(Okay. I think I'm ready to come back now, thanks for your patience with me. How are you doing? I'll say it again, it makes me really happy to hear from you after almost a year. :) You said you were interested in continuing this rp, is that still true? I definitely am if you are.)

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(Hey, welcome back :) I'm happy you're feeling better! I'm doing pretty good. Can I ask how you're doing? And yeah it's really nice to be here again, and I am interested!)

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

(Glad you're doing well! I'm…..basically okay. I feel good enough that I want to get back to my normal routine, and this is part of that ^^)
(I'm pretty sure I remember where we were in the rp, but I might have to refresh my memory a bit. I think we were about to get to the exciting break-in lol)

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(Alright that's good! Little by little, day by day <3)
(And yeahhh same it's been a hot minute. I believe that they were camping on a hill on the other side of which is Axel's base, and that as you said they were planning on doing the break-in the next day. I might just have to reread what the purpose of the mission was ^^')

(Me too ahaha. As I recall, essentially they wanted to rescue the other kid(s) and deal with Axel once and for all if they could. I think Jessie and Rick were on one team while Slash and Charlotte were going to be on another–that way each team had someone who knew the kids and Axel by sight. And they were going to avoid excess violence, but Charlotte didn't sound optimistic about it lol. That's all I remember though.)

Rick smiled as well and settled down on the other side of the fire. In just a few minutes he drifted off to sleep.

(okay so, let's get into it so we can figure out where we were going with this then?)
Charlotte settled into a comfortable position, back against a tree trunk, Jessie's head resting in her lap. She laid a hand on the girl's head, affection rushing through her.
Affection that only grew when she looked up to see Rick had already fallen asleep, as had Slash. She felt deeply comfortable with this group, somehow, and it was a feeling she was relishing after so many years alone.
Tomorrow, they'd reunite what was left of their family. After tomorrow, none of them would be alone ever again.

(Yessss xDD Let's do this)
The night passed uneventfully. Eventually even the nocturnal insects fell silent, leaving nothing to break the silence but the gentle rustling of the wind through the tall grass. The moon sank towards the horizon, framed by countless stars. As it went, the sky in the opposite direction began to ever-so-slowly get lighter, morphing from black to grey to blue-grey. The first sound of the dawn was a meadowlark, calling out with unexpected loudness in a sweet, clear voice. The noise made Slash's ears twitch, and he sleepily opened one eye, lifting his head to taste the air and check for danger. When nothing moved, he got up, shook himself, and slunk off to hunt for breakfast. With any luck, he'd be back before the sun fully rose.

Charlotte woke not long after. She immediately noticed Slash was gone.
She gently slid a hand under Jessie's head and lifted it slightly, getting to her feet slowly and setting her daughter back down in the grass. Although slightly worried about the young Deorn, she figured he'd gone off to hunt and, not wanting to leave Rick and Jessie alone while they slept, she stayed near the clearing as she went off to find fresh kindling.
She hoped they'd wake soon enough, so that the group could leave before the sun rose in order to keep as much cover as they could.

Rick half-noticed when the others started to stir, but the main thing that woke him up was the noisy birds. He sat up and stretched, brushing drops of dew off his clothes and collecting his thoughts. He could see Charlotte not far away, and once he was reassured that she was just gathering wood, he busied himself collecting his gear. He wanted to be extra careful about taking stock and preparing his weapons today, and he silently ran through their plan one last time as he did so. If Jessie didn't wake up soon, he'd probably nudge her and tell her to eat something before they headed out.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Charlotte headed back for the camp soon after. Rick was awake, now, and upon seeing Jessie was still asleep, Charlotte greeted him louder than usual in hopes that it would wake Jessie.
As Charlotte knelt to tend to the heap of ash that had been burning the night before, Jessie did start to stir, turning onto her back and muttering a slightly grumpy hello to Charlotte and Rick.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Rick gave Charlotte a smile. "Mornin'," he replied, keeping his voice somewhat quiet. "And mornin' to you too, Jessie." Standing, he walked the short distance to the nearby creek and filled his canteen. "Man, that sure was a quiet night. Haven't slept that good in days. How about you two?"

