Asa gave a toot in reply, making her way to Ashera's side. She nudged her head, smiling.
Ashera giggled happily and smiled at seeing Asa acting happy again. Seeing her sad earlier had almost hurt. ”Now, what kind of toys do you like best?”
Asa thought for a moment. Then, she flew over, using one of her tiny, dull claws to point at a plush doll.
Ashera raised a brow slightly but smiled as she picked up the doll Asa pointed to. ”Any others? We shouldn't buy too many but we’ll need some for you to chase around so you don't get bored.” she suggested. ”Maybe something for us to play with together too?”
Asa looked around. She had never really been given more than one or two toys before, so she didn't know what to pick. She turned to Ashera for help.
Ashera looked at Asa as she thought about what other toys she might like. She really wasn't sure though. Some of the other shoppers got strong ropes or tennis balls or some kind of squeaky toy for their pets… But Asa wasn't just a pet to her. ”Do any of those look good to you?” she asked cautiously.
Asa looked around. If anything, what she would really want would be a board game; something she could use to show Ashera that she did have higher thinking. Instead, she sniffed around, looking at the toys. She came upon one she would like; it was a stimulation toy. A small prize, like a treat, would be put in the center, and Asa would have to find a way to shift all of the pieces in order to reach it. She nodded to it, nudging it slightly. Then, just so they would have something to do together, she flew over and grabbed a frisbee; this one was capable of flying very long distances, which would work well for Asa.
Ashera smiled brightly at Asa’s choices. ”I should have known you’d like something like this. You’ll probably have it solved in a minute.” she encouraged, knowing how smart the young Dragon already seemed.
Asa beamed, rubbing her head against Ashera with a coo. She had no idea.
Ashera giggled at the sweet gesture, petting between Asa’s wings in return. She hums as an idea comes to her. ”I’ll still get you this one but I think a magic puzzle might be more fun for you.” she smiles.
Asa's back arched into Ashera's rubbings, Asa giving out a purr. She looked up at her, eyes sparkling with the promise of a challenge.
Ashera smiled a little mischievously, seeing Asa’s approval. ”I thought so. Come on. Those are towards the back of the store.” she told her. Another ”power play” by humans to show they’re in charge.
Asa stayed by Ashera's side. Humans. Always thinking they were better than everyone else. Thinking they knew what was right and what was not. She sighed internally, rubbing her head against Ashera again.
Ashera smiled at Asa as they walked through the store. She was a bit hurt, like everyone else, by the humans’ superiority complex despite the fact that they were one of the most short-lived species. But she usually didn't let it affect her life.
The magical toys and puzzles looked very similar to the others though many of the materials where more nature-based or had a charm drawn on them.
(I swear I'm not ignoring this- just have a bit of writer's block, so responses might not be super detail, sorry)
With one last bump with her head, Asa sniffed around, trying to find a puzzle that interested her.
(Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Don't worry too much about it, I think I have a bit of writer's block too.)
Ashera watched Asa as she searched for a magical puzzle. I wish we could talk. You're so smart and have no trouble conveying what you want but… I would love to know what you're thinking.
Finally, Asa nudged a puzzle forward. It was deceptively simple-looking, but in reality, it was quite difficult to solve. She chirped once.
Ashera smiled at Asa’s choice and petted the young Dragon’s head before picking up the toy. ”Let’s see… Is there anything else here that we need to get for you, sweetheart?” she asked, though she honestly doubted that there was. If she was right all they needed to get now was some food for Asa.
Asa shook her head, setting down and rubbing against Ashera's leg. She was ready to go.
Ashera giggled. ”Alright, girl. Let's pay for this and we can go home.” she smiled at her sweet friend.
Asa nodded, running around Ashera. Going home sounded good.
Ashera started walking towards the registers, also eager to get home. ”Let me know if you see anything else that you may need.” she encouraged.
Asa walked next to Ashera. There wasn't anything she could think of. Her talons clacked happily on the floor, and she smiled.
They finally reached the checkout counter and Ashera placed their purchase in front of the human cashier.
The human looked Ashera and Asa over once, eyes hard. They started to check the things out, obviously not comfortable.
