, you may agree on one as a group, or have one person choose for the rest)

Lady Elspeth carefully reads over the letter, tracing the inky script with her fingertips. It could be a trick, designed to land her back in the clutches of her captors, but it could also be a chance to free herself from the clawing terror that taints her heart. She sighs and rubs her hand across her face, the weight of exhaustion resting heavy on her shoulders. “I don’t have a choice,” she murmurs, and climbs to her feet. Tugging a quill and a scrap of parchment from her bags, she writes:

‘The Palace may expect one Lady Elspeth Beaumont to arrive shortly.’

She ties the message to the bird’s talon and watches as it soars away on powerful wings.

Obviously, Rowan is going to accept. He's read and reread the letter at least 10 times before coming to this conclusion, but once he's reached it, it is, indeed, quite obvious.
Rowan doesn't own any stationary, and really isn't keen on obtaining it, and so he simply scrawls the words "of course" on the back of the letter, calls the bird over, and sends it off on its merry way.

Jack glances absentmindedly at the raven as it comes in. He’s currently painting a fairly decent portrait of his cat, Aspen. Aspen tries to get at the raven, which is when Jack notices the letter in its talons. “Aspen, stop it!” he calls, grabbing the calico around her midriff as the raven squawks and begins to take flight. “No, no, no! Shit!”

He sets Aspen down on the floor as the raven begins to fly out his window. “Stay put!” he instructs quickly, running out the door to see the raven, which has stalled its flight now that the cat isn’t batting at it. He hurries over to it, but the raven is just out of reach, so he digs in his pocket for something shiny. He holds out a ring that he made last month, which gleams in the sunlight. The raven just looks at it. Maybe it’s crows who love shiny things…

By some miracle, the raven flies into his hand and Jack unties the sting holding the note. He reads it, but quickly realizes that he left his quill and ink inside. After muttering a string of curses, Jack decides to just ask his neighbor for a quill. Thankfully, she lets him use one to quickly scrawl the words, ’I accept -Jack Kinsley’ on the back of the letter. Not exactly eloquent, but at least the king knows that he is coming. He sends off the bird and goes to prepare.

Three ravens make their way back to the palace. Screeching to each other, one could only guess what they were talking about. The king received the birds and smiled happily as the notes brought good news. He awaited the response of the fourth as he wrote a new note to the three who accepted.

'Thank you for you acceptance. I will have a group if guards meet you in the market place by the bakery. They will be dressed as commoners but will recognise you so long as you have a ravens feather on display in your hair. Please bring minimal supplies as you will recieve the rest at the palace.'

Lady Elspeth was waiting anxiously when the second letter arrived, and she quickly unrolled the note to get to its contents. She looked up at the raven and winced. “Sorry, friend.” The bird squawked as she pulled a shiny feather from its tail, hopping away indignantly. Lady Elspeth braided her hair with nimble fingers and tucked the feather into the plait, the inky black standing out against her bright blonde hair. Climbing to her feet and tightening the strap of her bag, the lady steeled her nerves. It was time to head into town.

Jack read the new note (luckily Aspen was now asleep). He frowned and plucked a feather from the bird as quickly as he could, wincing when the bird squawked indignantly. “Sorry,” he mumbled, sticking the feather in his hair. He glanced in his mirror. It was almost hidden in his mess of chocolate brown curls, but could be seen if looked at from his right side. He walked into town with his pack on his shoulder, looking around for the guards.