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Jessie sighed and sat up. "I slept pretty good, thank you." She scooted closer to the heat of the flames Charlotte had managed to ignite.
"Also pretty good," Charlotte said into the fire. She fell back onto her hands and looked up at the sky with a sigh. It was all happening. At least Jessie looked calm.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

(I gotta work today but I'll be around a little bit)
Rick joined them by the fire, stirring up the pot of leftover stew from last night. "Let's eat a little somethin' and pack up. Hopefully Slash gets back soon so we can move out…..guess I shoulda told him to stay in camp this mornin'."
But luckily, Slash returned early, perhaps drawn by the sound of their voices or the smell of food. He shifted into human form as he came, looking bright-eyed and alert with grass seeds stuck in his hair and clothes. "Morning. I just went past the big place with Axel in it, and it looks quiet. Are we ready yet?"

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Charlotte looked up as Slash walked back into the clearing. "Quiet as in, deserted?"
The mention of Axel and their plan seemed to have woken Jessie up, and she was now wide-eyed and busying herself with putting away what they'd unpacked and setting out bowls for everyone.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Nuh-uh," Slash replied. "There's people around. They're just not making much noise or walking outside the big building." He sat down next to Jessie and accepted a bowl, eyeing the food hungrily. "I guess they're only just waking up, like us."
Rick nodded. "Let's eat quick so we can get the jump on 'em if possible, yeah?"

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(sorry it's unfortunately 2am and I have to wake up tomorrow so I gtg! see you tomorrow, hope you had an okay day at work)
Jessie and Charlotte both nodded in agreement. Charlotte took the bowl from Jessie and the latter handed Rick his bowl of food. Both Jessie and Charlotte went to eating quickly as Rick had suggested, lost in their respective thoughts. Though Charlotte had had years to reconcile her relationship with Axel in her mind, Jessie hadn't thought about him in a long time.
What she remembered brought back very mixed feelings, but if he had her siblings then there was nothing redeemable in him, not to her. They'd have to finish things once and for all, now or never.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

(No worries lol, I only just got around to replying myself ^^; And yes I did have a good day :) )
Slash finished his meal in record time and paced about restlessly until Rick told him to watch the surroundings for danger while they packed up. Rick himself was fully absorbed in his old pre-battle routine—triple-checking his gear, mentally running through the plan one more time, and practically radiating cheerful energy at his companions. He'd been through too many fights to see much point in being tense or serious. Although it didn't seem too likely this time, he knew that any fight could be his last, and he hated the thought of going out with a frown.
"I gotta say I'm lookin' forward to seein' you in action, missy," he remarked to Jessie amiably. "I've heard a lot about your skills now, but ain't gotten to witness 'em yet. You got weapons, or d'you need to borrow some? I got extra knives or guns if you like."

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Jessie looked up with a jump, having been pulled from her thoughts rather suddenly. "Some knives, maybe, thank you. My hands aren't really stable enough for guns," she admitted.
Charlotte took her and the girl's bowls to clean and started packing up. She hadn't fought anyone in so long, and yet to her it was like riding a bike– you never did quite forget how to do it. It had long ago become muscle memory. She wrapped up Jessie's things and folded Slash's sweater neatly, placing it on one of the bags rather than the ground. She pulled out two guns and a few knives, tucking them away into her boots and belt as she always did.
"I think we're all set." She straightened up and turned to face Jessie and Rick. "Yeah?"

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Yep." Rick gave her a nod, having donated his two best combat knives to Jessie and packed away the rest of his things. He realized he felt oddly responsible for the two younger members of their group, although he'd always been good with his sibling's children so it wasn't much of a surprise. As he looked over their heads at Charlotte, he hesitated, remembering something. "Actually, I guess there is one more thing. Can I talk to you for a second, Charlotte? I need to ask you a favor."

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Charlotte froze for a second. She looked over at Jessie, who was tucking the knives away neatly the way she'd been taught. She was fine, as was Slash.
She looked back to Rick and, consciously relaxing her body, she smiled at him and nodded towards a little opening in the tree line around them.
