(do we know eachother?)
(our characters?)
(sure! they could be like friends or something
start?)
Nada fingered her skirt, nervous. She and Galen had only caught three deer today, two less than yesterday.
Galen looked over at his friend, noting silently her nervous composure. "We did great today. Come on, let's take this back to (Augusta?) and make dinner."
"What if it isn't enough? The deer are disappearing everyday, I swear. Yesterday, that pond was full to the brim with deer. Now, there were three." Nada needed to find another meat supply somewhere. Like she was taught in health, Protein, protein, protein!
(i have to go)
(ok)
"Well, we can't control that," Galen muttered, stomach growling. He clambered into the cab of the Ford truck and started the engine, watching the touchscreen display turn on in a colourful display of blue and white. "Besides, the Warriors are raiding (Atlanta) tonight. They'll bring back food, I'm sure."
(i'm back)
Galen was right. Nada was overthinking this, like she overthought every situation she was faced with. Laying the deer in the trunk, Nada put her feet up on the dashboard, like the characters in the stories Augusta told her, hoping it would relax her, but changed her mind. It was just uncomfortable. And she was wearing a skirt.
Turning to face his friend, Galen smiled softly. "Hey. I promise, everything will be okay. Now get your dirty feet off my dashboard."
Nada just smiled and looked out the window. The drive was short, but fun. The road was super bumpy, and the view amazed her every time, no matter how many times she saw it. It wasn't much, just a few trees and a lot of grass. But it wasn't the view. It was the knowledge of what they held.
The two pulled into the city's walls in a silent appreciation, Galen steering the truck to the rations department and stepping out of the cab to unload the meat. Maybe they'd pay well for the quality of the meat, and not punish for the quantity.
Getting out of the car, Nada broke out of her daydreams and helped Galen with the deers. She gave him a worried look.
Galen gave her an I'll take the blame look and approached the stockkeeper apprehensively. "We have 3 prime deer, freshly killed." (night)
(goodnight)
The dissaproval on the stockkeeper's face was clear. Nevertheless, he paid us for the deer, a little less than usual. It would be a small dinner tonight. Nada grabbed Galen's arm and pulled him towards the vegetable markets. Carrots were the cheapest and broth was a little more, so they could have soup for dinner tonight. Two cans would be enough to give Augusta a little extra. Though she tried to hide it, everyone knew she was getting sicker, day after day.
