(OKAY I'M BACK)
Charlotte shook her head, memories rising from the depths of her mind. "All he mentioned in the letter is the place and time I have to be there by. But he's proud– so he probably just wants vengeance, and will have found another, smarter cover up reason for calling me over to hide how petty he is," she guessed bitterly, sitting on the kitchen table and crossing her arms.

(heya fam! XD How's it going?)
Rick nodded. "I see. In that case, there's not much plannin' we can do. But we'll have to be real careful not to get lured into some trap once we get there. Something like that seems likely, based on what you're sayin'. Where does he want you to be?"
@amber_is_in_a_loop
(oooooooooooooooooof. How about you?)
Charlotte sighed heavily. "The old base where the experiments took place. They're on the outskirts of the first civil war's battle ground."
@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group
(whufffffff. Been busy, got a new dog, had a few days where I questioned the purpose of my life and all my achievements–but overall not bad. Offers cookies and milk)
"Alright." Rick squinted at the ceiling thoughtfully. "'Fraid I never paid attention to my history lessons….is that around here, or further west somewhere?"
@amber_is_in_a_loop
(takes both with and then equally splits it just the average tuesday then XD)
Charlotte squinted judgmentally. "Way further west. Towards the old city centre."
@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group
(lol yup XD shares happily)
"Hm. Okay. And when are you supposed to get there?"
@amber_is_in_a_loop
"A week." She handed him the letter for him to read over. "We'll take whatever road you took."
@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group
He accepted it and skimmed it over, recognizing Axel's handwriting from the contract of temporary employment he'd written up. "In that case, I guess we'd better not dawdle around too much, huh? What all do you need to get ready? I've got pretty much everything I need for myself."
@amber_is_in_a_loop
"Let me pack a bag quickly. Shouldn't take long, maybe ten minutes."
She headed up the stairs to her room, sorting through everything she'd need in her mind. Only the basics.

Rick finished lacing up his boots while he was waiting for her, then took out his notebook and removed a map from between the pages, spreading it out on the table. He could easily find his way to where they needed to go, but he was unused to traveling with others and wasn't sure how that would affect their travel time. They would have to go on foot most of the way, but there was a chance they could hitch a ride with a trading caravan at a certain point–provided there was one in the area. Rick decided not to make too many plans just yet, instead leaving most of their journey to chance and playing it by ear the way he usually did.

After stuffing the necessary things into a small canvas duffel bag, Charlotte deemed herself ready. Just before leaving, though, she grabbed a thin photo album and stuffed it into the top of the bag, where it stuck out just enough to be seen.
She returned downstairs to see Rick going over a map. He better know what he's doing. She silently set her duffel down and went into the pantry to get some food for the trip.

Rick glanced up when she came down and his eyes fell on her bag. He could see something sticking out–it looked like a book of some kind–but he couldn't really tell, and it was against his nature to snoop. He folded up his map and put it back, glancing outside to check the weather. To his relief, it looked like a much nicer day today.

Charlotte returned with a small plastic bag of food. "What's the plan then?" she asked with an indicative nod to the map, tying the food bag to her duffel.

"We'll try to keep our route as high and dry as possible," Rick replied. "In my experience, terrain that's good for farming tends to hold slightly friendlier folks, so we'll avoid marshy or heavily wooded areas. There's a pretty decent road we can take half of the way, but then we'll have to cut off into trackless prairie for a while. At that point the main thing we'll have to worry about is runnin' into a Deorn, but that wouldn't be the end of the world. I've tangoed with them before." He shrugged. "That's all I know at the moment. Planning's not really my favorite activity, unfortunately."

Charlotte pursed her lips, but nodded. "Alright. Are we good to go?"
@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group
"Yes ma'am." Rick stood up, shouldering his backpack and walking over to get the door for her. "Let's head on out."
@amber_is_in_a_loop
Charlotte nodded, shouldering her own bag and slipping on her shoes. With a last glance around the house, she guessed she wouldn't be back for while.
"Let's do it."
