"Grace first," Galen murmured. They were required to pray to Allah before every meal, and while no one was watching them at the moment, Galen felt it fitting. It gave them a bit of hope.

"For Augusta's health, for more deer tomorow, for our basic needs to be met, for good luck, for many more years of friendship, we thank you for bringing Ella into our lives, we thank you for the food in front of us…" "Amen." Finishing Grace, everyone dug in, even though there wasn't much to dig into.
"So, Ella, what brings you here?"
(Sorry, I had things to do, places to be.)
They pray to Allah? Ella thought as she sat down. Hm, that's different for me…
"So, Ella, what brings you here?" Galen asked her, shaking her from her thoughts.
"Oh, I just wanted to get out of my parents' house," she said, laughing gently. "Too crowded. You see, I have five brothers and four sisters, all younger than I am, so it can get pretty loud."

It was weird, and Nada couldn't stand the silence anymore, so she broke it with, "Augusta? Can you tell us a story? The one about the leevegrass?"
"Ooh! I love that one!" Galen settled down into his chair and sighed softly.
Augusta didn't say anything and Nada's hopes fell beyond the lowest floor of the apartment. Augusta didn't talk much, so why did Nada expect her to tell a story? "Let's go to sleep." Nada started helping her up the stairs and into her bed. "Goodnight." She whispered.
(hello?)
