Well, it's technically got some fantasy elements, but we can change that pretty easily if we want. Basically humans discovered the existence of magical creatures at about the same time that a civil war was brewing in North America. There were like five/six armies going at it during the war's peak, and some of them used magical creatures as soldiers (against their will, btw). The war was so bad that it destroyed the government, the economy, and most major cities. Nowadays people are just trying to get by however they can. The original armies kind of disintegrated after the war, but I developed a ton of sub-cultures that sprang up in various areas of the country. As for the rest of the world, it pretty much turned its back on the states, except for Canada which accepted a bunch of refugees and helped negotiate a treaty. Climate change affects everywhere in different ways, tyrannical overseas governments have risen unhindered to power, magical creatures hate humanity's guts, and humanity itself is slowly going extinct. That's the five minute rundown, anyway. My story covers the time from the start of the war all the way to a couple centuries after, so if we chose this world we;f have to pick a basic time period in there somewhere ^^;

See you later! For when you get back~
I don't mind the fantasy at all! Would you prefer to work out a plot or just get a basic idea and build off of it as we go? Personally I think it's interesting to go for the latter cause we've got more freedom to come up with some weird ideas that could be thrown into the mix.

That works! I'm kinda new to the romance scene so I guess it's up to you if we want include that or not (for the record, I haven't quite decided on my character yet, but my main choice rn is a gay dude in case that matters). I'll fill this out in a mo then! ^^

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Works for me! I'm gonna drop my guy here and disappear again for a bit, sorry ^^;
Name: Rick Longpaw
Age: like 30-ish
Gender: Male
Sexuality (if romance is part of the story): Pan
Looks: BIG, very muscular, kind of a dorito Captain America body type. Tanned skin, short light brown hair, slight beard, bright blue eyes, scar below his left eye, and geometric black tattoos that cover his arms, neck, and torso.
Outfit/style: Military-style clothes but with less gear, carries lots of guns.
Personality: Unendingly cheerful, friendly, chatty, tough and uncomplaining, likes to tell jokes and have a good time, polite, rarely angry or grumpy, seems simple-minded but is actually pretty smart.
Fears: Being alone for long, losing the ones he loves, flying in an airplane.
Strengths: Excellent fighter and good with many weapons, gets along with almost anyone, is just generally strong, horse riding, playing the harmonica, wilderness survival, working in a team.
Weaknesses: Doesn't always know when to be serious, insensitive, somewhat uneducated, has issues with commitment, can't sit still for long, is a little too fond of violence (even though he's a basically nice guy).
Pet peeves (sort of specific but it's fun to mess with these ^^): Complainers, weaklings, snowy weather, very dry weather, too much luxury, too much suspense.
Background/Family: He comes from a huge family of mercenaries in the southern part of the country, but is currently estranged from them for reasons he doesn't like to talk about.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

So this took a while, my bad
I'm actually pulling her out of the same story Nathan was in

Name: Charlotte Seyrès
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Demisexual
Looks: under-developed body (due to lack of food when she was growing up) meaning little to no chest development or curves, 5'7, 115 lbs. Wide shoulders on a thin almost frail frame. Despite being thin she's got some muscle that almost hides the fact she's underweight. Asian-american, pale, quite a hollow overall look to her face. Dark brown eyes, light brown straight hair down to around her shoulders.
Outfit/style: very simple dark colours, practicality over style. Usually something along the lines of black leggings, grey tank top, beige/brown jacket and black lace up boots.
Personality: usually cool and collected, caring and sweet if needed but mostly stays serious, straight-forward, neutrally protective of most people, very intelligent and bold, confident in her decisions, incredibly stubborn and independent, quite easy to hurt her feelings but she'll try to hide it even though she's terrible at any type of lying, can get cold/cruel as a defence mechanism,
Fears: failing people, being betrayed, extremely claustrophobic
Strengths: very strong fighter though mostly hand to hand, her main advantage being that she's very fast and can usually see a move coming and block it - also good with a gun. Extremely high tolerance to tiredness, pain, hunger and thirst. Fluent in French, Spanish and English, well-educated. Cooks well, sculpts well.
Weaknesses: convinced she needs no one's help, emotionally hardened and has got major trust issues
Pet peeves: hypocrites, idiots, liars, people who are too proud or can't accept their mistake, self-centered people
Background/Family: had a sister who worked for government during the war in helping capture animals - they stopped talking to each other when Charlotte found out but Charlotte still defended her sister to her parents and tried to help her after the war. Sister refused, and fled. Her father died in the war, her mother tried going after her sister and was shot (maybe by sister, Charlotte doesn't know)
Idk if the backstory works with how the war went down correct me if I'm wrong?

@amber_is_in_a_loop

and some of them used magical creatures as soldiers (against their will, btw).

I was thinking capturing as in whatever was done to magical creatures to make them fight

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Ah right. Yep, that works. Which reminds me, I should probably give you a quick rundown of the magical creatures in this world. I'll try to keep it short, but this kind of thing always ends up longer than I planned lol, please don't kill me ^^; There are three kinds (you might recognize them under different names from our previous rp):
Hapbringers: The "good" ones. They resemble humans with giant wings and can control a type of energy called Positivity. They can heal, see auras, use telepathy, and a couple others things. Traditionally their entire species is considered to be part of one generation (E.g. they're all brothers and sisters even if they're wildly different ages). Hapbringer/human hybrids are relatively common but their magic is a recessive trait and doesn't get passed down very far.
Intunera: The "evil" ones. They're immortal spirits made of a type of magic called Negativity. (You might guess that Positivity and Negativity are like oil and water.) Intunera have many powers and no two individuals are quite the same, but basically they can teleport, use mind-control, come back from being killed, and control Negativity itself as a slow-burn close-quarters weapon. Their diets consist of: Human souls, and the substances that literally nothing on Earth can digest: radioactive toxins, certain metals, raw chemicals, etc. While they have an overwhelming tendency to love violence and mayhem, some Intunera have been known to be kind and compassionate friends. Intunera cannot have children even with their own kind, so hybrids are not a thing.
Deorns: Considered by humans to be evil, but they're really not. They're just highly aggressive and territorial, and have been known to eat humans when prey is scarce. These are the magical creatures humans forced to fight in their war, which resulted in the war being called the Deornian War. Also they're the most common of the three species. While it's very hard to describe Deorns since each individual is unique, they're essentially animal shape-shifters with the ability to control either ice or fire (but never both). Each Deorn has 1 to 3 animal forms as well as a human form. They are solitary creatures and live with their immediate family in large territories which they defend viciously from all intruders. They hate humans, humans hate them. However, after the war, Deorn/human hybrids became very common (this isn't a good thing: the DNA of the two species is not terribly compatible and birth defects in hybrids are pretty much a fact of life). Deorns are smarter than animals but their logic and habits remain steadfastly non-human in nature. To humans, they're dumb and foolishly stubborn. To Deorns, they're strong-willed and don't waste time on impractical things. Their magical ability is called Air-Snapping, and for fire Deorns it means fire. For ice Deorns, it can mean anything from ice and frost to full-blown weather control. shrug I could go on and on about Deorns, they're my fave species ATM, but I guess further details can be revealed through the course of the rp.
Oh oh! And a quick note about the magic itself: Humans can't learn magic, and must have a recent magical ancestor to be able to practice any. All the types of magic stem from five 'gods/goddesses' that rule over Earth. For the most part I'll try to keep them out of this story, but one of them, called the Dust, is very meddlesome and will probably pop in at least once to cause mischief. XD
